In this paper we propose architecture and design methodology for the inter-domains security management (IDSM) model for the ip multimedia system (IMS), which is standardized by third generation partnership project (3GPP) and 3GPP2 as next generation mobile networks. The IDSM model is based on trust domain relationship between different network domain operators using policy based security associations and managements. The design methodology introduces inter-domains security gateways for generating and managing keys and certificates based on public key infrastructure (PKI) architecture. ipSec protocol is used for implementing confidentiality and integrity protection. This research work is part of secure service provisioning (SSP) framework for the IMS playground and third generation beyond (3Gb) testbed at the FOKUS Fraunhofer Institute.

The imminent introduction of the 3GPP ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) into commercial mobile networks is considered to be a major step towards all-ip based next generation networks. This has immediate consequences both for the migration of the core network as well as the integration of future mobile services and applications. This paper presents an experimental testbed which has been designed as a minimal standard-compliant IMS core network. We discuss major practical requirements and describe our implementation of this "IMS in a bottle" approach. Furthermore, we introduce an IMS native location service enabler based on the IMS presence system and demonstrate that this service can be integrated efficiently into the IMS core environment

The evolutions of UMTS toward the future wireless all-ip network mainly by the introduction of the ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) at the service level enable the realization of one of the foremost requisites in the next generation networks (NGN): the service convergence. Furthermore the service capability based architecture of IMS characterises this subsystem as a mean for enabling the NGN services. Alongside with these remarkable gains attained by IMS, this overlay network goes through strict inadequacies in the management of the service interactions. In this paper we present insights into the so far research works in the service interaction management domain and we propose a framework for dealing with this problem in IMS. The particularity of our proposition consists of including both the traditional telephony services and the 3GPP (3 rd Generation Partnership Project) standardized services. Moreover our proposition enables a dynamic and online service interaction management mechanism and eliminates the undesired consequences of service interactions

The ubiquitous network and various application services are expected to be realized widely. In this paper, the wireless ubiquitous network is defined as the unified network to integrate the mobile wireless network with the fixed ip based network including various access technologies like W-LAN. First, the wireless ubiquitous network architecture is shown which is based on IMS (ip multimedia subsystem) standardized by 3GPP as Release 5. Next, Parlay is described as one of the solution of Open API approach to design and implement the various sophisticated application services. Then the experiment result is shown including the system configuration and application service examples

ip telephony has been adopted to replace the traditional circuit switch networks in various environments. Government Emergency Telephony Service (GETS) is one of the critical services currently provided in the traditional circuit switch network. GETS supports personnel from different organizations performing their critical missions including incidence response and prevention, national security, and emergency preparedness. Because of the convergent infrastructure for both voice and data, how to provide GETS over ip is one of the challenges for ip telephony to prove its flexibility and strength for large-scale critical services. In this study, we explore many aspects for providing ip-based GETS, such as availability, security, interoperability, and reliability. Based on ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) architecture, the requirements along with some analyses and recommendations are outlined to meet the strict demands for GETS in different convergent paradigms.

As a 4G (generation) network architecture, ip based IMT network is the architecture which is based on a new concept and proposed to cope with large multimedia traffics generated by mobile communications in the near future as the backbone network for ubiquitous computing networks. During the paging process in ip based IMT network, location manager (LM) makes flooding the paging packets to every node in location area (LA) to which MN is belong. At a result of the defects, the overall network efficiency is significantly lowered to process the paging of one MN resulting in the waste of network resources. To resolve this problem, this paper proposed novel paging mechanism using a proxy concept

The wireless ubiquitous network and various services are expected to be realized widely. In this paper, the wireless ubiquitous network is defined as the converged network to integrate the mobile wireless network with the fixed ip based network including various access technologies like WLAN/WPAN. First, the wireless ubiquitous network architecture is shown which is based on IMS (ip multimedia subsystem) standardized by 3GPP. IMS provides a mean that integrates heterogeneous network into an ip based network enabling wireless ubiquitous network. Next, Parlay which is also standardized by 3GPP is described to create the various services. Then the service creation trail is shown including the trail system configuration and vehicle dispatcher service as an example

Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) is an emerging service enabling a walkie-talkie-like service over GPRS. An open standard for PoC has been specified by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) [1]. OMA PoC is based on an ip/UDP/RTP protocol stack and a client-server based architecture. Group management, floor control1 etc are administered by PoC servers. The systems exploits the Sip signalling capabilities of the ip multimedia subsystem (IMS) [2]. The objective of this paper is to propose an outline for a Push-to-Talk (PTT) system that utilizes a Bluetooth scatternet and the Personal Area Networking (PAN) profile for data communications [3], [4]. The proposed system is thus fully independent of cellular networks. A reasonable range of several hundred meters can be obtained with multihop communications between Bluetooth class 1 devices, whose range is up to 100 m. The proposed outline for Push-to-Talk over Bluetooth (PoB) comprises e.g. methods for group formation, network formation, communication, and floor control. The network formation method, which can be utilized in other applications as well, is based on creating a scatternet among a predefined set of devices and on avoiding loops. This approach enables usage of a simple broadcasting based communication method, in which the devices bridging the piconets into a scatternet act as repeaters.

The rapid spread of new radio access technologies, the ever increasing requirements for security, as well as the required capability for the final users to experience continuous connectivity and uninterrupted services of ip applications as they move about from one access network to another, has stimulated the technical and scientific community to investigate future evolution scenarios for 3G networks, generically referred to as Beyond-3G or 4G. Key issues are certainly security provision for applications exchanging data in diverse wireless networks and seamless mobility (handoff) between different coverage domains and, possibly, access technologies. Many proposals are based on the use of the mobile ipv6 protocol. In this paper we analyse the security threats emerging from some Mipv6 mechanisms for mobility management, and we propose a solution to secure them, under the assumption that both communicating end users are attached to a Mipv6-enabled ip multimedia subsystem network

The University of Aveiro is currently developing SInBAD, an integrated system for digital libraries and archives. The aim of the project is to build an information system to support the aggregation of multimedia documents such as books, photographs, and audiovisual resources. All these resources are part of the academic life and identity of the University. The architecture adopted in SInBAD is divided into 3 subsystems - Library, Archive and Jazz - and is Web Service oriented. Also, documents are distributed by several Agents in a dynamic manner. The basic description model used in the documents is the element set defined by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, although each subsystem may use specific data structures according to the document type and format. In this paper we present the created system, pointing out the interoperability and the web service oriented architecture. Also, despite its distributed nature, users may search simultaneously in all documents.
