Medium Voltage High Power (MVHP) applications have gained significant importance in today's industrial scenario. However, directly connecting Photovoltaic (PV) systems to MVHP systems can result in interconnection issues, which can be overcome by utilizing high-efficiency and low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) inverters. This paper explores the application of versatile inverter topologies like Diode Clamed Multilevel Inverter (DCMLI), Flying Capacitor Multilevel Inverter (FCMLI), and Cascade H-bridge Multilevel Inverter (CHBMLI) for grid Connected PV applications, to enhance efficiency and reduce THD in the system. The Multi Carrier Pulse Width Modulation (MCPWM) technique is employed to control inverter switching. The paper analyzes the performance of 3, 5, and 7-level inverters. Among the three inverters, the CHBMLI is found to have less THD and fewer components for the same output level, making it a beneficial option for PV applications, particularly when operated with separate dc sources. The paper outlines the design and simulation of these inverters in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The outcomes demonstrate that the CHBMLI topology is efficient in decreasing THD and enhancing efficiency in PV applications under steady-state conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

Wide area power system monitoring is a developing technology that uses advanced communication networks, and data analytics to improve grid monitoring and increase overall reliability and efficiency. This paper presents a cost-effective grid monitoring testbed (GMT), a hardware testbed for wide-area power system monitoring applications. The phasor data for testing is generated using the emulated phasor measurement units (ePMU) inside the DSA Tools software. IEEE 9 bus system has been used as the test system to demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested strategy. The data from the phasor measurement unit (PMU) is sent to the SEL-3350 real time automation controller (RTAC) using the IEEE-C37.118 protocol. The algorithm under test is implemented within the RTAC controller. The controller output is then streamed to the SEL-synchrowave real-time power system monitoring software. On the hardware configuration, the algorithm for the center of inertia (COI) frequency reference, inertia distribution index (IDI), and angle difference with the COI angle as the reference is implemented. © 2023 IEEE.

The new power distribution system is an important part of building a new power system and promoting the realization of the 'double carbon' goal. The massive access of distributed power generation, distributed energy storage and new load makes the distribution system appear new features such as diversified power supply, interactive power consumption, electronic power, intelligent equipment and digital management. The industrial control technology system supports the current real-time and low-frequency local acquisition of the main network and the distribution network, but with the access of massive equipment, it gradually fails to meet the perception requirements. This paper analyzes the architecture of the Internet of Things applicable to the new distribution system based on the technical path of the State grid, China Southern Power grid and related enterprises, and integrates cloud computing, high-speed network communication, network security, big data processing and other technical applications, It has the features of supporting massive terminal device access, device self-description supporting plug and play, terminal batch remote operation and maintenance, and flexible business expansion, and can effectively support million-level concurrent and million-level terminal access and management. © 2023 IEEE.

The distributed energy supply system based on multi-energy complementarity is currently a research hotspot in the field of energy engineering, and the key issue faced by this system is operation optimization. The reasonable configuration or not directly affects the economic benefits and operational efficiency of the system. This article focuses on this key issue faced by distributed energy supply systems with multiple complementary energy sources. Taking a cultural tourism park as the research object, considering factors such as economic indicators, energy consumption, and carbon emissions, a multi-objective optimization model for distributed energy supply systems with multiple complementary energy sources is established by gradually decomposing and introducing hourly energy constraints. Experiments have shown that compared to traditional systems, this model can achieve hourly operation optimization and has good economic efficiency and energy-saving and emission-reduction benefits. Therefore, it provides a good reference and reference for the energy supply and comprehensive energy planning of multi-energy complementary distributed energy supply systems. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2023.

As the power network system continues to develop towards an increasingly complex scale, higher requirements are put forward for the implementation of power system relay protection algorithms. Fast Fourier transform (FFT), digital filter (FIR), as widely used algorithms in power systems, are the most core and complex algorithms in the field of digital signal processing (DSP), and the performance of FFT algorithms will affect the computing efficiency of the entire system. Application Specific Instruction Set Processor (ASIP) offers the advantages of customization, high performance, programmability and flexibility. In this paper, we will introduce an ASIP implementation based on RISC-V instruction set for power system relay protection applications, the processor implements the special operation instructions of FFT/IFFT, FIR and DFT algorithms customized for power application scenarios, in which FFT uses the mixed-based principle to achieve operation support from 24 points to 2048 points, and the measured data shows that there are great advantages in the number of supported points and efficiency. © 2023 IEEE.

