This paper presents an approach to the architectural design and analysis of secure software systems based on the system requirements elicited in the form of use cases and misuse cases. We identify architectural components and their connections and analyze whether or not a candidate architecture can address security concerns. This provides a smooth transition from requirements specification to high-level design for engineering secure software systems, and greatly improves the traceability of security concerns, which allows a system developer to know what requirement an architectural component references back to. We demonstrate our approach through a case study on a security-intensive hospital information system.

These days, billions of Web pages are created with HTML or other markup languages. They only have a few uniform structures and contain various authoring styles compared to traditional text-based documents. However, users usually focus on a particular section of the page that presents the most relevant information to their interest. Therefore, Web documents classification needs to group and filter the pages based on their contents and relevant information. Many researches on Web mining report on mining Web structure and extracting information from Web contents. However, they have focused on detecting tables that convey specific data, not the tables that are used as a mechanism for structuring the layout of Web pages. Case modeling of tables can be constructed based on structure abstraction. Furthermore, Ripple Down Rules (RDR) is used to implement knowledge organization and construction, because it supports a simple rule maintenance based on case and local validation.

Results from any existing clustering algorithm that are used for segmentation are highly sensitive to features that limit their generalization. Shape is one important attribute of an object. The detection and separation of an object using fuzzy ring-shaped clustering (FKR) and elliptic ring-shaped clustering (FKE) already exists in the literature. Not all real objects however, are ring or elliptical in shape, so to address these issues, this paper introduces a new shape-based algorithm, called fuzzy image segmentation combining ring and elliptic shaped clustering algorithms (FCRE) by merging the initial segmented results produced by FKR and FKE. The distribution of unclassified pixels is performed by connectedness and fuzzy c-means (FCM) using a combination of pixel intensity and normalized pixel location. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results for different varieties of images proves the superiority of the proposed FCRE algorithm compared with both FKR and FKE.

Nowadays many data grid applications need to manage and process a huge amount of data distributed across multiple grid nodes and stored into heterogeneous databases. Grids encourage the publication of scientific data in a more open manner than is currently the case, and many e-Science projects have an urgent need to interconnect legacy, and independently operated databases through a set of data access and integration services. In the data grid area a set of dynamic and adaptive services could address specific issues related to automatic data management aiming at both providing high performance and fully exploiting a grid infrastructure. In this paper we introduce the grid-DBMS concept, a framework for dynamic data management in grid environments, highlighting its requirements, architecture, components and services.

Access control software must be based on a security policy model. Flaws in them may come from a lack of precision or some incoherences in the policy model or from inconsistencies between the model and the code. In this paper, we first present a formalisation of access control models based on the work on an algebra of security models by J. McLean (1988). Then, we describe the implementation of this framework and show how it can be used to obtain a particular security model: the Bell and La Padula security model. Last, as an example, we show how such a program can be integrated for secure databases. All our development is done within the Focal (Rioboo et al., 2004) programming environment which provides a language with object-oriented features allowing to write formal specifications, proofs and programs at the same level.

As deployed grids increase from tens to thousands of nodes, peer-to-peer (P2P) techniques and protocols can be used to implement scalable services and application in grids. This paper proposes a P2P approach for handling two key services in grid environments: membership management and resource discovery. The membership management service exploits the use of "contact nodes", i.e. of nodes elected within virtual organizations to facilitate the assignment of neighbours and the construction of interconnections between grid nodes. The resource discovery service uses these interconnections to give grid nodes the opportunity to explore the grid and discover available resources. The paper analyzes the performance of the resource discovery service on grid networks with different sizes.

In video transmission over two-way wireless channel automatic repeat request (ARQ) retransmission has been used to protect packets from losing, which also causes the channel throughput varying and brings more challenges to rate control of the video compression. This paper proposes a new rate control algorithm based on regions of interest (ROI), PID buffer controlling and perceptual tuning techniques, etc. It intelligently allocates bit budget among different regions and adapts to time-varying wireless channel so as to achieve better perceptual quality in ROI and depress the frame skipping. Simulation results illustrate that our algorithm effectively enhances the perceptual quality for ROI, significantly reduces the number of frame skipping, and thereby improves the smoothness of the video.

This research describes a Linux/Unix base middleware platform and GUI operating interface that has been created to help developer overcome the difficulties associated with existing software editing, upgrading, updating and integration. With growing in size and complexity of systems using in current organizations, the developing and maintaining existing or new systems can be really cost-and-time consuming. Even, the present new system might be a burden for the future new system development. We present methods for creating a route for data transmission between multiple platforms. Also, we use less than three API to connect with different application software and communication protocol. For example, TCP/IP communicates with X.25, TCP/IP communicates with SNA. The solution is benefit to an application designer to reduce the effort and time when editing or developing system. The major objective of this research is making breakthrough of providing technique for integrating different system while they consist of different OS, application software, protocol and programming language.

The main focus of this study is to compare different performances of soft computing paradigms for predicting the direction of individuals stocks. Three different artificial intelligence techniques were used to predict the direction of both Microsoft and Intel stock prices over a period of thirteen years. We explore the performance of artificial neural networks trained using backpropagation and conjugate gradient algorithm and a Mamdani and Takagi Sugeno fuzzy inference system learned using neural learning and genetic algorithm. Once all the different models were built the last part of the experiment was to determine how much profit can be made using these methods versus a simple buy and hold technique.

Evidence of some attacks can be manifested by abnormal sequences of system calls of programs. Most approaches that have been developed so far mainly concentrate on some program-specific behaviors and ignore some plain behaviors of programs. According to the concept of locality of reference, programs tend to spend most of their time on a few lines of code rather than other parts of the program. We use this finding to propose a method of loop reduction. A loop reduction algorithm, when applied to a series of system calls, eliminates redundant data. We did experiments for the comparison before and after loop reduction with the same detection approach. The preliminary results show that loop reduction improves the quality of training data by removing redundancy.
