This paper presents a two-mode switching secure communication system design based on linear unknown input filtering. In the transmitter design, a two-mode encryption method through unknown inputs switching is developed to enhance the security of transmitted message. Specifically, the feedthrough matrix of unknown inputs in the output equation is properly chosen to facilitate the design. In the receiver design, a new two-mode switching derivative-distributed unknown input filtering (DDUIF) is developed to decrypt the encrypted message. In this method, a two-mode switching reformed transmitter system is first designed to simplify the receiver circuit design. Then, the previously proposed DDUIF is used to recover the transmitted message. Next, to compensate for synchronization error, a delayed transmitted message and a delayed decrypted message annihilating signal are proposed to correctly recover the transmitted message. Finally, the usefulness of the proposed method is verified using an illustrative example. © 2023 IEEE.

Clustering algorithms are crucial in uncovering hidden patterns and structures within datasets. Among the density-based clustering algorithms, DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) has gained considerable attention for its effectiveness in various applications. However, determining appropriate parameter values for this algorithm remains a challenging task. This paper presents a novel methodology for eps parameter estimation for an improved DBSCAN, namely SS-DBSCAN. The experimental results across nine datasets demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed method in accurately determining clusters with eps value from SS-DBSCAN algorithm. The clusters identified using estimated eps values by SS-DBSCAN align well with the inherent structure of the datasets, yielding better cluster results than the manually set parameters and other methods used for automatic estimations of the eps for DBSCAN. Our approach adapted well to the peculiarities of each dataset, whether dealing with different scales, dimensions, or densities;it proved the versatility and robustness across various datasets, thereby emphasizing its generalizability and potential for broader applications. © 2023 IEEE.

Plagiarism is a well-known problem that impacts the academic community. The escalation of source code plagiarism affects the quality of computer science and technology education. This article approaches a novel architecture for an academic plagiarism detection system focused on projects and source code. A part of the detection process is based on a few already existing open-source tools. All the system components use the OpenStack Cloud platform services for scalability, parallel processing of files, and load balancing. The solution also integrates with an identity and access management system, which contains users, roles, and cohorts. The proposed solution is an efficient approach for both organizing assignments at which students upload projects and for detecting plagiarism in all the submitted assignments. © 2023 IEEE.

The artificial pancreas system is a recent development to assist patients with type 1 diabetes controlling their blood glucose levels. It involves several medical devices that use wireless protocols for communication and thus are vulnerable to cyber attacks. This paper focuses on replay and denial-of-service attacks because of their commonality and potentially significant impact on the patient's health. These attacks were modeled and implemented on the GlucoSym Simulator, a program used to develop safer and more accurate AP control algorithms. The effects of each attack on the patient's glucose and insulin dose levels were observed and recorded. Observations of events of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia over the course of the simulation were used to identify the ideal time for an attacker to cause the most harm to the patient. Finally, a detection method for these attacks is proposed to alert the AP user that corrective actions need to be taken in the event of an attack. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent advances in climate change policies and sustainable energy systems are spurring the widespread deployment of microgrids. The main operational challenge of these systems is the lack of inertia (in islanded mode) that is typically present in the main grid. To preserve the stable operation of the system, efficient control algorithms are necessary. In this paper, we present a novel optimal control algorithm that leverages constructs from machine learning to decouple interactions between various actuating power components in the microgrid. This allows every actuating entity to make control decisions based only on local measurements. As no communication is necessary with our proposed control algorithm, vulnerabilities and delays that are typically associated with communication-based control algorithms are eliminated. Also, in contrast to traditional decentralized techniques (e.g. droop-based) that are myopic in nature, our algorithm allows for the tracking of the original setpoint without any offsets as the global interactions are accounted for by the machine learning component of the proposed algorithm. We demonstrate the performance, stability and scalability of our proposal via practical simulations conducted on a 15-bus microgrid system. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper deals with the analysis of the stability of a microgrid (MG) system providing power to both passive and active loads. Constant power loads are reasons for the unstable operation of microgrid as it demonstrates negative impedance characteristics. However, they stabilize the microgrid system when operated in parallel with a constant impedance load. The presence of an active load affects the power demand, voltage regulation, energy efficiency, and reliability of the microgrid. Rectifier or voltage regulator type loads in microgrid degrade the small signal damping as their control loop dynamics is in sync with the frequency range of inverters deployed. In this paper, participation analysis of the eigenvalues of the system with active load identifies the low-frequency modes which are associated with the voltage controller of the active load. While further analysis shows the active load voltage controller with large gains, affects the performance of the voltage controller of the inverters connected to the system. The whole system model is developed in MATLAB, where the voltage, frequency, and real and reactive power profiles are studied to understand the effect of active load. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel circular tablet defect detection algorithm based on machine learning techniques to address the challenge of insufficient data for training samples. Utilizing cameras, lenses, and light sources, we establish an image acquisition hardware system for capturing tablet images, and on the basis of image preprocessing, the designed defect detection algorithm is used for detection, forming a complete and efficient round tablet defect detection process. The experimental results have been demonstrated that the performance of the sample missed detection rate was 0.2%, the false detection rate is 0.6%, and the total error rate is 0.8%, all lower than 1%. The proposed detection algorithm does not require sample training and can be well applied to the identification of defects such as abnormal tablet circular areas and foreign matter on the surface of tablets. © 2024 IEEE.