This article analyzes the inherent mixed eccentricity of the Doubly Fed Induction Generator(DFIG) rotor caused by incomplete alignment in practical applications, and studies the impact of the inherent mixed eccentricity faults. An ideal motor model and a practical motor simulation model considering the inherent mixed eccentricity of the rotor were built using Ansoft Maxwell 2D electromagnetic field finite element analysis software. Frequency spectrum analysis was performed in currents and electromagnetic torque of two models. The simulation results show that the inherent mixed eccentricity of the rotor may cause characteristic frequencies similar to those of the rotor winding inter-turn short-circuit faults in the rotor line current and electromagnetic torque, which may lead to misdiagnosis of inter-turn short-circuit faults. © 2023 SPIE.

With the increased 5G deployments across the world, new use-cases are emerging in many new domains, such as autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart grid and potentially the proliferation of augmented reality. Some of these applications require high availability, bandwidth and/or extremely low latency that depends on the applied service. Currently the cost of deployment of distributed edge nodes and its relation to the availability of power infrastructure is not well known. In this work, we demystify the cost of edge resources by proposing a cost estimation framework by considering the various existing edge related constraints, such as power grid and edge power node infrastructure. We consider Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and Operational Expenditure (OPEX) as well as time value of money in relation to the Hardware (HW) redundancy and depreciation for edge cloud resource estimation. The cost of resources are made in relation to the local edge power infrastructure conditions for the applied services and required Service Level Agreement (SLA). The availability of application is estimated using Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) of the edge components including power and cooling systems. We propose a new method, called Smart Edge Power Management (SEPM), that includes identification of the relevant parameters and states of the edge power infrastructure and how to overcome the various edge power related constraints and to further improve the cost efficiency during operation. The performance and evaluation are made on country wide edge deployments for a mobile operator in Sweden. With our new proposed method SEPM, the cost efficiency of edge resources can be improved upto 10%.

Pipeline transport is an efficient method for transporting fluids in energy supply and other technical applications. While natural gas is the classical example, the transport of hydrogen is becoming more and more important;both are transmitted under high pressure in a gaseous state. Also relevant is the transport of carbon dioxide, captured in the places of formation, transferred under high pressure in a liquid or supercritical state and pumped into underground reservoirs for storage. The transport of other fluids is also required in technical applications. Meanwhile, the transport equations for different fluids are essentially the same, and the simulation can be performed using the same methods. In this paper, the effect of control elements such as compressors, regulators and flaptraps on the stability of fluid transport simulations is studied. It is shown that modeling of these elements can lead to instabilities, both in stationary and dynamic simulations. Special regularization methods were developed to overcome these problems. Their functionality also for dynamic simulations is demonstrated for a number of numerical experiments. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

To meet the requirements of computation intensive and latency sensitive applications, mobile edge computing (MEC) is utilized to improve quality of service, which allows user equipments (UEs) to offload urgent tasks to adjacent edge base stations (BSs) for efficient data processing. Considering the deterioration of wireless channels caused by user mobility and obstacles, this paper investigates a relay-assisted MEC system, where a relay is deployed between UE and BS with better channel condition. UE has three modes for data computing, i.e., local computing, relay-assisted offloading, and direct transmission offloading. With the aim of energy consumption minimization, an iterative and low-complexity algorithm is proposed by jointly optimizing task partition, local CPU frequency, bandwidth allocation, and power control at both UE and relay, and the closedform optimal solutions are derived. Numerical results validate that the designed algorithm outperforms static and fractional power control schemes, and the relay-assisted MEC system can significantly decrease energy consumption in comparison with that without the assistance of relay.

Artificial Neural Network teaches computers to process data like human brains. ANN uses interconnected and layered nodes or neurons that resemble a human brain. The following eight case studies are reported in this paper: (1) scheduling of tasks in cloud computing , (2) scheduling on heterogeneous platforms, (3) predictive maintenance, (4) production scheduling using ANN, (5) train rescheduling, (6) micro-grid scheduling, (7) detection of obesity, and (8) prediction of falls in older patients. In every case study, the model is described, and the operating method is explained in detail. The recursive ANN is shown to accommodate large data. Neural network employing inhibitor neurons use 50% of neurons used by regular ANN. Genetic algorithm (GA) shows good performance in train rescheduling when the data size is small and ANN performs well when the data size is large. Multi-layer perceptron (MLP) method is found to work with 97% accuracy in predicting falls in older patients. applications of each case study are highlighted to help the readers apply the right model for a particular application. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
