In order to make better use of the excellent Frequency Regulation (FR) performance of Electric Vehicles (EVs), this paper focuses on the FR power allocation method for EVs coordinated with thermal power units in automatic Generation control (AGC). The real-time dispatchable power of large-scale EVs in the form of the aggregator is calculated based on the single EV dispatchable power calculation model. The obtained real-time dispatchable power is used to coordinate with thermal power units participating in the AGC performance assessment through the time-period partitioning control strategy. By piecewise linearizing the battery life loss model, the life loss and the dispatchable power of EVs are integrated to allocate the FR power for EVs in the aggregator. Through the analysis of case, EVs can participate in the AGC performance assessment coordinated with thermal power units well based on the time-period partitioning control strategy. The method proposed in this paper has the better ability in the life loss and solution speed compared with the traditional power allocation strategy to prove its effectiveness. © 2022 IEEE.

The smart power grid is a critical infrastructure that has been targeted recently by several cyber-attacks. Hence, it is important that advancements are made in intrusion detection systems (IDSs). Recently, promising results have been reported using deep machine learning techniques to develop effective IDSs. However, the existing studies suffer from the following limitations: (a) The adoption of either only physical features (power system measurements) or only cyber features (network logs) in the development of IDSs;(b) The adoption of deep learning techniques that operate on 2D data, while power system measurements are graph-structure data. In this paper, we address these limitations and propose an effective IDS against false data injection and ransomware attacks. Our proposed IDS improves the attack detection performance by (a) fusing cyber-physical features collected from a practical testbed and (b) adopting a topology-aware model based on a graph neural network (GNN) to exploit the spatial and temporal correlation within the data. Our experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of our IDS compared with benchmarks that are based on topology-unaware models and use solely cyber or physical data. © 2023 IEEE.

A lightning current measurement system for wind turbines was developed and tested in the High Voltage Laboratory at the Faculty of electrical engineering and computing, University of Zagreb, to determine actual distributions of lightning current parameters in a particular wind turbine area. The output of the measurement system is a waveform of lightning current. The measurement system consists of two current sensors with different frequency and amplitude ranges and a real-Time controller with two digitizers and a GPS module. The current sensors are Rogowski coils connected to integrators with coaxial cables. The prototype was installed on a wind turbine in a high winter lightning activity area. The current stage of development involves integrating the high-speed camera into the prototype measurement system to obtain the visual confirmation of the waveform measurements and help categorize lightning strikes into downward or upward strikes. The camera control application was developed in LabVIEW. The camera was set to trigger by the real-Time controller. Also, a redundant trigger occurs when there is a change in motion in the camera frame in case the prototype measurement system fails to register a lightning strike and therefore fails to send a trigger signal to the camera. The camera control application was tested in the High Voltage Laboratory by recording a flashover in a spark gap and a flashover on the insulator. © 2023 IEEE.

Traditional lithography techniques are currently facing challenges, including high costs and the susceptibility of mask plates to damage. This research aims to elucidate the feasibility and technical constraints of a novel diffraction lithography approach. This method can reduce the size and cost of lithography machines, break through existing technological barriers, and offer new possibilities for the future development of lithography machines. We have built a basic computational holographic lithography system utilizing a 405nm laser and validated the system using holograms obtained with both classical GS algorithm and a newly proposed method. With the GS holograms, patterns with 700nm features have been successfully exposed on the photoresist. With our new algorithms, multiple holograms for the same target pattern can be generated with different settings in the algorithm. Sequential exposure of those holograms resulted in continuous lines 500 nm wide with reduced speckle artifacts, which was about a 1.4-time improvement over the result from the GS algorithm. Future research will focus on optimizing and enhancing the experimental system and the hologram calculation methods to reduce the line widths further and improve the exposure pattern quality. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. The article provides a study of the influence of various factors on the insulation state of power transformers. When conducting research, the theory of experimental design was used. The numerical values of the factors that are most often encountered during the operation of power transformers are given. Experiment preparation and statistical data processing were carried out in the STATICTICA 6.0 software environment. The experiment was carried out using an automated acoustic diagnostic system and a simulator with a different set of defects. The obtained research results are used in the technique of recognizing acoustic signals from power transformers with varying degrees of development of insulation defects. The solution to the problem was carried out using regression analysis. The coefficients of the regression model are obtained and data on the adequacy of the mathematical model are presented. It is shown that the results of the research can be used to create reference signals for comparison with the signals of power transformers during operation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This paper explains an artificial neural network (ANN)-based control for photovoltaic (PV) system with dc/dc boost converters connected in cascaded with a single-phase cascaded H-bridge (CHB) 9-level inverter with finite control set (FCS) model predictive control (MPC) for rural water pumping with speed control. First, a digital PI controller for each of the four boost converters is designed, then this controller is used as a supervisor to train the ANN, which is designed with the help of Matlab/Simulink software. Once each dc-bus voltage is regulated, the CHB 9-level inverter with the FCS-MPC algorithm is utilized to control the current and the speed of an induction motor water pump. The simulation results show that the ANN-based control scheme for the boost converters improves the voltage control performance compared to the PI, and an excellent behavior of the water pump is achieved with the FCS-MPC scheme developed for the CHB multilevel inverter

