Despite the availability of video-on-demand (VoD) services in a number of cities around the world, the large-scale deployment of VoD services has not been widely explored due to economic constraints. The high complexity founded in these systems makes the design process very difficult. This study presents a VoD system design for a highspeed metropolitan network, based on ATM technology, located in Brazil. To accomplish this goal, we have utilized our own simulation-based tool for VoD design called VODSim. This tool allows VoD research on any VoD platform, simulating the complete flow path followed by requests from clients to servers passing through the network infrastructure, allowing the configuration and tuning of multiple system parameters. Using VODSim, we analyse possible VoD architectures for the proposal environment (i.e. Centralized-server, Independent-servers, One-level-proxies and Distributedservers), studying key-parameters that have influence in system design. Experimental results show that Distributed-server architecture is the one that adjusts better to the analyzed infrastructure, improving streaming capacity by 16%, 25% and 28% more than One-level-proxies, Centralized and Independent-servers respectively. Taking in account future growth in VoD system, the Distributed-server even provides an unlimited scalability through new local network incorporation and using P2P techniques.

The desire to build a computer that operates in the same manner as our brains is as old as the computer itself. Although computer engineering has made great strides in hardware performance as a result of Dennard scaling, and even great advances in 'brain like' computation, the field still struggles to move beyond sequential, analytical computing architectures. Neuromorphic systems are being developed to transcend the barriers imposed by silicon power consumption, develop new algorithms that help machines achieve cognitive behaviors, and both exploit and enable further research in neuroscience. In this talk I will discuss a system im-plementing spiking neural networks. These systems hold the promise of an architecture that is event based, broad and shallow, and thus more power efficient than conventional computing solu-tions. This new approach to computation based on modeling the brain and its simple but highly connected units presents a host of new challenges. Hardware faces tradeoffs such as density or lower power at the cost of high interconnection overhead. Consequently, software systems must face choices about new language design. Highly distributed hardware systems require complex place and route algorithms to distribute the execution of the neural network across a large number of highly interconnected processing units. Finally, the overall design, simulation and testing process has to be entirely reimagined. We discuss these issues in the context of the Zeroth processor and how this approach compares to other neuromorphic systems that are becoming available.

In an attempt to improve the speed of signal processing VLSI systems, a new architecture for high speed Multiply Accumulate Units is proposed. The architecture is based on Binary trees constructed using 4-2 compressor circuits. Increasing the speed of operation is achieved by taking advantage of the available free input lines of the 4-2 compressors, which result from the parallelogram shape of the generated partial products, and using the bits of the accumulated value to fill in these gaps. This results in merging the accumulation operation within the multiplication process. An 8-bit Multiplier Accumulator prototype circuit using the proposed architecture is prototyped in 0.35 micron double metal CMOS technology and simulated using hspice. simulation results at 3.3 V show that the proposed architecture has a delay of 4.26 ns with a 16.8 delay savings. At 150 MHz operating frequency, the power consumption is 324 mWatts with a 23.04% power saving compared to other architectures not using the merging technique.

This work addresses the prediction of timing properties of a component-based application already during the composition phase. At this stage, it is of vital importance to guarantee that the timing requirements (e.g. end-to-end deadlines) of a real-time application that is executed on a target system is satisfied. This is obtained by predicting the real-time behaviour of a component-based application. We extend an already existing scenario-based approach [J. Muskens et al. (2004)] with the possibility to model the behaviour of an application and the behavior of the underlying components. As a result, an application developer can reason accurately about the dynamic resource consumption and real-time properties of a component assembly. The modeling involves the specification of synchronization constraints for tasks and the simulation of application behaviour. A concluding case-study of video encoder development reveals that the approach is not only feasible but also addresses yet unsolved problems of task parallel execution and synchronization.

Hand gesture recognition from visual images has a number of potential applications in human-computer interaction, machine vision, virtual reality, machine control in industry, and so on. Most conventional approaches to hand gesture recognition have employed data gloves, but for a more natural interface, hand gestures must be recognized from visual images without using any external devices. Our research is intended to draw and edit graphic elements by hand gestures. As a gesture is a continuous motion on a sequential time series, the HMM (hidden Markov model) must be a prominent recognition tool. The most important thing in hand gesture recognition is what the input features are that best represent the characteristics of the moving hand gesture. We consider a planar hand gesture in front of a camera and use 8-directional chain codes as input vectors. For training an HMM network, a simple context modeling method is embedded for training on a "left-to-right" HMM model. This model is applied to drawing and editing specified graphic elements. The overall objective is to recognize 12 different dynamic gestures. In our experiments, we have had good recognition results on a pre-confined test environment: (1) the spotting time is synchronized at the static state of a hand, (2) limb parts other than the hands are motionless, and (3) the change in the hand posture during movement is meaningless. Our system is to be advanced by adopting more diverse input features representing more dynamic features of hand gestures.

COVID-19 has spread throughout the global and has restrained humans in all aspects of life including society, economy, education, etc. The first Corona virus appeared in China on 2019 and had mutated into several variants such as B.1.1.7 (Alpha), B.1.351 (Beta), E484Q (Delta), and BA.2 (Omicron). In order to block the virus to mutate and spread in the communities, we proposed a design of E-Passport by adopting RFID Implants with integrated Microservices technology. Our concepts is we design an android application (E-passport) that will be used by every institution on public places to stop the positive patients getting inside the public space to spread the virus. The checker in every public places need to scan the RFID implants on every humans hand by using NFC technology embedded on android phone with installed E-Passport to determine whether can enter or forbidden to enter. The RFID Implant stored a unique code that can be read as the reference of the person's data information stored in cloud database based on Microservices infrastructure. Our proposed design and architecture are dedicated to stop the COVID-19 virus to spread among public communities.

A generative model for the surface EMG is presented. The model is built on the assumption that motor units in synergistic muscle share neural drives from spinal level, which correspond to the activation of different degrees of freedom (DOF) of natural movements, and are embedded within surface EMG. An artificial neural network (ANN) is developed to extract these drives simultaneously from the multi-channel surface EMG. A direct application of this technique would be providing control signals to prosthetic devices that are capable of simultaneous control of multiple DOF. It also has potential applications in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries and other neuromuscular disorders.

Monitoring environmental phenomena by distributed sensor sampling confronts the challenge of unpredictable variability in the spatial distribution of phenomena often coupled with demands for a high spatial sampling rate. The introduction of actuation-enabled robotics sensors permits a system to optimize the sampling distribution through runtime adaptation. However, such systems must efficiently dispense sampling points or otherwise suffer from poor temporal response. In this paper, we propose and characterize an active modeling system. In our approach, as the robotic sensor acquires measurement samples of the environment, it builds a model of the phenomenon. Our algorithm is based on an incremental optimization process where the robot supports a continuous, iterative process of 1) collecting samples with maximal coverage in the design space; 2) building the environmental model; 3) predicting sampling point locations that contribute the greatest certainty regarding the phenomenon; and 4) sampling the environment based on a combined measure of information gain and navigation and sampling cost. This can provide significant reductions in the magnitude of field estimation error with a modest navigational trajectory time. We evaluate our algorithm through a simulation, using a combination of static and mobile sensors sampling light illumination field.
