In virtue of providing various types of multimedia services among different kinds of access networks, IMS is considered as the core network for future Newt Generation Networks. For detecting the requested services quickly and efficiently, it is necessary for IMS to adopt a valid Service Discovery function. In this paper, we propose an optimal model of Service Discovery architecture based on IMS to support a universal Service Discovery function independent of any specific network access technology. The optimal model analyses are studied by mathematical modeling, theoretical analyses, and numerical simulations.

The growing demand for wireless and mobile services has set the recent research sights on mobility support and QoS provisioning for next generation ipv6 networks. To provide seamless communications for such networks, Fast Mobile ipv6 (FMipv6) and Hierarchical Mobile ipv6 (HMipv6) has been proposed. Moreover, 3GPP has introduced ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) as the next generation I P based infrastructure for multimedia services convergence. In this paper, to Improve Mobile IMS-ipv6 Handover Latency and QoS Provisioning we present two context transfer scheme, predictive and reactive, to negotiate QoS parameters and reserve resources along the handover. The proposed schemes improve the service quality. The performances of the proposed mechanisms are evaluated by analysis.

As a result of the evolution of computer and networking technologies, the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has proposed the ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) as a key element in Next Generation Networks (NGN) that supports multimedia services in the packet switched domain. To use IMS services, users should register in IMS network and to have their information be registered in IMS Databases. When transport media is mobile and user handover in the access network, the re-registeration procedure is needed. This is similar to initial register procedure and leads to excessive transmission delay. In this paper a solution is introduced to reduce the re-registration delay by reducing the number of required contacts with IMS Databases. We have compared re-registration time in our proposed scheme with the standard scheme in OPNET modeler 10.5. Simulation results have confirmed better performance for the proposed scheme.

This paper describes how Next Generation Network and IT multimediasubsystem services provided by Telco networks as well as testbeds and testbed federations can be used in a modular fashion to compose high level multimedia services. The ipmultimediasubsystem, specified by the 3rd Generation Partnership Projects (3GPP and 3GPP2), was developed to address Next Generation Network convergence challenges and end-user requirements. As an all-ip overlay network architecture, it aims at providing a platform for provisioning services in a secure and controllable manner, merging the paradigms and technologies of the Internet with the cellular and fixed telecommunication worlds and was also adopted for the Next Generation Network architecture of ETSI TISPAN. In this paper we will outline the requirements on service description, service discovery and service orchestration in Next Generation Networks and distributed testbed environments. We will further describe how to make use of service building blocks to expose network functionalities towards higher service abstraction layers. We will finally display our findings in the light of the Open SOA Telco Playground, one of the Fraunhofer FOKUS testbeds that represents today a first approach to the practical implementation of the ideas described.

As both consumer and corporate users are by now used to access services, even communications services through the web and web-based communities and social networks, it is key for success of IMS-based services to be provided with efficient web access, so users can benefit from those new services by using web-based applications and user interfaces, not only IMS User Equipments and Sip protocol. HP CMS has developed the Mobile Personal Community Broadcasting (MPCB) Service, an IMS / Web 2.0 Live Group Video Share application that is an example of IMS video solution with strong Web 2.0 integration. The efficient integration of IMS and SOA architectures will be essential to achieve the desired goals. Both Parlay-X standard WSDL should be supported as well as innovative Web 2.0 web services SDK. Conventional network services operate like silos in that a specific set of services are offered over a specific type of access network. As access networks evolve to provide ip-based packet access, it becomes attractive to break these "service silos" by offering a converged set of ip-bascd services to users who may access these services using a number of alternative access networks. This trend has started with 3d generation cellular mobile networks, which have standardized on the use of the ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) to manage user access to a wide variety of multimedia services over the mobile Internet, while facilitating interworking of heterogeneous wireless and landline access networks. Flexible charging and QoS provisioning are two of the main motivations behind the ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS), defined by 3GPP. We have previously proposed a call differentiation solution for 3G networks. This solution defines different grades of calls with different QoS profiles, and uses a preemptive approach to give priority to more important calls over others. This idea of multi-grade services enables the users to choose the appropriate grade of call for each of their sessions, depending on the priorities/guarantees they require. A suitable charging model is needed for the effective charging and billing of such services. In this paper, we focus on the charging aspects of multi-grade IMS services. The IMS online and offline charging mechanisms are leveraged and extended to tackle this issue. Furthermore, a proof-of-concept prototype, showcasing different multi-grade service charging scenarios, is presented.

Today's mobile satellite systems are built to support a packet switched all ip communications infrastructure based on ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) leveraging the benefits of solutions already available in terrestrial networks. IMS technology provides a Sip based open platform that enables operators to introduce multimediaapplications quickly and in a cost effective manner. Although IMS is very well suited for terrestrial ip networks, it is challenged by high propagation delay satellite environment with low data rates to provide equivalent levels of quality of experience enjoyed by subscribers of circuit switched systems. In this article, we first provide an overview of Circuit Switched and IMS Packet Switched based call flows for mobile satellite systems. We then concentrate specifically on voice call setup time and show how Circuit Switched architecture provides significantly better performance. Lastly, we propose several advancements on Sip call signaling to improve the IMS Packet Switched call setup times.
