The foremost purpose of a speech enhancement system is to bring out intelligent speech among the mixture of noise, background audio, and the speaker. This can be utilized in intelligent speech transmission, hearing aids, speaker identification, video conferencing, etc. Over the years, many speech enhancement methods have been implemented to process the noisy background and enhance the quality of the speech signal. With the introduction of machine learning, deep learning, and neural networks, this enhancement of speech has become more fruitful. However, the traditional methods like spectral subtraction, wiener filtering, etc., faced the musical noise issue, especially while working on a low SNR signal. While many DNN-based methods are being introduced, denoising and dereverberation are not collectively considered that often. This article provides an overview of the research on speech enhancement techniques in the last several years. The various challenges and future research ideas are also covered, considering the present methods of speech enhancement. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

India's current mushroom production rate is approximately 1500 tons, while the daily demand for mushrooms is around 75 to 100 tons. Even though new technologies are being developed, the need is not satisfied due to various illnesses afflicting mushroom farms. Fungal diseases such as dry, wet, and cobweb diseases are caused by water stagnation in mushrooms. Maintaining 80-95 percent RH for an extended period in a specific bag limits productivity and harvest quality by reducing cropping surface or damaging mycelium. To address this, pesticides that lower the nutritional value of mushrooms are utilized. Rather than utilizing a water-chemical spraying approach, the problem was solved by using a modified ultrasonic humidifier, which distributes humidity linearly, assuring uniform mist distribution throughout the mushroom sacks and stable RH. Despite the high cost in India, which makes it unaffordable due to the market's high-priced humidifiers, a designed low-cost ultrasonic humidifier is used based on the mechanical principles that emphasize aspects of chemical usage prevention, production rate optimization, and cost-efficiency in the mushroom sector via the deployment of a solution which could have neutralized fungal development and consolidated the fungal infection. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) systems transfer electricity without a wired connection from a source to a charge. The advantages of wired compared with cable systems such as no exposed wires, ease of loading, and fearless power transmission into adverse environmental conditions make the WPTs appeal to many industrial applications. Some companies have paid attention to the adoption of WPTs for charging the onboard batteries of electrical vehicles (EV), and efforts are made to develop and improve the various topologies associated with these systems. WPT is obtained by the cost-effective induction of two spins known as the transmitter and the receiver. The transmitter bobbins are entered into the road in EV charging applications, and receiver bumps are placed in the vehicle. Resonant type inductive WPT is common for medium-high power transmission applications such as EV charging because its effectiveness is increased. The Wireless Power Transfer emerged as the fastest-growing technology for power transmission without cables. This field is getting new proposals and advancements in technology, making this more reliable and efficient. Hence, this becomes a field for the newly manufactured electric vehicles that rely only on wireless charging. Here, the wireless power transfer takes place with the help of 'Inductive & Magnetic Coupling'. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

Modern Remote Sensing (RS) technologies have emerged and picked up a substantial momentum as a valuable source of data for environmental, economic, and social applications over the past few years. RS has given birth to few other beneficial processes like image fusion that extracts & registers relevant important knowledge from satellite images to make them more useful before subjecting to future applications. Image Fusion is typically performed with three broader techniques: Pixel level, Feature Level and Decision Level. With the help of proper image fusion methods, the concerned information is extracted from various images, which can then be utilized for everyday applications, ranging from weather forecasts to reports on natural disasters or climate change. This study talks about a practice of applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the great extent considering its recent advancement in the domain of image processing. In a nutshell, this paper explores and analyses the key remote sensing data fusion techniques based on Machine Learning and Deep Learning with respect to multi-satellite images and single satellite multi-spectral band images and reviews the theory, principles, applications, constraints, and benefits of each technique with a goal of discussing a potential future direction of this study. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

FFT processor used for high-speed signal processing applications, such that to meet the required high-speed applications, FFT processor uses pipeline and parallel processing algorithms to provide such high-speed applications, pipelining techniques such as delay feedback and delay commutation technique are used, for this radix -2k algorithm based FFT processor to provide parallel path signal processing implemented pipeline architectures are used. For high throughput radix-22 radix-23 radix-24 algorithms are used. They reduce both the number of adders and the number of *** processor occupies an area of 3.6mm2 and operating supply voltage of 0.4V-1V, and at a frequency of 600MHz. By taking advantage of Radix-4 algorithm techniques, the processor is implemented with four parallel path signal processing without overhead of hardware compared to the two-path processor. The implemented processor takes less power, approximately 14%, compared to the two-path FFT processor, and the area reduces by 20% using Radix-22 algorithm techniques. Simulation results are observed using Xilinx ISE 14.7 Design Suite using Verilog-HDL coding. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

The Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) is the innovative method for low Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in multicarrier modulations (MCM). The Filter Bank Multi-carrier (FBMC) method proves a promising technique in advanced wireless communication. The addition of the cyclic prefix reduces the interferences that cause spectral efficiency degradation. Also, computational complexity is the major problem in MCM. It is anticipated to use a Genetic Algorithm (GA) and improve DFT spread in a layered partial transmit sequence (GA-LPTS). The projected system endures splitting each sub-block, renovating the conventional PTS's one-layer structure into a dual-layer phase rotation factors search arrangement, and introducing a consequence-related threshold point. The GA then obtains the suboptimal phase factor vectors before PAPR reduction processing. The DFT spread IGA-LPTS scheme successfully condenses the FBMC/OQAM signal's PAPR. The anticipated results are compared to those obtained using the penalty concave-convex procedure (penalty-CCCP) and the carrier frequency offset (CFO) algorithm. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

In the last few decades, many urban areas in India have suffered from acute air pollution, making air quality an important area of research. Currently, air pollution is increasing daily at an alarming rate due to various reasons, including industrial growth and automobile and chemical industries. This work aims to monitor air pollution and guide users through routes based on the pollution density of the area, along with providing alerts about highly polluted areas. The same has been done by setting up a server and creating a mobile application. The monitoring device collects the pollution levels and stores them in the server along with the timestamp and location details. The mobile application uses the data from the server to send notifications and alerts to the user about high pollution levels. Additionally, the application has been integrated with an algorithm to calculate the least polluted route from the source to the destination as per the user's choice. The application also monitors the user's transits and generates daily, monthly and yearly graphs of the pollution intake. The pollution data consists of concentrations of various air pollutants hourly. Thus, with these features, any person can keep track of their pollution intake and make optimal decisions to reduce the same. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

This paper discusses a novel design for a convertible hybrid drive quad-copter that is manually controlled to move across inaccessible places as a drone or a 4-wheeler bot using a self-transforming mechanism, equipped with a camera whose feed is accessed and passed through image processing algorithms to inspect various industrial systems like HVAC pipes and check for defects or anomalies such as rust and cracks in the pipes with advanced deep learning algorithms at the controller side. The designed sprawl mechanism enables the bot to reach narrow places and perform inspections. The novel Power Engage Disengage mechanism is crucial in saving power by delivering it either to the wheels (drive mode) or to the propellers (drone mode), but not both at the same time, making sure power is used efficiently which guarantees a longer run time and allows more area to be covered in a single inspection run. A Convolutional Neural Network is designed to detect multiple potential defects that are precise, accurate and yield faster results. With all these features, the designed convertible hybrid drive quad-copter can break dimensional constraints and provide precise analysis of any industrial structure. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

As the world continues to grapple with COVID-19, public places are opening gradually. However, it is necessary to adhere to the guidelines released by governments across the world to prevent an increase in the number of cases. The major guidelines which have proven to be quite effective include covering one's face and nose and maintaining distance from others. To enforce these guidelines, this work proposes a model to detect and classify people into three classes;wearing mask, no mask, and incorrectly worn mask using the YOLOv5 algorithm for object detection. A novel mathematical formula for distance estimation labels people as safe or unsafe based on the distance maintained from others. This model is trained specifically for helping in the enforcement of the guidelines in the context of reopening of indoor establishments like malls, theatres, and restaurants in India, where the general population makes use of various types of face coverings like handkerchiefs, scarves, face shields in addition to surgical and handmade masks. This work also provides a comparison between Scaled-YOLOv4 and YOLOv5 in terms of their accuracy with a custom dataset. The proposed model achieved a peak accuracy of 94.67% using the YOLOv5 algorithm and an accuracy of 92% for social distance estimation. The model trained using the Scaled-YOLOv4 algorithm achieved a much lower peak accuracy of 74.51%. © 2022 The Institution of engineering and technology.

With the development with 5G the mobile connectivity in rural areas has increased. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IOT) has increased its horizon in some applications like Agriculture, Dam monitoring etc. This high computation application requires high computation capacity and low latency. A multi-hop mobile edge computation with D2D communication (MECD2D) has been proposed. The resource allocation has been performed using improved artificial bee colony optimization algorithm (IABCO). It aims at minimizing overall cost of computation by reducing energy consumption and optimizing number of idle users for computation offloading. The simulation results shows that the proposed algorithm performs better as compared to the Kuhn Munkres algorithm. The performance is improved by 2% in terms of energy consumption and 32-48% in terms of resource consumption. © The Institution of engineering & technology 2023.
