Large scale loosely coupled PCs can organize clusters and form the gridcomputing on sharing each processing power;power of PCs and code migration characterize the performance of distributed systems. This paper describes the performance evaluation of large scale loosely coupled distributed systems. The prototype of the middleware which migrates objects for computing is implemented, and the trade-off of the migration against computing was observed. Based on these experiments, several simulations for large scale loosely coupled PC clusters were performed, and the properties of the PC clusters for object migration are derived. These results will well be applied to design the gridcomputing systems to continuously maintain the proper performance.

Debugging parallel programs is one of the most tedious jobs in programming scalable multiprocessor architectures. Due to the distributed resources of these machines, programming is often architecture dependent. Most development tools still reflect this dependency even during the analysis phase of parallel programs. This paper presents the distributed debugger DETOP, which offers a global name space and hides architectural features like the mapping of processes. DETOP is part of the integrated tool environment TOPSYS implemented on IPSC hypercubes, networks of SPARCstations and partly on Transputer and PowerPC based systems.

The grid vision promises the secure and dynamic sharing of heterogeneous resources across the Internet. To date the emphasis has been on supercomputing scenarios where a relatively long-running job is submitted to the grid, requiring little interaction with the end user. More recently, with the emerging aspirations of grid aficionados to use it for a much wider range of purposes e-commerce and inter-enterprise computing for example the issue of using the grid for distributed, highly interactive applications has been raised. In our case this has emerged within a project seeking to build a European Learning grid Infrastructure (ELeG1). distributed Learning Environments need to be engaging and responsive, and as such it is important that, in addition to the dynamic resource sharing, service-oriented model offered by the grid, that it can also meet the responsiveness needs of end users. In this paper we extend earlier work on analysing delay in distributed interactive applications to investigate the performance of the foremost grid toolkit, Globus, in the context of distributed learning.

With the evolvement of grid applications, the need for user controlled network infrastructure is apparent for user controlled network infrastructure is apparent in order to support emerging dynamic and interactive services. In this paper, a novel fast light-path set-up protocol, named forward reserve backward release protocol, is proposed to meet these requirements. The proposed protocol addresses the signaling over head for dynamic wavelength networks in a distributed way. It can quickly set up a light-path. In this paper, a distributed energy grid control method based on collaborative consensus algorithm is proposed. Faced with the problem of insufficient control ability of independent power grid, multiple system control objectives are optimized. Moreover, according to the research goal of the consistency algorithm, the Pareto solution of the micro-grid control system is obtained. In addition, the optimized topology includes many categories, corresponding to different optimization goals respectively. Meanwhile, according to the micro-grid power control and voltage recovery studied in this paper, the ring network topology has obvious advantages. Through the simulation results, compared with other topologies, the ring topology has obvious advantages in both convergence and delay robustness, which proves its effectiveness. In this paper, we describe a problem solving environment (PSE) for gridcomputing called NAREGI-PSE in the NAREGI (National Research grid Initiative) project, conducted by MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) of Japan. NAREGI-PSE is researched and developed to support the scientists' works for scientific computer simulations on distributedgrid computers. NAREGIPSE tells users which computers are available and appropriate for their specific application simulation programs by using the hardware and software information specified, when the users access and use distributed high-performance computers for scientific simulations. The simulation programs are plugged and pooled in the NAREGI-PSE application pool in order to enhance their re-usability and to share the knowledge (applications and their information) for real-time collaborations in research communities on VOs (virtual organizations).

Parameter studies, genetic algorithms and Monte Carlo type calculations are examples of pleasantly parallel computational tasks. Pleasantly parallel computational tasks can be effectively calculated in computer clusters or grids. In this work, we consider a weight minimization problem of a laminated composite structure in the post-buckling region. The design variables are the number of layers and the layer orientations given in a discrete set of allowable angles for layer orientations. Optimization is carried out using a deterministic search process, where the lay-up configurations are generated iteratively in the design space from the selected design points of the population at the preceding cycle. Computation is performed using Nordugridgridcomputing platform. In this work, we briefly go through some general grid concepts and the use of grid in optimization of laminated composite structures.
