Voltage unbalance is a pervasive issue in power distribution systems that can significantly impact the performance and longevity of voltage motors across various applications. This paper investigates the consequences of voltage unbalance on motors. It comprehensively analyzes this phenomenon and provides an overview of voltage unbalance, including its causes and effects in power networks. The results illustrated in this illuminate how voltage unbalance can result in fluctuating torque and speed, ultimately leading to decreased motor life and potential system failures. Moreover, it underscores the significance of addressing voltage unbalance in power systems to ensure efficient and reliable voltage motor operation. It provides valuable insights into understanding voltage unbalance effects on voltage motors and using STATCOM to mitigate such effects under various conditions.

This article examines the power flow and voltage profile of a transmission line system. A flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) device named unified power flow controller (UPFC) incorporating fuzzy logic controller (FLC) has been implemented to reduce power loss and enhance voltage profile after the current network analysis was completed. Utilizing Newton-Raphson load flow analysis, the weakest bus in a system is identified for the installation of UPFC. The 341-km-long, 230 kV line that runs from Bahir Dar to Alamata serves as the validation point for this controller’s operation. Therefore, to demonstrate the performance of FLC-UPFC, a comparison has been done using conventional proportional-integral (PI)-based UPFC, FLC-UPFC, and without UPFC at the same load bus. For example, receiving end voltage improves by 11% when PI-UPFC is used, while real and reactive power flows improve by 13.7% and 8.6%, respectively. Voltage rises by 14.9% when the recommended FLC-UPFC is used, while the real and reactive power flows have improved by 21.6% and 15.05%, respectively. The findings indicate that the FLC-UPFC technique, which is being proposed, performs better than the conventional PI controller. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The integration of Traffic Light Detection (TLD) systems with Advanced Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS) marks a critical milestone in enhancing road safety and paving the way for advanced autonomous driving. This survey paper provides a panoramic and extensive overview of the state-of-the-art TLD solutions leveraging sensors and deep learning techniques. With an increasing emphasis on accident prevention and traffic management, the intersection of TLD and AEBS has become a focal point of research and development. This survey begins by elucidating the fundamental challenges associated with TLD, including varying environmental conditions, occlusions, and complex traffic scenarios. We explore the pivotal role of sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, and radar in providing the requisite data for TLD, and delve into the intricacies of sensor fusion techniques for enhanced perception. Deep Learning has emerged as a cornerstone technology in TLD, enabling robust object detection, classification, and real-time decision-making. We meticulously analyze a spectrum of deep learning architectures including Single-Shot Detectors (SSD), Faster R-CNN, YOLO, and custom-designed networks tailored for TLD applications. Furthermore, the survey examines critical components of the TLD pipeline, encompassing data collection, preprocessing, model training, real-time inference, and integration with AEBS. Emphasis is placed on real-time constraints, multi-modal sensor fusion, and adaptability to diverse traffic light configurations. The paper also delves into the significance of accurate traffic light state prediction, going beyond mere detection to anticipate traffic light changes and optimize vehicle control actions. Human-centric interaction and privacy concerns are addressed, encompassing driver warnings, user interfaces, and data anonymization strategies. BSS stands for blind source separation is an important method to unmix the resulted speech signal when multiple speakers are involved in the audio signals. This research deals with enhancing the use of Independent Component Analysis (ICA) with particular emphasis on issues of preprocessing and analysis of simultaneous speech occurrence in complicated environments. The NOISEX-92 database was used which is a multi-speaker recording with noise and then ICA algorithms are applied using the programming language Python with Scikit-learn tools. Using an ICA approach, the mixed signals were reversed into their original and independent parts, which should correspond to different speakers. The performance of the separated speech signals was analyzed based on measures such as signal to noise ratio (SNR), and perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) to effectively demonstrate the success of the method for separating speech sources. The implications of the findings are that ICA should improve source separation in real-world environments and future research into speech enhancement, teleconferencing barren sophisticated automatic speech recognition systems.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) play a crucial role ranging from environmental control to queue tracking. These networks are established by deploying numerous tiny sensor nodes that communicate with each other wirelessly. However, the routing paths in WSNs often suffer from delays in timely information delivery. The proposed Multi Objective Grey Wolf Optimization (MOGWO) aims to address these challenges where information transmission may converge slowly and routing paths may struggle in large-dimensional spaces. The objective of MOGWO is to efficiently send information by selecting the shortest path based on the regions. The MOGWO focuses on achieving high efficiency by choosing the shortest path to explore information. In the context of network routing MOGWO optimizes the path to the destination considering the energy levels of the sensor nodes. The proposed MOGWO method demonstrates superior performance compared to existing methods such as PSO, Black Widow Optimization (BWO) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). Specifically, the MOGWO method yields better results, achieving an energy consumption of 43 J, Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) of 90%, and End-To-End Delay (ETED) of 33 s. This outperforms existing methods, highlighting the effectiveness of the MOGWO approach in enhancing network routing paths in WSN. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This work analyzes the computing performance of distributed control systems in IEC 61499 on two hardware devices, Dell XPS workstation and Raspi 4B. Based on the test IEC 61499 application, three different system configurations are tested to simulate the distribution options of singleprocess and single-thread, multi-threading, and multi-process on both hardware platforms. Experimental results show that multiprocess configurations yield more consistent execution time due to dedicated resource allocation, while multi-threading, though resource-efficient, can lead to latency variability. These results aim at help in choosing optimal configurations and selecting hardware for performance in distributed automation systems.

Learning offers a useful tool for the automatic design of autonomous robots. These Robots show an unprecedented capability to change to a greater extent as they can learn painlessly throughout their life from new tasks and environments. Such an attitude is crucial when deploying independent robots in climates and real-world settings that are dynamic and unpredictable. By learning constantly, the robots are in a position to evolve and improve at every given opportunity. This research outlines shifts in certain pathways at an individual level such as techniques used to prevent drastic memory loss, increasing memory’s fittingness, and usage of two memory systems. Models of human memory and learning as well as specific methods of dual memory structure are utilized to improve the performance of robotic agents and to replicate complex human behaviour. These comparisons allow researchers to get a clear picture of where the field is currently at and also the potential trajectories i t can take. The objective of this paper is to analyse the evolution of various approaches to the task of lifelong learning. It discusses the advantages of lifelong learning of robots and highlights the problems that researchers have faced for this such as catastrophic forgetting, limited scalability, complexity, cost issues, etc., and compares various techniques that have been used to address these problems. Challenges of farming are getting worse due to pests, other environmental issues, and changes in the climate. Several novel technologies have been developed to improve plant growth and productivity, yet there are still numerous issues in this field. This suggests that daily improvements are needed. This paper provides an innovative automated system that uses a variety of environmental sensors, including as $\mathbf{p H}$, TDS, and humidity, for hydroponics and aeroponics. These sensors continuously monitor and modify crucial components to provide the perfect growth environment. In addition, the system has autonomous nutrient dosing, which reduces the need for human intervention and boosts overall effectiveness. Better control over the farming process is made possible by the system’s ability to scale and monitor in real-time thanks to the integration of IoT technologies. The study also looks at how machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) might improve crop health monitoring and growth forecasts. Additionally, an LED-lit indoor farming setup is included in the system.
