This paper investigates the bandwidth- and latency-constrained ip mapping problem that maps a given set of ip cores onto the tiles of a mesh-based Network-on-Chip (NoC) architecture to minimize the power consumption due to inter-core communications. By examining various applications' communication characteristics shown in their communication trace graphs, two distinguishable connectivity templates are realized: the graphs with tightly coupled vertices and those with distributed vertices. Different mapping heuristics are developed for these templates: tightly coupled vertices are mapped onto tiles that are close to each other while the distributed vertices are mapped following a graph partition scheme. The proposed template-based mapping algorithm achieves on average 15% power saving compared with MOCA, a fast greedy-based algorithm. Compared with a branch-and-bound algorithm, the proposed algorithm can generate results of almost the same quality but require much less CPU time.

Emerging DSP applications have different latency, energy consumption and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. An implementation of such applications requires a large number of intellectual property (ip) cores, communicating with each other, meeting the energy and latency constraints. Network-on-Chip (NoC) architectures is able to accommodate a large number of ip cores in the same chip implementing a set of complex applications. This leads to different usage of the available buffer space in the routers of the NoC system. In this work we propose power and the systematic design of novel NOC-based architectures, which realize DSP applications. The ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) is being widely adopted as the standard service delivery architecture for Next Generation Networks. The IMS delivers rich ip-based multimedia services to end users. In order to fully utilize the potential of the IMS, the convergence of the World Wide Web and IMS capabilities is imperative. Services composed of Web 2.0 technologies and IMS based call control and multimedia capabilities are becoming popular. In this work, we focus on video service creation in the IMS, with an emphasis on user generated video content. We discuss the composition of richer video-enabled services, by converging technologies such as the IMS, Web 2.0, presence, location and social networking. We first develop a framework for video streaming over the IMS, using a Media Resource Function (MRF) and an Application Server (AS). We then demonstrate the flexibility and capabilities of our framework, by implementing rich services around video delivery which are suitable for both fixed and mobile terminals. We also provide the basis for a business model when offering these features and services. We further discuss how the video framework can be extended and made available as a web based service using REST and Parlay X APIs.

The policy and charging control function is defined as PCC (Policy and Charging Control) by 3GPP and SBBC (Service Based Bearer Control) by 3GPP2. It is valuable to establish an experimental testbed for PCC and SBBC to improve and verify the related performance. At present, we can make use of Open Source IMS (OSIMS) and UCT PCF to simulate 3GPP PCC, but there is no testbed for the policy control function of SBBC architecture. In this paper, we implement a new SBBC testbed based on 3GPP PCC Testbed, whose features show that it is closely in line with the specifications of 3GPP2. Several tests are designed to verify various performances of SBBC. The test results show that our SBBC testbed is effective to be used for researches on QoS controlling in future converged networks.

The ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) is the main component of 3G networks. It aims at the seamless provisioning of multimedia services to end-users. This paper presents a case study on multiparty multimedia game development in IMS. It first reviews the APIs and tools available for multiparty multimedia conferencing applications (e.g. games) development in IMS. It then presents the semantics of the game studied in the case and discusses the implementation architecture. The game is a revisited version of the well known capture the flag game. We have developed it with the Ericsson Service Development Studio (SDS) and implemented a prototype. The prototype is described along with the performance measurements. The lessons learned are presented.
