With the current limitations of network technology, jumbo frames provide a mechanism that can allow greater amount of data transfer efficiently on cables. Implementation of jumbo frames is a viable option on Gigabit Ethernet. In this research undertaking, the authors implement jumbo frames on a test-bed implemented with Windows routers and performance related metrics are measured for both ipv4 and ipv6 implementations. The results obtained in this empirical study shows that performance metrics values are different in various scenarios.

Cellular network operators have as main objectives the personalization of the offered services to their subscribers in an individual way or for groups with the same preferences. In this paper a new Personalized Recommendation System architecture based on the geographic localization of the cellular users is described over which different services or solutions can be offered. For the mechanism of the users data collection, the Cell Broadcast technology is used, forming groups of users with similar preferences according association algorithms. This system also considers different presence levels (available, busy and absent) of the cellular users as an additional decision factor for sending or not the recommendation message and using for this purpose a application server connected to IMS (ip multimedia subsystem). A feedback mechanism based on the user satisfaction degree is also considered, to improve the efficiency of the system.

ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) not only inherits the telecom advantages, but also brings several disadvantages, such as poor scalability, single point of failure, etc. Peer-toPeer (P2P) network has the advantage of scalability and robustness, but there are some difficulties in the peer management and route optimization. By reusing the mechanism of signaling control and media negotiation in IMS, P2P technology is introduced into streaming service and an IMS-based P2P streaming service system is given without any modification to original standard IMS architecture. Compared with IMS-based ipTV architecture defined by ETSI TIAPAN, several functional entities of overlay manage function (OMF), resource manage function (RMF) and digital right manage function (DRMF) are added, and the function of MCF and SCF is also extended. Based on the UE classification, the signaling flows and the QoS guarantee are described. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the advantages of the proposed architecture for solving free-rider phenomenon, serving peer selection, routing optimization and copyright infringement in P2P networks.

Ad-hoc Networks have been proposed for a variety of applications where support for real time, multimedia services may be necessary. In order to operate ad-hoc networks several protocols, for media access control, power control, routing, and transport are needed. We take a holistic approach to the problems in ad-hoc networks. We start by postulating general design principles for power control based on the effect of transmit power on various performance metrics. These are used to design a set of protocols which attempt to optimize different performance metrics, as all the metrics cannot be simultaneously optimized in general. Some of these protocols have been implemented in the Linux kernel in an architecturally appropriate manner. Extensive testing was not possible due to the limitations of the current generation of hardware, and so performance results obtained through NS2 simulations are used to illustrate the potential benefits of the power control protocols. Our work at the routing layer is motivated by the difficulty in implementing on-demand routing protocols for ad-hoc networks in, common operating systems. It provides an API and its implementation in Linux as a user-space library (ASL), which facilitates implementation of on-demand routing protocols. It has been used to implement a few routing protocols.

In order to achieve seamless handover for real-time applications in the ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) of the next-generation network,a multi-protocol combined handover mechanism is *** this work,we combine Sip (Session Initiation Protocol),FMip (Fast Mobile ipv6 Protocol) and MIH (Media Independent Handover) protocols by cross-layer design and optimize these protocols' signaling flows to improve vertical handover *** analysis and simulation result illustrate that our proposed mechanism is 1better than the original Sip and MIH combination handover mechanism in service interrupt time and packets loss aspects.

Virtualization technology is popular today for hosting Internet and cloud-based compute services. Recently, the ip Communications domain has seen the adoption of virtualization with enterprise telephony solutions being hosted in virtualized environments. A deployment scenario that is common in the ip communications domain is the virtual appliance. A virtual appliance encapsulates the ip Telephony application, such as a Voip Call/Proxy Server, and the OS software, within a virtual machine. This allows for a single physical machine to host a number of virtual appliances - each being a telephony application deployed on an OS configuration for which it has been optimized. Apart from the well known benefits of virtualization such as server consolidation and improved resource utilization, a promising capability of virtualization technology is that of live virtual machine migration. In case of failure, a live virtual appliance can be efficiently and transparently migrated to a different physical machine with minimal impact on clients using the hosted ip communication service, thereby providing high-availability and fault tolerance. This work studies the feasibility of deploying ip communications infrastructure on virtualized platforms, with high-availability and reliability as a goal. We model a real ip telephony workload to understand the performance implications of such a deployment, and the effectiveness of these high-availability mechanisms. We use quantitative methods to measure performance such as call throughput, delay and packet loss. By understanding the characteristics of ip telephony workloads, we identify specific aspects that affect performance and also identify some optimal configurations. The results presented in this work will be useful for telecommunication service providers to understand the benefits and limitations of such a deployment.

