This study offers experimental testing of commercial and laboratory inverters, utilized in a laboratory prototype of an urban microgrid. Operation of grid inverters supplied by PV arrays in urban environments, encounters challenges such as partial shading and soiling. Emulation of the current-voltage characteristics of PV arrays enables repeated and reliable testing of inverter operation under irregular supply conditions. It has been shown that finding the maximum power point can be challenging under conditions of partial shading and soiling. Additionally, meeting the grid quality standards for the delivered power represents a challenge. Satisfying these requirements can be achieved through careful design of LCL filters at inverter output terminals, but further improvement can be achieved only through an adequate selection of the primary controller. To further improve the quality of grid currents, the possibility of applying innovative control algorithms has been demonstrated for laboratory inverters. Application of sliding mode controllers, besides ensuring system robustness, can prevent overshoots and fault responses from the current protection circuit by introducing a specific anti-windup structure. © 2024 IEEE.

This work presents algorithms based in the continuous wavelet transform with splines for the automatic delineation of the characteristic points of the P, Q and R waves. For the validation of the P wave start and end algorithm, 80 records from the QT database (QTDB) were used with manual annotations realized by experts, which were compared with the detections of the developed algorithms. The obtained errors were: 7.51 ± 7.23 ms for the start of P wave and 7.29 ± 5.86 ms for the end of P wave, which are below of the tolerance limits for deviations determined by the experts. The P and R waves peaks detection algorithms were evaluated with 18 and 11 records from QTDB respectively, and a sensitivity and positive predictivity over 99.5% were obtained. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a path-planning system for micro-robots based on machine vision, designed to enable the efficient control of micro-robot swarms. Micro-robots have diverse applications in fields such as industry and education, including precision assembly, product inspection, teaching demonstrations, and scientific experiments, where they enhance operational accuracy and technical comprehension. To achieve synchronized swarm control, the proposed system employs a modular design approach, enabling each robot to operate as an independently controlled unit, while coordinated path design facilitates the collective movement of multiple robots. The hardware architecture integrates a positioning camera, a probe-based motion structure, and a power-drive circuit, while the software framework incorporates machine vision for positioning and pose recognition, a path navigation system, and Wi-Fi communication. This integrated approach equips the micro-robots with precise tracking and path-planning capabilities, ensuring the efficient execution of specified path trajectories. © 2024 IEEE.

Energy Harvested Wireless Sensor Networks (EHWSN) play a vital role in mission-critical applications such as forest fire detection and industrial control and safety applications. Accurate solar forecasting is essential for the proper design of the Medium Access control protocol (MAC). Recent work has focused on considering only a single variable, i.e., previous solar data, for solar forecasting, resulting in low accuracy. In the proposed work, covariance among the features was determined using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Only those features showing strong correlations were retained. Subsequently, the KNN-Regression technique, applied with the reduced feature set, demonstrated a significant improvement over the previous method. The proposed approach achieved an accuracy of 92.47% with a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 11.52, compared to the previous figures of 85.14 and 17.11, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to the coupling effect between the DC/AC system as well as between different LCC-HVDC, the first commutation failure can cause a series of chain reactions, including successive commutation failure, overvoltage of the rectifier station, and subsequent commutation failure. The existing control methods for suppressing overvoltage or commutation failure cannot simultaneously meet the needs of the sending and receiving end grid of MIDC. It may expand the impact and scope of a single fault. Therefore, a commutation failure chain reaction suppression method is proposed based on the characterization of chain reaction boundary conditions. The effectiveness is verified by using the CIGRE standard test model. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This work presents the results of the examination of the HeLa cell line exposure on the ELF-EMF (extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field). In particular, the relationship between ELF-EMF exposition time and cell death. The examination of cell death hallmarks were examined by estimation levels of selected proteins - FACL4 (a protein that is a part of the ferroptosis pathway) and CK18 (Cytokeratin related to necrosis and apoptosis pathways) in the proposed model of workers exposed to ELF-EMF week. © 2024 IEEE.

Renewable energy sources have become more integrated into power grids, and as they do so the effective operation of Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) becomes a vital factor to address intermittency and ensure grid stability. Our research offers an innovative control system for ESS that integrates Particle Swarm Optimization and Adaptive Dynamic Programming techniques for optimal operation. PSO leverages its strengths to optimize and initialize control parameters in an ADP framework for improved control performance and efficiency. This research stands out for its innovative algorithms and evaluation parameters explicitly designed to meet the unique control needs of ESS systems. An adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) framework fine-tunes control parameters utilizing PSO for pretraining purposes to allow rapid adaptation to changing grid requirements and operational conditions. Novel evaluation parameters have been employed to assess control schemes, considering energy efficiency, response-time impact analysis, lifetime evaluation, and life cycle evaluation for an in-depth assessment of their effectiveness. PSO-based ADP Energy Storage control Scheme offers an innovative, effective, and practical method for integrating ESS technology in modern power grids. This research advances energy-storage control strategies by creating robust algorithms and comprehensive evaluation methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Retinal optic disk (OD) fundus imaging is a valuable tool for glaucoma diagnostics, while deep learning methods are often used to assist ophthalmologists in their clinical practice. Nonetheless, the performance of deep learning-assisted OD evaluation can be severely affected by the experiment variations and the use of small samples in network training. This study proposes using a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-optimized U-Net model to automatically segment OD in fundus photographs. The PSO method is used to fine-tune the training hyperparameters, i.e., learner, number of epochs, mini-batch size, and initial learning rate, to achieve good generalization performance even with a small training dataset. The findings showed a considerably good performance of the trained model with average overlap measures of 0.93-0.96 and mean performance evaluation metrics ranging between 0.89 and 0.99, comparable with the results of the state-of-the-art methods. This study concluded that the segmentation model trained using the proposed optimization framework could potentially be used for early glaucoma detection and improve healthcare delivery. © 2024 IEEE.

The berthing of maritime autonomous surface ships (MASSs) is a difficult problem because the ships sail at low speed in ports with complex environment. This article investigates the automatic berthing control of an MASS subject to model uncertainties and ocean disturbances. An anti-disturbance parallel control architecture is proposed for the automatic berthing of an MASS. At the motion planning level, a digital twin model for the physical MASS is first established based on a neural-network state predictor method. Then, a model-predictive berthing planner is proposed to plan a smooth trajectory based on the digital twin model for automatic berthing. At the motion control level, a line-of-sight guidance law and a parallel anti- disturbance control law are proposed such that the MASS is able to track the planned berthing trajectory and achieve automatic berthing. It is proven that the closed-loop system is input-to-state stable. Simulation results are elaborated to substantiate the efficacy of the proposed parallel berthing control architecture for an MASS. © 2024 IEEE.
