The ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) is a network functional architecture that is seen as a promising solution for facilitating multimedia service creation and deployment, as well as supporting interoperability and network convergence. The aim of this paper is to present the overall IMS architecture and protocols, as well as the related stakes. Section 2 deals with IMS architecture and ip services. Section 3 gives some developed applications and elucidates push technology and why it has been used in developing mobile email application. The final section presents an outline and the structure of developed Push email application.

The ip multimedia subsystem is a basis for a significant new architecture which offers network operators the opportunity to expand their services, integrating voice and multimedia communications and delivering them into new environments with new purposes. The IMS is an overlay network on top of ip that uses Sip as the primary signaling mechanism. Using IMS bears several new security challenges. In this paper we provide an overview of IMS and its architecture. Then we represent a secure model to overcome some of IMS security challenges.

ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) is an open architecture to provide multimedia service based on ip network, it has already been widely accepted as the core of next generation network (NGN). As IMS has the feature of ip-based and independence of access technology, in fixed-line access environments, P-CSCF will be directly exposed to UEs, which brings security challenges for IMS compared with the traditional telecommunication network. This paper gives a detailed analysis of fixed-line access security problems in IMS, and gives a solution of countermeasure, a new entities of ASCF and a new reference point of Gm' are defined, which enhance the fixed-line access security for IMS in both signaling and media level.

This paper presents an ipTV service architecture using Session Initiation Protocol (Sip) for session and media control and based on the ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) concept. The proposed ipTV architecture is suitable for scalable converged networks, like flexible multimedia delivery of personalized streams over a variety of channels and networking infrastructures, including mobile networks. A new Quality of Service (QoS) adaptation method allows dynamic updates of session parameters, in order to maximize the Quality of Experience (QoE) and turning the solution suitable for live multimedia streaming, independently of the cast mode (unicast or multicast). The details of both the ipTV Application Server and the ipTV Client prototypical implementations are described, as well as the results of field tests carried out across different Fixed and Mobile access networks.

The Short Message Service (SMS) is one of the most successful service in 3GPP and 3GPP2 cellular networks. Any emerging cellular technologies like LTE have to support this basic tele-service. Operators migrating from existing 3GPP or 3GPP2 networks to new cellular technology like Long Term Evolution (LTE) have to support existing 3GPP or 3GPP2 as overlay networks until the entire network is completely migrated to new technology. This will be a bigger challenge for the operator to make sure common services like SM seamlessly work across different networks. As part of the 3G and 4G technology evolution and All ip Network (AipN) architecture, the SM service is also extended to non-cellular ip Connectivity Access Networks (ip-CANs). This technical paper describes the NextGen Short Message Gateway (NSMG) architecture, which can support SMS over cellular, non-cellular generic ip networks and interworking between the different messaging methods used in different networks.

ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) is considered as the main solution to the next generation multimedia *** examining potential security threats to IMS, we initiate a set of security policies for choice and consider their quality of protection (QoP) based on the strength of the security mechanism. In order to provide secure service to users, it is insufficient to just take the security benefits into consideration. An adequate analysis of the impact of security policies in IMS on the performance quantitatively is necessary and significant. We present a novel study of IMS performance using queuing Petri nets (QPN) to predict the system performance metrics, i.e., the signaling delay, server utilization, which then be used to evaluate the impacts of different security mechanism on system performance quantitatively. With the multi-view security partition introduced, multi-level security service can be provided to diverse users and applications for a best tradeoff between security requirements and system performance.

Regenerative satellites with on-board packet processing can provide full-mesh, single-hop connectivity between two or among many terminals without requiring a terrestrial Hub for traffic routing and control. By implementing resource allocation and packet replication in the payload, these satellites can extend the single-hop benefits to a multi-site, real-time collaborative environment. This paper summarizes the key features of the ETSI and TIA Regenerative Satellite Mesh A (RSM-A) standards and enumerates the capabilities of a pioneering implementation, the Hughes SPACEWAY 3 satellite system, which was launched into commercial service over North America in April 2008. Capabilities such as spot beam forming, dynamic satellite communication hardware to beam mapping, and adaptive resource control enable a responsive transport system for inelastic packet streams associated with high data-rate video and audio traffic for real-time interactions. It also describes an ip multicasting architecture over RSM-A, aligned with H.323 and Sip standards, for managing real-time, point-to-point and multiparty video conferencing applications.

Next Generation Network (NGN) research initially focused on access network convergence by harmonizing the session control plane, giving birth to the ip multimedia subsystem (IMS). Shortly after, the focus shifted towards the NGN service plane, generating versatile and flexible IMS-based service delivery platforms which predominantly are designed according to service oriented architecture (SOA) principles. These NGN service environments usually comprise a multitude of service enablers that allow for dynamic service compositions. This work focuses on manageability aspects of NGN service composition, investigating active monitoring mechanisms for root cause analysis. It will quantify the improvements brought by service dependency information into the fault localization and fault recovery process. NGN testbed evaluations furthermore analyze the impact of different monitoring policies on the overall fault management performance.

The ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is the architecture merging the Internet and mobile worlds. The IMS enables new business models and allows third-party developers to make their applications available to all IMS users. This paper introduces an IMS testbed called ImsInnovation, which was launched in Summer 2008. The objective of the testbed project is to ease the development of new third-party applications for the IMS. As part of this project we provide Web developers with Java APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that exploit the functionality of the IMS both for the Java Mobile Edition (ME) and the Java Enterprise Edition (EE). The provided APIs are based on existing Sip and IMS Java Specification Requests defined by the Java Community Process (JCP). In this paper we also discuss our experiences from the testbed project and describe a couple of applications deployed in the testbed.
