Today's industrial manufacturing challenges force manufacturers to optimize and increase the flexibility of their facilities. In practice, this requires analyzing, preparing for adaptation, and adapting brownfield manufacturingsystems. The digital twin, a digital representation of a manufacturing system, is a key enabler for efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability. Unfortunately, the analysis and preparation of brownfield systems for adaptation, as well as the creation of digital twins, are challenging and time-consuming tasks. This paper presents an approach to automatically create digital models of systems based on 3D CAD models. To this end, the CAD data, stored as a STEP file, is analyzed to extract relevant information for a subsequent graph analysis, which is used to identify components, their dependencies, and the resulting functional modules. Finally, the gained knowledge is transformed into feature models that can be used as a digital model for configuration selection to support automatic reconfiguration planning of brownfield manufacturingsystems. The developed approach is evaluated based on an industrial use case of a soft gripper system.

manufacturing companies around the world are under constant pressure to perform effectively and sustainably. Incidental processes, such as Quality Inspection (QI), are needed to achieve Zero-Defects manufacturing (ZDM). This study aimed to identify the Human Factors and Ergonomics (HF&E) in the design of advanced automation, QI systems, and ZDMthrough selected papers and empirical observations. Our presented model is built around the six main dimensions, i.e., top management, manager (project owner), designers, engineers (internal and suppliers), and operators. The commitment of top management, the openness of the manager, the design-friendly nature of the technological system, and the constant updating of knowledge by engineers are important for the success of ZDM. Researchers need to be familiar with cognitive and organisational human factors to align theory with specific cases. Operators face physical and cognitive challenges, and their environment and health must be considered for their successful contribution to the design of advanced QI systems.

Robots' semantic understanding of their surroundings is critical to make them flexible and autonomous in decision-making. However, this semantic knowledge must be transferable to the robot, executable with commands that the robotic agent can understand, and adaptable in case of unexpected events. In this work, we propose a method that exploits Programming by Demonstration (PbD) to provide the robot with semantic Behaviour Trees (BTs). These encapsulate the Skill's semantic knowledge through Predicates and its execution through position and force primitives. Each tree can be enhanced with additional demonstrations, creating new Modes to achieve the same action. Together with a knowledge base and a PDDL planner, BTs provide the robot autonomy, flexibility and reactiveness.

Maritime vessels are complex systems that generate and require the utilization of large amounts of data for maximum efficiency. However, integrating different knowledge and data into the decision-making process during the design process remains a challenge. To address this problem, a development framework to support changeability for next generation vessels is proposed using Model Based systemsengineering (MBSE) and associated SysML diagrams. This framework incorporates literature and industry interviews and can be integrated into the systemsengineering development approach to improve decision-making through the inclusion of feedback loops. The contribution of this paper is the establishment of a development framework for incorporating change into the design, development, and deployment of next-generation vessels.
