Main characteristics of large-scale, geographically distributedgrid systems are resource heterogeneity and network latency. In this paper, we use queuing network models to analyze data-parallel grid applications and we show the effects of resource heterogeneity, communications delays, network bandwidths and synchronization overheads on the application-level performance. The proposed models rely on the statistical pattern of computation, communication, and I/O operations in the parallel applications, as well as on measurable infrastructure characteristics. We finally show how the high variability in the execution and communication times must be considered when modeling applications on geographically distributedgrid infrastructures.

This paper explores the feasibility of solving power flow using gridcomputing technology in a WAN (wide-area networks) based distributed environment. The formulation of distributed power flow calculation as well as the corresponding algorithms is proposed, which fully consider the inherently distributed nature of power systems and the reluctance of data exchange in a competitive market. A prototype grid is built to implement the distributed algorithm. Power flows of three systems with different scales are calculated to verify the convergence of the algorithm and test the performance of the gridcomputing environment.

Nowadays, the process of data mining is one of the most important topics in scientific and business problems. gridcomputing can be used as infrastructures to provide an effective computational support for distributed data mining applications. The paper proposed a data mining architecture from large-scale distributed and semantically heterogeneous data resources in order to efficiently support knowledge acquisition. grid technology and semantic web technology were combined to solve the difficult problem of distributed data mining. Data mining in the grid environment can provide highly efficient and powerful data analysis and knowledge discovery solution and semantic web can effectively solve the heterogeneity of data sources and make them available for data mining.

This paper proposes an ontology-based grid architecture model in terms of the Universal Knowledge grid (UKG) for building large-scale distributed knowledge system on the grid UKG emphasizes geographically distributed high-performance knowledge discovery applications and knowledge integration services. Five core components have been identified: an intelligent composer for user interface, an ontology server providing data integration ontology services, data mining ontology services, knowledge integration ontology services, a metadata directory server maintaining the metadata describing all the data, tools and knowledge, metadata database (db) stores metadata and a knowledge base as container for knowledge. An application example on Foreign Exchange Management (FEM) is also presented.

Micro grid is a limited distributed AC or DC network here the distributed generating resources are connected to the distributed linear as well as nonlinear loads through power electronics converter to provide more reliable and quality power to the distributed loads. Micro grid capable of optimize capital resources by minimizing operations and maintaining costs. Thus makes full use of low cost generation resources and reduce waste. Micro grid is necessary to operate in both interconnected mode and standalone mode. Interconnected Mode is the MG is connected to National grid either being supplied by it or injecting some amount of power into the main system. Islanding Mode is the MG operates separately when the disconnection from the upstream Mega Volt occurs in main grid network. Usage of power electronic interface converters and non linear loads results in harmonics generation, which leads to power quality issues. Most of intensive users of electricity are suffering to a certain poor quality of electrical power. The excellent time-frequency resolution characteristic of FFT is used for detection of various power quality disturbances Micro grid connected distributed Generation systems. The FFT plays important role in analysis, design and implementation of discrete signal processing.

By means of introducing multi-auctioneer model, resources in the computational economic grid can be managed and allocated like in the auction. We research and put forward the corresponding solve schemes of three key issues of auctioneer system: preventing auctioneer from cheating, selection of auctioneer, setting of trading prices, and use computational grid modeling and simulation tools gridSim to simulate computational grid environment in the experiment which uses multiauctioneer system to manage and schedule, then we analyze the results of experiment in different conditions, and validate the feasibility of a multi-auctioneer system in computational grid.

A wide variety of grid technologies have already been researched and developed with the main aim of implementing high-performance computing. Even the major vendors are actively researching and developing grid technology, and have brought out numerous systems and software products. The grid allows distributed environments to be constructed on a global scale through the use of large numbers of computers. In fact numerous grids have already been constructed on a global scale and are being used in practice as the infrastructure for distributed processing environments. Meanwhile, studies have also been conducted with the aim of using the grid infrastructure as a ubiquitous distributed processing environment. However, grid middleware has chiefly been developed in order to implement high-performance computing, so in order to use it in a ubiquitous environment it would be necessary to investigate the functions that ubiquitous environments would need to have from the viewpoint of grid middleware. In this study we will outline the latest research trends where the grid is used as a ubiquitous environment, particularly with regard to the points of intersection between the grid and the ubiquitous environment, and we will investigate the functions needed when applying ubiquitous environments to grid middleware.

Utilizing desktop grid infrastructures is challenging for parallel discrete event simulation (PDES) codes due to characteristics such as inter-process messaging, restricted execution, and overall lower concurrency than typical volunteer computing projects. The Aurora2 system uses an approach that simultaneously provides both replicated execution support and scalable performance of PDES applications through public resource computing. This is accomplished through a multi-threaded distributed back-end system, low overhead communications middleware, and an efficient client implementation. This paper describes the Aurora2 architecture and issues pertinent to PDES executions in a desktop grid environment that must be addressed when distributing back-end services across multiple machines. We quantify improvement over the first generation Aurora system through a comparative performance study detailing PDES programs with various scalability characteristics for execution over desktop grids.

This paper deals with the implementation on the grid' 5000 network, the French grid platform, of parallel simulations for the solution of a 3D coupled boundary value problem of continuous flow electrophoresis which is governed by Navier Stokes equations coupled with convection-diffusion and potential equations. The coupled boundary value problems are discretized by appropriate schemes involving the convergence of the parallel synchronous and asynchronous Schwarz alternating algorithms. Finally, parallel experiments on gridcomputing are presented and analysed.
