In the last decade, researchers and scientists have been attracted to the innovations and progress in the field of power electronics and drives. The demand for real-time prototype controllers is rapidly increasing in field-oriented control (FOC) methods. Among those, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) digital controllers are widely used in the speed estimation of Sensorless AC drives. Due to non-linearity, complex calculations involved in the rotating AC machines cause hardware issues related to the implementation and monitoring of control systems in real-time industrial applications. In this work, a novel Xilinx ARTIX-7 FPGA-based Snetly real-time controller is used to study the Direct Torque control (DTC) of induction motor drive. The performance analysis of the drive is validated and verified using MATLAB/Simulink Software and the results are compared with the proposed Snetly controller. The proposed prototype controller shows robust performance and the results are presented in this paper using numerical simulations. In the future, the proposed controller can compete with other controllers in the extended areas of modern AC drives. © 2022 IEEE.

Power system simulation involves simulating the operating states and dynamic processes of power systems using mathematical models and computer technology to analyze and predict system behavior. Traditional simulation methods struggle to meet the needs of large-scale, complex power grids due to significant demands for computational resources. Cloud computing, with its high scalability, resource pooling, and on-demand services, is ideally suited for the extensive simulation calculations required by modern power systems. Despite its advantages, the application of cloud computing in power system simulation poses challenges related to data security and privacy, particularly in collaborative simulations involving multiple power entities. This paper presents the design and implementation of a cloud computing-based power system simulation platform. The proposed platform leverages the distributed computing capabilities of cloud computing, integrates federated learning to ensure data privacy, and utilizes advanced power system simulation technologies. This approach significantly enhances simulation efficiency and accuracy while providing data security and privacy protection. The platform offers reliable decision support for power system planning, operation, and control. © 2024 IEEE.

Government-funded, charities, and international organizations devote substantial resources to catastrophe avoidance, reduction, preparation, reply, and recovery. Planning for and responding to disasters present difficult logistical issues. Several organizations have looked at using helicopters as an extra tool for first responders to use while searching for casualties. Examining current studies on drone usage for searches and rescues is the aim of the present investigation. We find that there are issues with employing such aircraft for municipal rescue missions, identifying cell phones in an emergency using hidden sensors, and incorporating probability optimization for optimization within robot control. © 2024 IEEE.

This abstract describes the project funded by the IEEE SMCS on Transforming Educational Assets and Materials (TEAM) in Systems, Man, and Cybernetics. The project develops an open course on Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) Foundation and Design for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The course will be available to the public and serve the need of researchers, students and professionals who are interested in conducting UAVs related research. The open course contains integrated modules on control, communication and networking, computing, and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide trainees a comprehensive knowledge needed for UAVs. The course is self-paced and contains quizzes in each module for help students assess the quality of learning and also allow course designers to evaluate the effectiveness of the course materials for continuous improvement. The open course promotes CPS which is a SMCS technical field. It will also attract students and professionals to the SMC community. © 2024 IEEE.

There have been several developments in renewable resources, standby sources of energy, and storage technologies. Because renewable sources are inconsistent, the best method to ensure supply continuity is to combine them with traditional energy to serve mini-grids or the isolated loads that are not linked to the main grid. In hybrid power system, many different energy sources are blended. Every time, effective and efficient Energy Management Strategies (EMS) are necessary when more than a source of energy is employed to supply a given load. This strategy directs the energy flow via the supply chain. This is necessary not just for standalone hybrid systems, but for hybrid power system that are linked to the main network. The intelligent control of hybrid MG has been the subject of a large number of serious research projects. A comprehensive assessment of the approaches used by a number of writers in their research work on applying energy management approaches is conducted. Standalone hybrid energy systems and the hybrid systems those are linked to the electrical grids are examples of these solutions. The aim of this paper is to give summary of various energy management schemes utilized in sustainable hybrid systems. Brief study is conducted for a number of freestanding and grid-linked hybrid system designs in order to make sure and find that which energy management technique that works well and will be applied for one renewable source is not always the best for another. © 2025 IEEE.

In recent years, activities across countries have increasingly been carried out digitally, with information being shared over networks to boost speed and efficiency. However, this digital transformation poses security threats. Cybercrime has consistently evolved, necessitating improved network security measures to combat digital scams. To maintain security, users are assigned unique identification passwords, which they are instructed to keep secret. Despite this, attackers often manage to steal passwords. To counter these threats, we propose using honeywords, which are decoy passwords created from the existing user password. If an attacker inputs a honeyword, an alert is activated for the administrator. Moreover, we implement IP and location monitoring for users and introduce a approach known as the video click-based CAPTCHA system. This scheme authenticates users by distinguishing between humans and bots, addressing issues in traditional graphic password CAPTCHA schemes. This architecture significantly enhances protection and security of data and applications over online networks. © 2025 IEEE.

The conventional smart grid, while enhancing electricity networks, lacks advanced features such as automatic decision-making, security, scalability, and real-time monitoring. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine to Machine (M2M) communication, supported by the evolving communication infrastructure, promises a transformative next-generation smart grid. This paper provides a comprehensive review of emerging trends and technological foundations, envisioning a future smart grid propelled by AI and empowered by the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G. Addressing integration challenges, it proposes solutions and discusses standards crucial for optimal smart grid architecture. Future work will focus on implementing this integration using tools like Matlab, NS2/NS3, Open Daylight, and Mininet, comparing outcomes with existing literature. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper designs an automatic control system for hawthorn strips automatic feeding, orderly distribution, and automatic packaging functions based on the research on the product characteristics of hawthorn strips. The paper mainly designed the hawthorn strip automatic replenishment bin, lifting bin, hawthorn strip separation mechanism, linear conveying, automatic powder and automatic grasping system. The control system and man-machine interface of the whole system are designed, programmed and realized. It solves the problems that hawthorn strips are difficult to achieve automatic packaging, manual sorting, low efficiency and error-prone, and improves production efficiency. © 2022 IEEE.

In order to reduce the heavy online computational burden and simultaneously decrease the conservatism of the existing robust MPC algorithms, this paper proposed an improved robust MPC strategy considering one degree-of-freedom for control variable(s). Firstly, based on RBF-ARX model, a polytopic model can be constructed, and two polytopic sets can be obtained offline. To reduce its conservatism, this paper introduced one free variable(s) to control variable(s) and designed a new online algorithm. During the online control process, the new algorithm only needs to execute simple state-vector computation and bisection search, and then solves a simple LMI optimization problem to obtain free variable(s), so as to balance the online computation burden and the control performance. Finally, comparison experiments for two algorithms was conducted on a continuously stirred tank reactor to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, and the running time of two controllers was also recorded to test the computing speed of two algorithms. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

With the increasing complexity of industrial process, accurate models of automatic control systems are difficult to be established, which makes model-based control methods become less effective. On this premise, a reinforcement learning (RL) based data-driven control method for dynamic systems is proposed in this paper. For our purposes, a model-free RL controller with an Actor-Critic structure is developed by using neural networks (NN), combining the merits of both value-based and policy-based RL algorithms. Policy of the actor is assessed by the critic, updating parameters of RL controller in real-time for online optimization. The effectiveness of the RL controller is demonstrated by an experimental study on FLUIDMechatronix platform. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
