There are many possible applications for virtual reality, which is regarded as the apex of human-computer interactions. In order to improve the standardization and automation of disaster operation management, a novel emergency management strategy based on activity network technology is presented. First, the emergency plan is constructed utilizing technology called an activity network and emergency response activities. Straight lines connecting waypoints of interest can be used to depict a virtual journey, although this basic model does not adequately capture ordinary user activity. We put the model into a framework that may be used to reroute medical and food assistance in various real-world and virtual settings. It is helpful for evaluating redirected parameters in different circumstances. In our concept, a flood scenario is the emergency that is needed, and the virtual hologram aids the user in gathering data from each person who requires assistance utilizing a wireless sensor network. The electronic civilization has undergone significant transformation thanks to embedded technology, which has a sizable community. Microcontrollers can be used by embedded systems to collectdata, process it, and produce reliable results. Intelligent principal layout and precise analysis are provided by simulation software when designing a project.

Due to the tremendous success of Deep Learning with neural networks (NNs) in recent years and the simultaneous leap of embedded, low-power devices (e.g. wearables, smart-phones, IoT, and smart sensors), enabling the inference of those NNs in power-constrained environments gave rise to specialized NN accelerators. One paradigm followed by many of those accelerators was the transition from digital domain computing towards performing operations in the analog domain, turning them from digital to mixed-signal NN accelerators. While power-efficiency and inference accuracy have been researched with increasing interest, security and protection against a side-channel attack (SCA) have not found much attention. However, side-channels pose a major security concern by allowing an attacker to steal valuable knowledge about proprietary NNs deployed on accelerators. In order to evaluate mixed-signal NNs accelerators concerning SCA robustness, its tendency to leak information through the side-channel needs investigation. In this work, we propose a methodology for enabling side-channel analysis of mixed-signal NNs accelerators, which shows reasonable accuracy in an early development stage. The approach enables the reuse of large portions of design sources for simulation and production while providing flexibility and fast development cycles for changes to the analog design.

At the nanoscale domain, the simulation, design, and optimization time of the circuits have increased significantly due to high-integration density, increasing technology constraints, and complex device models. This necessitates fast design space exploration techniques to meet the shorter time to market driven by consumer electronics. This paper presents non-polynomial metamodels (surrogate models) using neural networks to reduce the design optimization time of complex nano-CMOS circuit with no sacrifice on accuracy. The physical design aware neural networks are trained and used as metamodels to predict frequency, locking time, and power of a PLL circuit. Different architectures for neural networks are compared with traditional polynomial functions that have been generated for the same circuit characteristics. Thorough experimental results show that only 100 sample points are sufficient for neural networks to predict the output of circuits with 21 design parameters within 3% accuracy, which improves the accuracy by 56% over polynomial metamodels. The generated metamodels are used to perform optimization of the PLL using a bee colony algorithm. It is observed that the non-polynomial (using neural networks) metamodels achieve more accurate results than polynomial metamodels in shorter optimization time.

Vector matrix multiplication computation underlies major applications in machine vision, deep learning and scientific simulation. These applications require high computational speed and are run on platforms that are size, weight and power constrained. With the transistor scaling coming to an end, existing digital hardware architectures will not be able to meet this increasing demand. Analog computation with its rich set of primitives and inherent parallel architecture can be faster, more efficient and compact for some of these applications. One such primitive is a memristor-CMOS crossbar array based vector matrix multiplication. In this paper, we develop a memristor-CMOS analog co-processor architecture that can handle floating point computation. The crossbar array is based on a TaOx memristor device. To demonstrate the working of the analog co-processor at a system level, we use a new tool developed by Cadence and Mathworks called PSpice systems Option which performs integrated co-simulation of MATLAB/Simulink and PSpice. It is shown that the analog co-processor has a superior performance when compared to other processors. Using the new PSpice systems Option tool, various application simulations for image processing and solution to partial differential equations are performed on the analog coprocessor model.

The rise in processing power of computers and the availability of a considerable amount of data have allowed the overlap of several machine learning approaches. This has led to breakthroughs on many deep learning tasks as speech recognition, natural language processing (NLP), object detection and image analysis. Thus, many fields as autonomous driving, industrial quality processes and mobile robotic have released multiples researches in deep learning algorithmic topics. In this paper, we have made a comparison, in terms of accuracy and process timing, between classifications based on 3D points cloud and 2D images for the same input dataset in raw format, and generated basic outlines of both deep learning methods using algorithms based on convolution networks. We discovered that 3D points cloud based classification model was slow on training stage than 2D images model timing due to the 3D complexity data representation. Besides that, classification neural networks based on 3D points cloud data performed better on accuracy than the networks based on 2D images datasets. It is to highlight that 3D based systems are so critical in terms of data processing compared to 2D images due to: Data format as points cloud, meshes and volumes, the hardware resources requirement which is higher due to the third added dimension. Finally, we hypothesize that systems which would combine both of these data geometry and networks architectures would return accuracy better and low processing time wise.