In this paper, the technique of ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) Sh interface (Diameter) is introduced. The architecture for service provision of IMS is shown. The messages and user data on the Sh interface are presented. Then the Location-Based Services (LBS) in the IMS/NGN Network of Chunghwa Telecom Labs. of Taiwan, R.O.C. are illustrated. At first, the location information is obtained by PANI Sip header for the caller and by TLS/SSL (https) to the Connectivity Session Location and Repository Function (CLF) via outbound for the callee. Next, an alternative way of it is by Sh interface to look up the related data of IMS user identity from the Home Subscriber Server (HSS). Because it is via inbound and in the IMS core network only; moreover, it is better in retrieving any specified location information regardless session case of the caller or callee. Hence it is an efficient application for the fixed User Equipment (UE).

This paper describes iRide (intelligent ride), an ip multimedia subsystem (IMS), multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), and wireless sensor network (WSN) joint application. The core contributions of iRide are: IMS and WSN architectural integration on joint data processing and signaling levels, application logic for increased road safety, and network dimensioning for scalability and performance analysis. The iRide architecture is built and prototyped using IMS standard Sip (Session Initiation Protocol) and DIAMETER signaling together with 3GPP MBMS for more efficient service handling. OPNET simulations are used to conduct network dimensioning and performance analysis. Resource management in systems such as the one presented experiences several challenges in the form of bottlenecks and multicast dynamic group sizing is used as a key technique to make resources on the downlink data plane more efficiently managed. The efficiency of the proposed model for the downlink takes on a Skellam distribution shape which is used for performance modeling.

The unprecedented explosion of mobile Internet users has shifted the computing paradigm to a new era, an ubiquitous one. This unparalleled growth against the underlying ip protocol has called for the design of the next generation Internet protocol, ipv6. Among the well-thought-over features of the protocol stands Mobile ipv6 (Mipv6) that turns the mobility functionality on. In this paper, we put forward various attack strategies envisioned to mount one of the most serious security attacks, the Denial of Service (DoS), against Mipv6. We then discuss the proposed mitigation strategies and their effectiveness in view of the threat at hand.

Internet Protocol Television (ipTV) generically designates a real time distribution service for multimedia contents over an ip network, such as the Internet. There are many advantages of ipTV over current digital or air broadcast TV signals: integration, the use of switched ip, the possibility to build home networks to share multimedia contents over different devices, the easy implementation of video on demand services and the usage of better compression standards. In order to implement this kind of service, it is extremely useful to have a system that can efficiently classify multimedia contents and users and distribute them in a customized way. This paper proposes a novel ipTV service for the distribution of personalized multimedia contents over ip networks based on the concept of content-zapping in contrast to traditional channel-zapping, that is, each system client receives a multimedia streaming that is automatically composed by the system based on the user preferences and the user will only interact by requesting a content change or marking the content as a favorite. The general functionality of the service will be described, as well as the detailed architecture of the ipTV server, the key component of the service infrastructure. The server must maintain a list of media contents residing in other systems and must keep a dynamic classification of the multimedia contents that are stored in its database. This classification is built and gradually refined based on the interactions between the clients and the multimedia contents. The system must also keep a profile of the users and their feedback to the different multimedia contents in order to build and update the users preferences. Special attention is given to the classification model, describing the general ideas that are used to automatically suggest multimedia contents to a specific user (characterized by his complete profile).
