This work presents a new construction technique for q-ary gossip codes from traceability schemes and vice versa. We demonstrate that these IPP codes, constructed by us, achieve the minimum possible code length specified for gossip codes. Further, we show that these codes can withstand erasures in digital fingerprinting applications and come up with a deterministic tracing algorithm. We also provide construction and analysis for concatenated codes derived from gossip codes.

Web and browser-based technology is an active field in the practice of computer science. In recent years, universities have started to develop Web programming courses and curricula, often struggling with how to define such programs. Questions arise as to how Web programming relates to traditional programming paradigms. Can it or should it be integrated into traditional programming coursework? Other questions address the cross-discipline nature of developing information delivery systems for the Web. The problem solving elements of computer science and systems integration are side-by-side with business needs and graphical arts requirements. This paper reports on the effort to define a philosophy for an applied Web programming curriculum for an associate's degree in a computer and information technology program.

Bioinformatics is as a bridge between life science and computer science: computer algorithms are needed to face complexity of biological processes. Bioinformatics applications manage complex biological data stored into distributed and often heterogeneous databases and require large computing power. We discuss requirements of such applications and present the architecture of PROTEUS, a grid-based problem solving environment that integrates ontology and workflow approaches to enhance composition and execution of bioinformatics applications on the grid.

A routine is a temporal context sequence that occurs often. In routine learning, already recognized contexts are utilized in modeling the user behavior. The methodology is presented via a use case scenario. Data collected from various ubiquitous sensors are used in recognizing and defining contexts, and association rules determine the routines. The focus is on testing the suitability of the apriori algorithm for this application area. Several useful routines were derived from the user data, and the results show that data mining can be utilized in pervasive computing.

A trusted third party (TTP) has been employed in many distributed applications to provide various services such as security and reliability. This paper presents an insight into distributing the trust among a set of hosts supporting distributed applications. It critically analyses the current work and suggests perspective solutions to the problem exhibited by using a single TTP, i.e. performance and security bottlenecks, in providing trust services in general and in agent-based threshold proxy sigcryption (ATPS) protocol proposed in [A Secure Method for Signature Delegation to Mobile Agents] in specific.

A new technique for optimally encoding a given source statistical properties of which are described by the first-order model is introduced. The calculation of codeword lengths is based on construction of a new source with statistics that is determined by the consecutive redistribution of the probabilities of symbols in accordance with their original probabilities at each stage of the encoding. The proposed method performs equally well for different orders of symbol probabilities. While codewords are generated by a separate combinatorial procedure, the overall computational cost of the proposed method is lower than that for the Huffman code.

New advancement in FPGA-DSP technology demands a new number system as well as a new data treatment that best utilizes the strengths and avoid the shortcomings of the new technology. To achieve this goal, here we introduce a customized floating-point number system that it can be reformatted as a fixed-point number when needed. In addition, a scheme is proposed for the use of both formats in DSP applications, such as in digital filter design.

We propose moving objects data model and its query language over GML documents. The conventional query languages about GML have been studied with priority given to the integration of geographic information, the support of spatial operations, etc. However, it lacks the support for moving object queries. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the moving objects query language that supports moving object queries for GML documents by extension of XQuery that is standard XML query language. Also, data model, algebra operation and various moving objects operators for the proposed query language are designed.

The new economy is the result of the information revolution that promotes the emergence of networked, ubiquitous and collaborative service provision. Furthermore, the globalisation of trade has increased the number of competitors, driving the need for federated and networked business models. In this paper we argue that next generation ASP models could benefit from the use of the grid. We describe a grid-enabled architecture for coordinated resource sharing and problem solving in dynamic, multi-institutional ASP vendors.

With new applications being launched each day, the number of vulnerabilities to attack increases. Attackers find new ways to attack any application they come across. Some attacks are successful because the application is vulnerable due to the vulnerabilities in files assisting in the proper functioning of the application. Although the area of attacks is vast, buffer overflow attacks form the basis for most attacks. Hence it would be a great boon to the software industry if their products were made secure from buffer overflow attacks. This paper introduces a tool, which is used to locate vulnerable files, which in turn have been the root cause for buffer overflow.
