In the field of electric motor control, especially for direct current (DC) motors, speed control effectiveness is a critical aspect. Over the past years, proportional-integral (PI) controllers have been primarily responsible for controlling these machines. However, these controllers face limitations in nonlinear operating ranges, particularly at low speeds. This work addresses this issue by proposing a significant improvement through the use of an adaptive PI controller that dynamically adjusts the gains Kp and Ki through intelligent schedulers, which recalibrate these gains in response to changing motor operating conditions. Thus, this research focuses on the development and comparison of: a planner based on fuzzy logic, one employing neural networks, and a hybrid system that combines both approaches, for speed control in a direct current (DC) motor using programmed gain PI control. The algorithms for the planners were implemented in Python, using various specialized libraries. The control execution is carried out using an Arduino Nano board, chosen for its versatility and accessibility. Communication between the control system in Python and the Arduino hardware is performed through a serial connection, enabling effective integration between both software. Performance analysis is conducted using the Integral of Absolute Error (IAE) of the system response. This research reveals interesting results for control applications in industrial machinery.

The graphical programming languages described in the third part of IEC 61131 are often intended to perform open and closed loop control tasks. Continuous Function Charts (CFCs) represent an additional language accepted in practice which can be interpreted as an extension of IEC 61131-3 Function Block Diagrams. Those charts allow more flexible positioning and interconnection of function blocks, but can quickly become difficult to manage. Furthermore, the sequential execution order forces a sequential processing of possible independent and thus possibly parallel program paths. The question arises whether a translation of existing CFCs to synchronous programs considering independent actions can lead to a more manageable software model. While current formalization approaches for CFCs primarily focus on verification, the focus of this approach is on restructuring and possible reuse in engineering. This paper introduces a possible automated translation of CFCs to imperative synchronous Quartz programs and outlines the potential for reducing the states of equivalent extended finite state machines through restructuring.

Multi-valued logic (MVL) is becoming popular because it has potential to reduce area, interconnect, pin count and hence energy than binary logic. The energy efficiency and chip area of ternary circuits can be further improved by employing approximate computing principles in error-tolerant applications. This paper proposes a dynamic approximate ternary full adder that uses only 64 and 66 Carbon nanotube field effect transistors (CNTFET) by exploiting its multi-threshold capabilities through the control of diameter of its nanotubes. The circuit has low transistor count, power, delay and PDP as compared to the exact ternary adder at the cost of inaccurate Sum output for some of the input combinations. This approximate full adder may be used in the lower significant trit positions of an n-bit adder in applications which tolerate small errors without significant degradation in performance.
