A novel routing fabric is introduced that offers high flexibility at significant lower silicon cost compared to routing fabrics currently incorporated in many fieldprogrammable Gate Array (FPGA) devices, IP cores, and IP-core wrappers. The novel fabric is entirely constructed from multiplexers and unidirectional point-to-point connections, controlled by configuration bits, and proves very efficient when mapping applications. For a fabric connecting 4-input Look-Up-Tables, area savings of 60% are demonstrated when routing applications from the MCNC benchmark set.

This paper presents the simulation and analysis of an Ion-Sensitive field-Effect Transistor (ISFET)-based pH sensor designed for accurate detection of ion concentrations through variations in gate voltage. The ISFET structure replaces the conventional gate of a MOSFET with an electrolyte and titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) doping, enabling the sensing of pH levels via ion-gate dielectric interactions. In this study, potassium chloride (KCl) is used as the electrolyte, and its influence on the ISFET’s electrical behavior is systematically analyzed. The output characteristics, including the drain current (I d ) versus drain-source voltage (V ds ) under varying gate-source voltages (V gs ), are obtained using COMSOL simulation. The semiconductor and electrolyte models are meticulously coupled to ensure a realistic representation, capturing the ion-sensitive interface’s behavior. A simplified global equation technique is employed to derive critical operating parameters efficiently, without explicitly modeling the feedback circuitry. The ISFET’s performance is further evaluated by analyzing its sensitivity to pH variations and extracting relevant electrical characteristics for optimization. This work provides a comprehensive approach to simulating ISFET-based pH sensors, highlighting its potential for efficient and precise pH measurement in biochemical and industrial applications.

Early detection of forest fires is crucial to minimizing the environmental and socioeconomic damage they cause. Indeed, a fire's duration directly correlates with the difficulty and cost of extinguishing it. For instance, a fire burning for 1 minute might require 1 liter of water to extinguish, while a 2-minute fire could demand 100 liters, and a 10-minute fire might necessitate 1,000 liters. On the other hand, existing fire detection systems based on novel technologies (e.g., remote sensing, PTZ cameras, UAVs) are often expensive and require human intervention, making continuous monitoring of large areas impractical. To address this challenge, this work proposes a low-cost forest fire detection system that utilizes a central gateway device with computer vision capabilities to monitor a 360° field of view for smoke at long distances. A deep reinforcement learning agent enhances surveillance by dynamically controlling the camera's orientation, leveraging real-time sensor data (smoke levels, ambient temperature, and humidity) from distributed IoT devices. This approach enables automated wildfire monitoring across expansive areas while reducing false positives. This paper presents the complexity analysis of bit parallel multiplier in polynomial basis on FPGAs, both without and with carry logic. We directly present the Look-Up-Table (LUT) complexity and estimate the resource upper bound based on the existed gate-oriented architectures. Experimental results show that no FPGA synthesis tool reaches the estimated upper bound. Furthermore, the area optimization with fast carry logic can save additional 17% resources. The implementation results with manually mapped design on a Xilinx Virtex-4 device are reported.

As the use of FPGAs increases, the importance of highly optimized processors for FPGAs will increase. In this paper we present the microarchitecture of a soft microprocessor core optimized for the Virtex-4 architecture. The core can operate at 357 MHz, which is significantly faster than Xilinx' Microblaze architecture on the same FPGA. At this frequency it is necessary to keep the logic complexity down and this paper shows how this can be done while retaining C, sufficient functionality for a high performance processor.