The paper compares the formation conditions, crystal structure, conductivity, and thermoelectric properties of thin CrSi and CoSi films on silicon substrates with (111) and (100) orientations. It is found that, despite the insufficiently good conductivity, the films have a noticeable Seebeck coefficient (up to 70 μV/K) in the temperature range of 200-450 K: positive for CrSi and negative for CoSi. The maximum power factor is estimated at 2 to 3 mW/(m2×K). For CoSi, first-principles calculations of the phonon structure and lattice thermal conductivity are performed, including in the form of nanowires. Estimates are made for the achievable dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit of CoSi thin films: ZT=0.40-0.50 T=200-450 K. © 2024 IEEE.

Most machine learning (ML) algorithms reported for ultrasonic guided wave structural health monitoring (GW-SHM) applications, particularly for damage assessment in the presence of time-varying environmental and operating variables, use networks with a lot of parameters, necessitating cloud computing or expensive computing and storage infrastructure. This raises the cost of the solution and may prevent the widespread use of GW-SHM. In this paper, we describe a viable alternative based on TinyML framework, to create lightweight machine learning models that can be instantly deployed on embedded edge devices. We present a practical implementation of this scheme on a custom-designed FPGA-based embedded system for GW-SHM of a honeycomb composite sandwich structure (HCSS) in presence of large thermal variations. © 2023 IEEE.

Retinal imaging facilitates the opinion and helps to detect diabetic retinopathy at the early stage. Cardiovascular conditions of the human body can be identified by analyzing the retinal images and the risk is tracked by analyzing blood vessels of the retina. Discovery of any abnormal features in the eye fundus retinal in the before stage is essential as well as experts on this sphere need further acceptable automatic discovery styles to describe the unheroic spots caused by diabetics to control its propagation on the retina. Image analysis of the retina is the fundamental approach to handle the eye diseases and other infections affecting eye fundus. This system introduces a more accurate medical opinion model for diabetic retinopathy discovery in fundus images by automated classification of landmarks. (i) Data preprocessing and augmentation;(ii) Automated classification with deep learning;(iii) Principal feature selection with Whale optimization Algorithm;(iv) Feature extraction;(v) Performance assessment. In the proposed project we used a class of automatic classification algorithms in our system, and the VGG-16 produces better results. The model secured an accuracy of 94 % and loss function of 0.0633. © 2023 IEEE.