Java has become a popular programming language used on different platforms, ranging from embedded systems to powerful servers. Since the memory management is one of the most time-consuming parts within Java virtual machine (JVM), various techniques have been developed to boost its performance. However, the JVM memory management still does not scale very well, especially for multithreaded server applications. In this paper, we study different aspects of JVM object allocation from thread's perspective, using the trace data we collected from Sun JDK 1.3.1. Additionally, we construct a heap simulator to study the potential memory contentions among different threads. The simulation results show that dividing heap into different subheaps is very effective in alleviating the memory contentions. The results imply the potential benefits of using subheaps in improving the Java memory management performance.

Epileptic detection techniques rely heavily on the Electroencephalography (EEG) as a representative signal carrying valuable information pertaining to the current brain state. In this work, we investigate the stability of time domain EEG features while varying the channel conditions. We identify the feature sets that would provide the most robust EEG classification accuracy. Moreover, an embedded Compressive Sensing (CS)-based EEG encoding system whose complexity is adapted to the channel condition is proposed. We also propose a framework called Classification Accuracy-Compression Ratio-Signal to Noise Ratio (CA-CR-SNR) that adapts compression ratio according to the channel condition. simulation results show that selecting appropriate EEG feature combinations can relatively overcome the impact of bad channel conditions; however, this simple solution is still inadequate. The proposed adaptive algorithm reconfigures the compression ratio based on a channel feedback signal to further improve the classification accuracy.

Graphics processing units (GPUs) are widely used in the area of scientific computing. While GPUs provide much higher peak performance, efficient implementation of real applications on the GPU architectures is still a non-trivial task. It is crucial to realize efficient solution algorithms that can better utilize GPU architectures. This paper presents our efforts in parallelizing and optimizing LESAP, a CFD application for scramjet combustion simulation, on NVIDIA GPUs. The GPU parallelization is realized based on the CUDA programming model, with a data-parallel implicit time-marching method that is efficient on the GPU architecture. Furthermore, shared memory and redundant calculation are proposed to reduce memory access overhead during GPU computation, and data transfer between CPU and GPU is optimized by packing the data to be transferred. The experimental results show that the GPU version, when runs on four V100 GPUs, achieves a speedup of 11.26 times compared to the CPU version that runs on two 24-core Intel Skylake Gold 6240R CPUs. Excellent parallel scalability across multiple GPUs is also observed.

The strongly partitioned real time system (SP-RTS) provides temporal and spatial partitioning for its integrated real time applications. The SP-RTS architecture adopts a two-level hierarchical scheduling mechanism. In the lower level, multiple partitions (applications) are dispatched under a cyclic scheduling, whereas, in the higher level, multiple periodic tasks of each partition are scheduled according to a fixed priority algorithm. The authors focus on designing algorithms for online scheduling of aperiodic tasks in the SP-RTS environment. The Distance Constraint guaranteed Dynamic Cyclic (DC/sup 2/) scheduler that is proposed uses these basic operations: Left Sliding (LS), Right Putting (RP), and Compacting. These operations dynamically schedule aperiodic tasks within a distance-constrained cyclic schedule. We show that the dynamic applications of these operations do not violate the distance constraint characteristics of a partition cyclic schedule. In addition, the slack time calculation of these dynamic operations can be applied for scheduling hard aperiodic tasks. With the simulation studies, we observed that the DC/sup 2/ can result in a significant performance enhancement in terms of the average response time of soft aperiodic tasks and the acceptance rate for hard aperiodic tasks.

Neuromorphic computing uses brain-inspired concepts to accelerate and efficiently execute a wide range of applications, such as mimicking biological circuits, solving NPhard optimization problems and accelerating machine learning at the edge. In particular, neuromorphic architectures to efficiently execute Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) have gained popularity. SNNs extend artificial neural networks (ANNs) by encoding information in time as either rates or delays between spiking events, shared between neurons via their weighted connections. SNN-based platforms are event-driven, resulting in naturally sparse, noise-tolerant and power-efficient computation. In this tutorial, we present the state-of-the-art in scalable digital and analog spiking neuromorphic system architectures, and discuss current research trends within the neuromorphic architecture field at the system level. We further introduce our SANA-FE tool for simulation of Advanced Neuromorphic architectures for Fast Exploration, which has been developed as part of a collaboration between the University of Texas at Austin and Sandia National Laboratories. SANA-FE allows for modeling and performance-power prediction of different spiking hardware architectures executing SNN applications to support rapid, early system-level design-space exploration, hardware-aware application development and system architecture co-design. The tutorial includes a hands-on component in which SANA-FE’s capabilities are demonstrated and used to perform system design and application mapping case studies.
