Steering gridapplications is needed so that they can run several days or several weeks without restarting their computation. Existing grid middleware, such as gridRPC middleware, have room for improvement in point of steering gridapplications. For instance, to manage gridRPC-related resources remains as a complicated task for programmers. And, to monitor constraint information about future server usage is a laborious task for application users. gridRPC middleware has to assist in these tasks. In this paper, we propose a framework F-Omega for these tasks. F-omega provides programmers common application modules for automatic management of gridRPC-related resources. For users, F-Omega provides an automatic visualization system for constraint information about future server usage. Experimental results show that the proposed features of F-Omega mitigate programmers' and users' burdens of the above-mentioned tasks.

Trajectory planning plays a crucial role in the execution of Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) missions. However, planning an optimal collision-free trajectory is a challenging task, especially in complex environments. To address the above issue, an enhanced Elliptical tangent graph algorithm (ETG-CPI) based on comprehensive performance indicator is proposed in the present study. In the proposed algorithm, the comprehensive performance indicator, which contains the obstacle avoidance frequency, the yaw angle and the distance from the start point to the candidate waypoint, is used to select promising waypoints. Moreover, the entropy weight method is used to integrate these performance indicators. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms four competitive path planning methods in 26 different environments. Additionally, the results indicate that the proposed comprehensive path evaluation method can help the proposed algorithm find a high-quality path in complex environments.

This paper proposes a scheme for reducing error propagation (REP) based on low-cost anchor node-based distributed localization (LADL) that are advanced localization schemes using connectivity information between nodes. Even though the localization accuracy of LADL is higher than that of previous schemes (e.g., DRLS), estimation error can be propagated when anchor node ratio is low. Thus after the initial position of each normal node is estimated by LADL. estimated position is corrected using anchor nodes located several hops away so that error propagation is reduced. The simulation results show that LADL with REP has higher localization accuracy and lower message transmission cost than DRLS. In addition, even though message transmission cost is increased, the localization accuracy of LADL with REP is higher than that of DRLS.

This paper describes a distributed meta-scheduling architecture for the DEISA grid in which site-local proxies migrate jobs between the participating sites with the aim to improve user- and administration-defined goals like job runtimes, hardware utilization, load balancing, etc. The meta-scheduler employs P2P-based algorithms to discover available resources for its local jobs and jobs for its available resources respectively and thereby achieves continued operation even in the case of network or site failures.

The 2004 internationalconference on Parallel and Distributed computing, - plications and Technologies (PDCAT 2004) was the ?fth annual conference, and was held at the Marina Mandarin Hotel, Singapore on December 8–10, 2004. Since the inaugural PDCAT held in Hong Kong in 2000, the conference has - come a major forum for scientists, engineers, and practitioners throughout the world to present the latest research, results, ideas, developments, techniques, and applications in all areas of parallel and distributed computing. The technical program was comprehensive and featured keynote speeches, te- nical paper presentations, and exhibitions showcased by industry vendors. The technical program committee was overwhelmed with submissions of papers for presentation, from countries worldwide. We received 242 papers and after - viewing them, based on stringent selection criteria, we accepted 173 papers. The papers in the proceedings focus on parallel and distributed computing viewed from the three perspectives of networking and architectures, software systems and technologies, and algorithms and applications. In computational grid, resource backup is the most important method for improving the availability of applications. It can be implemented by making advance reservation of redundant resources. But in order to make the gridapplications more cost-effective, it is absolutely necessary to devise multiple policies for resource backup in order to provide flexible resource backup services. In this paper, we give the detailed discussion of several resource backup policies, which were briefly presented in our former work, and evaluate them with a grid resource backup simulator, GReBSim, which is designed as one of the simulating tools in our grid project. The simulating results show that combination of multiple policies is quite important for trading off in resource utilization and time to recovery for failed applications.
