This paper aims at defining security levels of a voice over IP infrastructure during its design phase. The proposed technique uses security policies to express the security statements that could be adopted, and the policy evaluation is based on security metrics to compare policies. The technique first step consists of policy structure definition; the proposed approach is applied on the target VoIP infrastructure. In the second step of the technique, the policy is used to define reference levels against which a security designer can evaluate his design choice or compare the adopted security solution with existing ones.

Visual information is the most intuitive information perceived by human. Image sensors are able to provide the visual information for recognition, monitoring and surveillance. Networks of visual sensors are the solution of choice for a number of societal, research, and educational applications. Architectural challenges are posed for designers of image sensor nodes such as computational power, energy consumption, energy sources, communication channels, and sensing capabilities. We discuss the characteristics and requirements for an image sensor node. An image sensor node is designed and implemented for wireless sensor network. It includes an embedded processor, memory, a CMOS image sensor, image acquisition unit, RF module and power unit etc. Power-efficient hardware management strategies are proposed for the image sensor node. Image compression problem of image sensor nodes is discussed in detail.

It's not practical to integrate efficiently two subjects in face-to-face education. In this paper, by applying Web technology effectively, we develop a Web-based integrated course about the subjects like computing and English, which represent heterogeneity between each other from the perspective of discipline. We present the integrated course structure and lesson plans at middle schools. Also, we show that our interdisciplinary approach could be plausible and effective by using both Web technology and a variety of quiz & game-based learning materials. Specially, we develop the various types of educational games, which can be orthogonal to learning contents by constructing them through the parameters. Then, we evaluate the learning effects after teaching students the lesson using the lesson plans devised. The results show that the students in the integrated course did better than those in the traditional one in achieving the learning objectives given.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are resource constraint: limited power supply, bandwidth for communication, processing speed, and memory space. One possible way of achieve maximum utilization of those resource is applying data compression on sensor data. Usually, processing data consumes much less power than transmitting data in wireless medium, so it is effective to apply data compression before transmitting data for reducing total power consumption by a sensor node. However, existing compression algorithms are not applicable for sensor nodes because of their limited resource. Therefore, some of compression algorithms, which have been specifically designed for WSNs, are presented in this paper: coding by ordering, pipelined in-network compression, low-complexity video compression, and distributed compression.

Along with the development of multimedia, animation, and network bandwidth, online gaming has become a very successful and outstanding industry recently, especially in Asia Pacific. However, due to the lack of security consideration, legal regulation, management, auditing and related legislation, more and more players have violated the law or become the victims while they are indulging in the virtual world. Virtual properties are getting more and more valuable in the real-world marketplace, and trade or exchange of virtual properties between players have become prevalent. Unfortunately, using illegal fraudulent means or programs to grab others' UserID or password are increasing as well. This paper provides a detailed overview of the online cheating threat and the associated security flaws, examines its consequences for online businesses, and outlines technical solutions and implications.

The inference problem exits when users can infer sensitive data classified at higher security levels from the knowledge of data at their level by performing inference. Inference problems greatly compromise database security, especially in multilevel secure (MLS) databases where both users and data are classified into different security levels. This paper presents an approach of dynamic control over the inference problem after all inference channels have been identified in a multilevel database. A set of key schemes are used for this purpose. We prove that these schemes are more efficient, in both space and time complexity, than previously proposed approaches.

In this paper, we show the design of a network processing system in an IPv6 based media gateway based on abstract state machine (ASM) logic and show how the design features may help in scalability realization for end-to-end QoS issues in next generation networks. The novelty of the approach lies in the formal algorithmic definition of the processing hardware and generation of physical design unit from the data-driven algorithm function computation at compile time. The design in this paper is used to build an implementation prototype of an IPv6 media gateway with a feature of MPEG4 BIFS-MPEG4 LASeR transcoding, standardization activities of which are being currently pursued at the ISO MPEG MDS.

Declustering have attracted a lot of interest over the last few years. Except for a few cases it is not possible to find declustering schemes that are optimal for all spatial range queries. As a result of this, most of the research on declustering have focused on finding schemes with low worst case additive error. However, additive error based schemes have many limitations including lack of progressive guarantees and existence of small nonoptimal queries. In this paper, we take a different approach and investigate schemes that provide progressive guarantees. We investigate the threshold k such that all spatial range queries with /spl les/ k buckets are optimal. By dividing a query into nonoverlapping rectangles each with /spl les/ k buckets the guarantees of threshold can be extended to larger queries. Theoretical analysis shows that threshold k is bounded above by N/2 for N-by-N declustering system with N disks. We propose a number-theoretic threshold algorithm. Experimental results show that proposed algorithm returns schemes with high threshold and low worst-case additive error.

In this paper we propose an on-line TDMA slot assignment/graph coloring algorithm for wireless sensor networks with the help of a mobile agent. It is known that graph coloring problem is NP-complete and several heuristics have been developed. Many of them are centralized algorithms and assume global knowledge of the network. We developed a mobile agent based slot assignment (MASA) algorithm in which a mobile agent moves from node to node and assigns a slot to nodes using two-hop neighborhood information. MASA is close to degree based lower bound (d + 1). It requires d + 1 number of colors or slightly more than d + 1 number of colors depending upon the topology, where d is the maximum nodal degree of the graph.

Our work aims to address the challenging security issues in an important information infrastructure - large-scale and low-energy wireless actuator and sensor networks (WASN). Since WASNs have specific network constraints and data transmission requirements compared to general ad hoc networks and other wireless/wired networks, the security issues need to be tackled accordingly. We propose to seamlessly integrate WASN security with a promising routing architecture that is scalable and energy-efficient. To protect from active attacks in mobile sensor networks, we propose two-level re-keying/re-routing schemes that can not only adapt to a dynamic network topology but also securely update keys for each data transmission session. Moreover, to provide the security for the in-networking processing such as data aggregation in WASNs, we define a multiple-key management scheme in conjunction with the proposed tree-ripple-zone (TRZ) routing architecture.