In the realm of verbal communication, most common non-clinical speech disfluencies are filler words and filled pauses, which pose challenges for effective oral presentations. Yet their detection is no easy task. This article presents the usage of OpenAI’s Whisper for filled pauses and filler words detection in Spanish oral presentations, including on-the-wild usage with undergraduate students. Preliminary results indicate that Whisper demonstrates promise as a valuable tool to identify a substantial amount of filler words and filled pauses. Despite areas of improvement, Whisper serves as a diagnostic tool for assessing disfluences in oral communication. Copyright © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Skin cancer is one of the dangerous diseases which causes human death. It is originated by the abnormal growth of melanocytic cells. The malignant Skin cancer is also referred by another name as melanoma. The key source for the computer aided diagnosis is Dermoscopy image which acquires the skin cancer. Fortunately, a high percentage of skin cancers can be cured if they are found early. automatic early detection approaches are being used as quick and practical skin cancer screening due to the expense and morbidity of this biopsy procedure. The existing methods of melanoma detection meet-up the demerits such as less accuracy, false segmentation and more time consumption. To overcome these issues, the proposed High performance Deep Learning Architecture method for classifying the skin cancer. It involves three types of techniques are used for comparison study are MobileNet, ResNeXt101, and Multi-Model Ensemble. The performance metrics used for the comparison are accuracy, precision, and recall. The comparison of the accuracy value for MobileNet, ResNeXt101 and Multi-model ensemble techniques are 97.2%, 84.2% and 86% respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The paper underscores the paramount importance of connecting agriculture to the Internet, emphasizing the role of IoT in facilitating applications like crop monitoring and automated irrigation decisions. The proposed smart agriculture system, featuring energy autonomy and cost-effectiveness, aims to address persistent agricultural challenges that impede national development. The research introduces a novel approach to agriculture, offering a tangible pathway toward sustainable farming practices in the face of water scarcity and environmental uncertainties. This paper presents the design of an advanced control system for product quality of a butylene-butane distillation column (BBDC) based on High Order Iteration Learning control (HOILC). The multicomponent distillation process was adapted to a pseudo-binary distillation process for the development of automatic control systems for the product's quality. Starting from this assumption, dynamic models of the process were obtained for the input-output channels reflux flowrate - concentration of the pseudo-light component and bottom product flowrate - concentration of the pseudo-heavy component. To enhance the control accuracy of product quality, this paper adopts a high-order iterative learning algorithm to optimize the accuracy of the product quality control system for the butene-butane distillation tower. Compared with conventional iterative learning, a high-order iterative learning algorithm contains more degree of freedom, which significantly improves the algorithm performance, speeds up the convergence process, reduces the required number of batches, and ultimately achieves the goal of reducing the number of trays and improving efficiency. Simulation and modeling of a product quality control system for a butene-butane distillation column in Simulink, and its validation through MATLAB coding and Simulink, have demonstrated that High-order ILC effectively improves the performance and cost of the product quality control system for this type of distillation column. © 2023 IEEE.
