The next generation of scientific experiments and studies, popularly called e-Science, is carried out by large collaborations of researchers distributed around the world engaged in the analysis of huge collections of data generated by scientific instruments. gridcomputing has emerged as an enabler for e-Science as it permits the creation of virtual organizations that bring together communities with common objectives. Within a community, data collections are stored or replicated on distributed resources to enhance storage capability or the efficiency of access. In such an environment, scientists need to have the ability to carry out their studies by transparently accessing distributed data and computational resources. In this paper, we propose and develop a grid broker that mediates access to distributed resources by: (a) discovering suitable data and computational resources sources for a given analysis scenario;(b) optimally mapping analysis jobs to resources;(c) deploying and monitoring job execution on selected resources;(d) accessing data from local or remote data sources during job execution;and (e) collating and presenting results. The broker supports a declarative and dynamic parametric programming model for creating grid applications. We have used this model in grid-enabling a high-energy physics analysis application (the Belle Analysis Software Framework). The broker has been used in deploying Belle experimental data analysis jobs on a grid testbed, called the Belle Analysis Data grid, having resources distributed across Australia interconnected through GrangeNet. grid resource management is regarded as an important component of a gridcomputing system. The resources in the grid are geographically distributed, heterogeneous in nature, owned by different individuals/organizations each having their own resource management policies and different access-and-cost models. Based on Abstract Owner model, this article proposes a new resource storage model called resource pool which couples geographically distributed resource together. Meanwhile, this paper uses queuing and global optimization theory as tools to emphasize on quantitative analysis for resource pool capacity. Consequently, some new analytic formula for practical computation is obtained. Furthermore, an algorithm for analytic formulas is introduced into global optimization to evaluate the performance.

The ongoing energy transition is driving the transformation of the traditional centralized electric system into a decentralized one, integrating distributed energy resources (DERs) along the grid. This paper presents a digital hierarchical Energy Management System (EMS) for integrating distributed energy storage systems in these decentralized Smart grids. This EMS is deployed in an Edge-Cloud architecture and has been validated in a test bench for a self-consumption case study. The proposed work obtained a self-consumption level of 100% and significant increases in self-sufficiency levels and electricity bill savings. The hierarchical and digitalized control of a DER has been successfully validated, allowing the optimal integration of DERs and fostering their participation in grid services. The aggregation of these DERs can provide the increasing distribution grid flexibility requirements, thanks to the scalability and interoperability characteristics of the presented architecture, opening the participation into new flexibility energy markets and the path to a more resilient and reliable grid.

This paper introduces CM-RETS, a 4-Level address Communication Model designed specifically for real-time simulation of electromagnetic transients in power systems. CM-RETS incorporates a unique 4-Level address scheme and leverages Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technology to enable efficient and reliable data exchanges between computing nodes in a distributed system. By effectively distributing computational load, CM-RETS facilitates faster and more realistic simulations, ensuring precise and timely data exchanges within a 5 mu s time step to capture transients in real time. Experimental results validate the effectiveness and efficiency of CM-RETS in achieving accurate and real-time simulations of electromagnetic transients. With its robust and cost-effective solution, CM-RETS provides researchers and engineers with the means to perform detailed analysis and studies on power systems under various transient conditions.

By leveraging economic principles, we present the conception about the supply and demand balance of grid resources, and propose a price-adjusting mechanism. The mechanism focuses on adjusting the unreasonable prices of both isolated resources and dependent resources, so as to achieve equilibrium prices and promote the global balance of the supply and demand.

We describe and evaluate a set of protocols that implement a distributed, decentralized desktop grid. Incoming jobs are matched with system nodes through proximity in an N-dimensional resource space. This work improves on prior work by (1) efficiently accommodating node and job characterizations that include both continuous and categorical resource types, and (2) scaling gracefully to large system sizes even with highly non-uniform distributions of job and node types. We use extensive simulation results to show that the resulting system handles both continuous and categorical constraints efficiently, and that the new scalability techniques are effective.

As an application of large scale distributed network computing system, RAM grid tries to solve the problem of memory resource sharing and utilization. Due to the special properties of memory, traditional resource information management approaches cannot be adapted easily. This paper proposes a clustering based resource aggregating scheme under the background of RAM grid, which can reduce the scale of resource information management efficiently. With analogy to the force field and potential energy theory in physics, the basic model, the force field-potential energy model, and the corresponding distributed algorithms are proposed, respectively. The model and algorithms are also evaluated by real network topologies based simulation.

Currently, grid applications arc developed for a network offering only a best effort packet delivery set-vice. Nevertheless, High Performance computing applications with Quality of Service requirements stress the capabilities of the interconnecting network of the target grid infrastructure. Therefore the application runtime environment must interact, through a grid Resource Broker, with a Network Resource Manager to obtain information about the network and to reserve network resources among the computational resources that will host the execution of applications. The paper presents the design and the development of a grid Network-Aware Resource Broker. It enhances the features of a grid Resource Broker with the capabilities provided by a Network Resource Manager. The innovative contribution of the presented integration is the possibility to design and implement new mapping/scheduling mechanisms to take into account both network and computational resources.
