New power systems rely on renewable energy, smart grid operations, and market-driven mechanisms, bringing significant environmental and operational benefits. However, these advances also bring a series of security challenges, especially in terms of network vulnerabilities and potential attacks. This paper addresses these issues by proposing a lightweight Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) mechanism. The mechanism is specifically designed for the unique needs of new power systems. The proposed approach simplifies the DTLS handshake process and integrates identity-based and attribute-based encryption, eliminating the need for certificate management and reducing datagram exchanges, achieving lower communication latency and overhead. In addition, the lightweight DTLS mechanism is synergistically combined with edge computing and deployed directly on the edge devices of the power system. This approach not only promotes secure end-to-end communication but also leverages the computing and storage capabilities of edge devices to enhance the overall network security performance to adapt to the dynamic and extended characteristics of modern power systems. This study contributes to the new endpoint security architecture and demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solution in supporting a variety of power applications and strengthening the network security posture of the new power system. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In response to growing environmental concerns and the need for sustainable development, alternative energy systems have emerged as crucial solutions to the problems associated with fossil fuels. This infrastructure supports the development of new technologies and applications within the renewable energy sector, promoting continuous advancements and breakthroughs. As large language models (LLMs) become increasingly embedded in diverse applications, from natural language processing to cybersecurity, the demand for robust privacy-preserving solutions has surged. This paper discusses privacy vulnerabilities in LLMs, identifying risks at system, application, and network levels. We categorize and evaluate current privacy-preserving methods, based on homomorphic encryption (HE), trusted execution environments (TEE), and secure multi-party computation (MPC), to assess their effectiveness in mitigating data exposure while supporting LLM performance. Building on these insights, we propose a novel privacy-preserving framework for fine-tuning and inference in LLMs. Our findings highlight existing gaps and propose future directions for developing secure, efficient, and scalable privacy-preserving LLM architectures.

Multilevel inverters (MLIs) provide a major advancement for renewable energy and industrial applications. They offer superior performance compared to conventional inverters by reducing switch rating size and increasing efficiency. However, it has some drawbacks, including a complex pulse width modulation control, voltage balancing challenges, and an increased number of switches. To overcome these issues, the proposed MLI topology is modelled to minimize number of DC sources and switches while also enhancing the modularity and expanding the number of output levels. Switching pulses for five-level MLI is optimized using an Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy interference system (ANFIS) controller to produce the most effective switching signals for the proposed inverter. Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is utilized in the system to address power quality (PQ) problems, including harmonics, voltage swells, and voltage sags. The findings show that the ANFIS controller produces a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of 1.66%, while the fuzzy controller results in a THD of 6.54%.

With the development of power grid operations, the need for advanced natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyze and manage vast amounts of data has become increasingly critical. However, the sparsity and complexity of power grid operations data pose challenges for general large- scale language models (LLMs) to effectively perform analysis tasks. Additionally, the general LLMs, which lack of professional knowledge in the power grid operations domain, produce highly irregular and ineffective solutions. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an efficient fine-tuning method Pgrid-Align, which contains two stages. In stage one, the pre-processing method based on prompt engineering is introduced to handle sparse professional data. This method uses prompts with classification identifiers to summarize and organize sparse power grid operations data, helping general LLMs understand the special data structure and complete analysis tasks. In stage two, an efficient fine-tuning method for power grid data is introduced. This method references the classification identifiers from stage one and performs knowledge-level QLoRA fine-tuning on the LLM, improving its logical alignment. To demonstrate the effectiveness of Pgrid-Align, this paper designs analysis tasks using sparse power grid operations data. The experiment results show that LLMs fine-tuned with Pgrid-Align can complete the analysis tasks in a standardized manner and high accuracy, reflecting its effectiveness and potential for real-world power grid applications.

The guaranteed delivery of all messages in the order sent, is the backbone for the Internet and other networking applications. In time-critical applications, however, this form of reliability hinders performance. In some instances, being able to select different forms of reliability defined by a mix of data delivery attributes is more optimal. To achieve this objective, we will look at the ideals behind the Laminar networking package, which allows a more selective mix of reliability and ordering to be associated with the data. To achieve the decarbonisation of the transport sector, a mass roll-out of electric vehicles (EVs) is crucial. Transport decarbonisation, however, poses significant pressure on the existing electrical grid to meet the peak demand of charging these electric vehicles. The concept of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) will aid the entire power grid through various applications, including vehicle-to-home (V2H), vehicle-to-building (V2B), vehicle-to-load (V2L), vehicle-to-grid (V2G), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V). V2X technology allows electric vehicles to interact with the power grid and other devices, providing flexibility and support to the energy infrastructure. This paper presents a brief review of the benefits and barriers of V2X deployment, as well as the challenges and potential solutions related to human factors in its implementation. In addition, the benefits of V2G to the UK electricity market are discussed. By examining these aspects, this paper aims to provide insights into how V2X can be effectively integrated into the energy and transport sectors to support sustainable development and reduce carbon emissions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This study conducted an in-depth discussion on the intelligent scheduling and optimization algorithm of mobile nursing. By constructing an optimization model for cost minimization and resource maximization utilization, combined with heuristic algorithms, the scheduling efficiency and resource utilization were significantly improved. Specifically, through strategies such as parameter tuning, heuristic improvement, and parallel computing, the optimized algorithm performs well in key indicators such as cost control, resource consumption, and task completion time. Experimental results show that the optimized algorithm can maintain good performance under different task loads, especially under high load conditions. Through real data set testing, the robustness and broad applicability of the algorithm are verified. This research not only improves the efficiency of the mobile nursing system and provides solid technical support for practical applications, but also provides valuable theoretical foundation and practical experience for the further optimization and application of intelligent scheduling algorithms.

During the last two decades, interest in grid integrated renewable energy sources (RERs) into the electrical power grids has significantly grown. The motive being a promising strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by conventional power plants (CPPs) and hence environmental consequences, decrease losses in distribution lines to improve power system supply efficiency and reliability to consumers. As a result, several CPPs are being replaced by RERs such as solar PV system, wind energy, micro hydro-turbine, fuel cell, and small gas power plants. These are installed close to customers on low-voltage and medium-voltage sites to reduce losses in the network and improve power quality, overall efficiency and reliability. However, grid-connected RERs via inverter decreases system inertia due to decrease in CPPs with rotating mass serving as an immediate natural response to frequency deviations following network disturbances. Therefore, this paper presents the design of dynamic virtual-inertia control (DVIC) scheme. The developed DVIC incorporates the mechanism to adjust active and reactive demand in response to any frequency and voltage variations to ensure system stability. To validate the suitability of the presented technique, MATLAB/Simulink model is developed and simulated under various operating scenarios. Using the results obtained simulation study, it is evidently the proposed DVIC shows improved performance is achieved than when no inertia control system applied.

Accurate forecasting of household electricity consumpation used for is crutial for demand management and smart grid operations. This study employs a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network to predict electricity usage using four years of high-resolution energy data, including variables such as active and reactive power, voltage, and sub-metering values. preprocessing methods such as data smoothing, stationarity adjustments, and time-based feature extraction, was conducted to enhance model performance. The model demonstrated remarkable results with a training Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.0074, Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.0102, and R 2 of 0.9999, alongside a testing MAE of 0.0092, MSE of 0.0123, and R 2 of 0.9998. These results demonstrate the model’s ability to accurately capture complex consumption patterns and provide reliable forecasts for energy management applications
