Composing learning material for online education and ensuring quality of delivery (low latency and high bandwidth) is a challenge to researchers in e-learning. The problem is compounded when the computing platforms are heterogeneous. Besides, e-learning as an application presents a highly fluctuating load to the underlying ipmultimediasubsystem. Viewed in this light, it appears that an e-learning system with inherent abilities to integrate various multimedia elements that can adapt its output to suit network parameters is the need of the hour. In this paper, we propose a new architecture for the e-learning application - called ACCS - Adaptive Content Composition System - which is capable of composing a knowledge molecule (composed of different media elements) that can parametrically relate to the underlying ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS), for ensuring a desired QoS. The ACCS architecture has two dominant layers above the IMS;viz., knowledge management sub-layer and network services adaptation sub-layer. We study the performance of ACCS with synthetic workloads under controlled conditions using a network test-bed, called GeNIe.

Advanced Feature Servers are at the core of enterprise ip telephony, offering traditional services, such as call hold, voicemail and find-me-follow-me. These Feature Servers have begun to be deployed as IMS Application Servers to support both in-house (premises based) or hosted service (ip Centrex) offerings. At the same time, there exist applications that are external to IMS that can provide a richer communications experience, when integrated. The application layer in IMS allows these external applications to be blended with the advanced telephony features. An example of this is the use of Microsoft Office Communicator for call control. Several current implementations integrate this feature through a back-end proprietary interface to specific feature servers. We present an architecture for generalizing this integration with a CSTA/IMS gateway that can interact with any IMS feature server.

3G wireless networks aim at supporting real-time multimediaapplications such as multimedia conferencing. The 3rd Partnership Project (3GPP) has designed ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) as the solution to provide rich multimedia communication for the Next Generation Networks (NGN). Based on IETF standards such as ip, Sip and SDP protocols, it allows convergence of ipmultimedia communications though existing ip networks. Interest in such communications is expected to grow over wireless network. To guarantee real-time and reliable multimedia transfer, there is a need to analyze multimedia traffic deployed over real 3G networks to help network operators identifying the required 3G IMS network capacity. Therefore, we propose to test real-time multimedia Sip communications through HSDPA network using G711 voice and H263 video codecs with different video frame rates. In this paper, an approach with extended cocoons to detect and resolve the feature interaction induced by the centralized multi-party service is proposed, hereinafter referred to as the ECOMPS. The ECOMPS is built based on the approach presented in [9] which manages the feature interaction between call control services within a single session;therefore, the good characters are inherited. The ECOMPS introduces a cocoon surrounding the centralized multi-party service, called COWS, to modify the original Sip request message to include the information about participants in the multi-party service;in addition, the cocoon for call control services in [9] is extended, called COCCS, to describe the service's execution on the modified request message. Moreover, the ECOMPS can be applied to the service capability interaction manager (SCIM) in 3GPP ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) to detect the feature interaction between Sip application servers where call control services are deployed on, even with the centralized multi-party service involved in the communication. The ECOMPS is also illustrated by taking the multi-party conferencing service as an example. The feature interaction caused by the centralized multiparty party service can be detected and resolved with the ECOMPS.

By complying with the access-security related Third Generation Partnership Project's standard we ensure signaling interoperability of the solution. They are expected to generate revenue to the operators and justify their investment in IMS. And for these multimedia services to be widely accepted by the end users, guaranteed and adaptable quality of service provision across heterogeneous access networks and heterogeneous device types is mandatory. In this paper, a generic, adaptive, controlled service delivery framework implementation for multimediaapplications on IMS architecture is proposed The framework is designed to be user-centric, adaptable to terminal mobility and session mobility with minimum session disruption enabling a better end-to-end QoS. It is at the session-level, completely user-driven and does not account for the network-level QoS. It employs the Session initiation protocol (Sip), which is the signaling protocol for the 3GPP specified IMS. The purpose behind designing the framework is to evaluate the provisioning of quality-adaptive multimedia services on IMS network and analyze the performance with respect to delay induced by quality adaptation procedures during session and terminal mobility which might contribute towards the end-to-end quality of service delivered to the users.

The ipmultimediasubsystem (IMS) enables an access-agnostic Next Generation Network (NGN) that integrates wireless, wireline and internet technologies. IMS provides for real-time voice and data services over a packet-switched domain via a Session Initiation Protocol (Sip) infrastructure. It also offers a cost-effective platform for the creation and deployment of ip-based multimedia services. Given the wide scope of services that can be offered with IMS it is important to develop a framework to analyze the reliability of these services. Using an IMS reference architecture, this paper presents a network level failover analysis using the IMS architecture capabilities and shows its impact on improving service reliability. We show how to analyze the end-to-end service reliability in terms of detection and recovery mechanisms and redundancy.

In current 3GPP specifications ([2], [3], [4], [5]) initial Filter Criteria (iFC) and also the Shared WC (SiFC) optimization (optional in the specs) are defined as part of the User Service Profile;This is linked to the user in order to allow forwarding of the initial received request to the proper Application Server (AS) running the required service logic. That approach considers that all service logic is performed at the AS and then the only defined action for the iFC (when trigger conditions are met) is to forward the request to the AS. The specifications however allow for additional "call control logic" at the S-CSCF that is outside the scope of the WC controls. This paper presents a solution consisting of extensions to the iFCs schema. This can be used as a way to enable such call control logic the S-CSCF. If SiFC are used, the only impacted network element (NE) would be the S-CSCF.
