We describe a distributed architecture for the provision of seamless and responsive mobile multimedia services. The architecture allows mobile applications to use concurrently all the wireless Network Interface Cards (NICs) a mobile terminal is equipped with. In particular, it enables the transmission of each datagram through the “most suitable” NIC among those available. We term this operating mode Always Best Packet Switching (ABPS). The ABPS architecture exploits a fixed proxy server, which acts as a relay for the mobile node and enables communications regardless of possible firewalls/NATs, together with a proxy client in the mobile node, responsible for maintaining a multi-path tunnel with the fixed proxy server. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our approach.

User-centric services present a new paradigm in next generation networks. The ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) is an access-independent ip based service control architecture proposing a new platform for user-centric services. Security and data privacy aspects observe a lot of attention in the IMS global objectives. Besides the authentication solutions proposed by the third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), research contributions consider authentication protocols and mechanisms to enforce the security and to enhance users' access personalization for IMS based services. Performance is an important factor to be considered when designing authentication protocols. In this paper we use Open BCMP queuing network as a mathematical model to evaluate the performance of an authentication method aiming to personalize each user access. We also propose an algorithm based on clustering to improve the performance of the authentication solution. Through BCMP modeling, we present and analyze the performance of the proposed authentication solution as a first step, and then we show the performance improvement of this solution when applying the clustering algorithm.

Mobile Internet has rapidly evolved in the past years with an ever increasing number of novel technologies and services with a variety of access technologies. Indeed, today's mobile devices often support multiple communication technologies for accessing Internet services. However, they all do not tap the full potential of these capabilities, as users often have to manually select each network, and only one network is used at a time. The concept of Always Best Connected (ABC) allows a person to connect applications using the devices and access technologies that best suit to his or her needs, thereby combining the features of access technologies to provide an enhanced user experience for future Internet. One of the key features for ABC in a heterogeneous network environment is the ability to make vertical handovers. These handovers are ones where the existing connection is changed from one technology to another. This handover has been considered to be complex and to generate a number of *** the resent years there have been techniques and standards to overcome the difficulties with vertical handovers. In this research the user equipment requirements of the most significant standards are examined and specification popularity in academic world and commercially is discussed. In addition, the performance of vertical handover with Android-based implementation is examined in real-life heterogeneous network environment. The presented standards are: Voice Call Continuity based on ip multimedia subsystem, Unlicensed Mobile Access, Media Independent Handover and The Third Generation Partnership Project Evolved Packet System. The research will show that existing mobile platforms such as Android environment is lacking some of the key requirements for vertical handover and current implementations cannot achieve seamless mobility by means that are currently defined by specifications.

A novel ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) framework with cloud computing architecture is proposed for use in highquality multimedia applications. The IMS supports heterogeneous networking with Quality-of-Service (QoS) policy. MapReduce analysis is also used to enhance cloud computing capability. This architecture enables users to access high-quality multimedia applications via Android-based appliances. In this study, the IMS QoS policies of three wireless access technologies, 3G, WiFi and WiMAX, are integrated in a cloud computing environment to provide different services such as Voip services and video streaming services. Experimental results indicate that the proposed mechanism improves system performance by allocating resources according to service priority. The proposed architecture also significantly improves system capacity to accommodate numerous users. © 2011 IEEE.

The ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) was defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Projects (3GPP and 3GPP2), ip multimedia subsystem represents nowadays the global Service Delivery Platform (SDP) standard for providing multimedia applications in Next Generation Networks (NGN). The convergence of telecom and Internet are yet to be matured enough to effectively solve the major challenges, like quality of service, different kinds of charging, and security. ip multimedia subsystems (IMS) techniques are one of the strong contenders to solve the above problems by proposing overlay network architecture. In this paper an IMS design architectures was developed and a mobil client was integrated to the IMS architecture. Simulation system was implemented using "Open IMS core" and as a IMS client a java application running on cell phone. An evaluation performance of IMS client is presented. Our proposal defines an overlay service architecture that merges the paradigms and technologies of the Internet with the cellular and fixed telecommunication worlds. The architecture enables the efficient provision of an open set of potentially highly integrated multimedia services, combining web browsing, email, instant messaging, presence, Voip, video conferencing, application sharing, telephony, unified messaging, multimedia content delivery, etc. on top of possibly different network technologies.

Cognitive Radio (CR) is an innovative wireless sensing technology which can improve efficiency of spectrum usage. Based on CR, Cognitive network (CN) further focus on end-to-end communications for the global optimization and policy enforcement. However, there is a lack of global control channel or middleware for cognitive optimization in CN environment. In this paper, we proposed a Cognitive ip multimedia subsystem framework called CogIMS, which consists of benefits from CN and ip multimedia subsystem (IMS). In this framework, the cognitive optimization is modeled as a service over IMS architecture. By adopting the proposed service-oriented framework, the global optimization is simple to achieve under standardized architecture and the computation requirement is reduced from user to core network. Finally, we simulate wireless users who using services to compare CogIMS with CN and IMS. The simulation results show that the proposed CogIMS can achieve the optimization of wireless resource allocation with different network situations.

This paper describes the architecture of an ip Gateway system implementing various enhancements to enable efficient and transparent use of standard multimedia and data ipv6 applications over strongly varying and bandwidth-limited wireless links such as HF radio. Three optimizations are proposed: (a) an HF-oriented Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) to improve the Quality of Service (QoS) of TCP/ip applications (b) Robust Header Compression (RoHC) of headers and (c) Joint Quality of Service and retransmissions management. Performance results obtained in real HF conditions are also presented in this article.

ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) offers a framework which enables the provisioning of multimedia services with Quality of Service (QoS) and mobility support across heterogeneous networks. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, to present a new fuzzy logic based Sender Bitrate (SBR) adaptation scheme at pre-encoding stage that is Quality of Experience (QoE) driven for video applications. The scheme was tested and evaluated in the NS2 based simulation access networks of third generation Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) networks. Second, to demonstrate the implementation of the proposed adaptation scheme in our developed open Android-based IMS test bed. The test bed was developed to fully understand and manipulate the effects of network conditions on perceptual quality. The SBR adaptive scheme is evaluated in terms of the Mean Opinion Score (MOS). Extensive simulation and test bed results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptation scheme especially at UMTS bottleneck access networks where perceived video quality is most affected. The proposed scheme was responsive to available network bandwidth and congestion and adapted the SBR accordingly maintaining acceptable quality in terms of the MOS. The proposed scheme has applications in network planning and content provisioning for network/service providers.

Presence and instant messaging are the two important services offered on top of ip multimedia subsystem. Instant messages can be session based or immediate. In both cases there are some security threats like session modification, session termination, invite flooding and message flooding, etc. In this paper, a presence based solution to mitigate the effect of these attacks is proposed. Results show that the proposed solution performs well to secure the instant messaging.
