With the advancement in wireless technologies in general and mobile devices capabilities in particular, ubiquitous access of mobile Web services continues to be in the focal point of research. This paper presents a novel architecture for discovery and invocation of mobile Web services through automatically generated abstract multimodal user interface for these services. A prototype has been developed to auto-generate user interface based on XForms and VoiceXml from a WDSL file. In this proposed architecture, the discovered Web services are invoked dynamically with a transparent mechanism. Moreover, the proposed architecture is a component-based architecture that provides its core functionality as Web services.

Developing large multi-agent systems is a complex task involving the processes of the requirement, architecture, design and implementation of these systems. In particular, the architectural design is critical to cope with the increasing size and complexity of these systems. The multi-agent system that accesses a central repository is typically based on the blackboard architectural pattern. However, the control strategies of the agents are inherently complex. In this paper, we present an event-based control strategy to manage the access of central repository by multi-agents. In this approach, the blackboard pattern is composed with the implicit invocation pattern to separate the control policies from the control component so that the architecture is ease of evolution, reuses and changes.

To ensure the security of software executing on malicious hosts, as in digital rights management (DRM) applications, it is desirable to encrypt or decrypt content using white-box-encoded cryptographic algorithms in the manner of Chow et al. (2002). Such encoded algorithms must run on an adversary's machine without revealing the private key information used, despite the adversary's ability to observe and manipulate the running algorithm. We have implemented obfuscated (white-box) DES and triple-DES algorithms along the lines of Chow et al., with alterations that improve the security of the key. Our system is secure against two previously published attacks on Chow et al.'s system, and our own adaptation of a statistical bucketing attack on their system.

M-commerce has shown up as e-commerce in mobile and wireless communication, and now deals with on-line banking, stock trading, auctions, transactions, and mobile media. M-commerce applications are implemented with, for example, Java technology that supports a client-and-server model and cross-platform mobile applications. They are attractive, but, need a large heap space, which may slow down the execution, lead to poor interactive response, and sometimes cause "out of memory" failure. We propose a Java computation mechanism with heap de/compression modules that reduce memory demand and allow client applications and embedded devices to take the advantage of compression techniques. Results show the impact in space and time efficiency of the proposed mechanism. The space efficiency is 1.80 to 2.50 and the speed is competitive with that of original Java technology. We believe that the proposed mechanism provides a good runtime environment for mobile/wireless computing.

Outdoor location systems based on wireless access point (WAP) signal strength must either know the exact location of the WAPs in order to use a triangulation algorithm, or must construct a radio-map of the signal strengths. While the radio-map technique increases accuracy and can accommodate a wireless network that is not owned by any one entity, conventional methods for constructing a radio-map are labor-intensive and impractical in such environments. We introduce a toolkit for automatically constructing outdoor radio-maps. Our toolkit can easily be carried by delivery personnel and security guards during their normal work duties to obtain signal readings. The scattered data readings are then fed into an interpolation algorithm to construct a more complete grid that can be used as the radio-map.

This paper proposes the methodology of classification architectures for FAS diagnosis tasks and shows their feasibility through experimental studies. We describe the automatic selection of features from an image training set using the theories of multidimensional discriminant analysis and the associated optimal linear projection. The method consists of two steps: projection of face image from the original vector space to a face subspace via PCA, and then use of LDA to obtain a linear classifier. This hybrid classifier using PCA and LDA provides an effective framework for classification of FAS images as FAS-positive and FAS-negative.

Construction activities take place in what can be called a dynamic virtual organization (VO). VOs require a secure, reliable, scalable information infrastructure that allows collaboration and the sharing of information, computation and human resources. They need an infrastructure that would ensure the interoperability of their information systems while maintaining the privacy of their data, rapid joining and parting a VO and provide a higher quality of service, more information, faster computation, than available their own infrastructure. Grid technologies have been providing unpreceded computing and storage power. The paradigm is spinning off and is becoming the workhorse of networked business - something that the Web promised to become but failed to deliver. Construction industry is one of the most demanding users of VO infrastructures and could potentially enormously benefit from grid computing. In this position paper we present the state of the art and outline a research agenda. We propose a particular focusing of the research work on semantic grid technology and the coupling of the ontology and structured information exchange work into all layers of the grid - thereby making the grid infrastructure not only technically robust and secure but also aware of the business processes that take place in construction.

The interoperability among the e-business solutions is the key issue for the implementation of seamless e-business and the interoperability of the e-business solutions are determined by the e-business specification on which the e-business solution are implemented. In this paper, the analysis is performed for the technical architecture comparison between cnXML and ebXML, the de facto e-business standards in China and worldwide. The interoperability assurance layers between different e-business specifications are proposed, namely the data layer, the semantic layer and process layer. We focus on the interoperability of data layer, namely the messaging service layer in this research, and through the XML schema comparison between cnMS and ebMS, we propose the interoperability test levels and assurance method for the e-business messaging service layer.

Pervasive systems are created by introducing wireless communication into distributed multimedia systems. These systems facilitate mobile data access to applications such as health care, tourism and emergency. However new challenges have emerged that has not been adequately addressed in traditional distributed multimedia systems. In pervasive systems, data must be adapted to the user's preferences, device capabilities and network conditions. Several content adaptation techniques have been proposed to fit the data to the usage environment. In this paper we present a distributed content adaptation framework (DCAF) for distributed multimedia systems and its prototype implementation. The architecture takes into consideration client profile, network conditions, content profile (meta-data) and available adaptation services (third party software elements) to construct an optimal dynamic adaptation graph.

Web services are becoming an important enabler of the semantic Web. Besides the need for a rich description mechanism, Web service information should be made available in an accessible way for machine processing. In this paper, we propose a new P2P based approach for Web services discovery. Peers that store Web services information, such as data item descriptions, are efficiently located using a scalable and robust data indexing structure for peer-to-peer data networks, NIPPERS. We present a theoretical analysis which shows that the communication cost of the query and update operations scale double-logarithmically with the number of NIPPERS nodes. Furthermore, we show that the network is robust with respect to failures fulfilling quality of Web services requirements.
