Stateful Inspection is a key technology to network devices such as routers and firewalls. Existed session table architectures of Stateful Inspection devices store all session information in a single entry, which causes high time cost of session table timeout processing. In this paper we present a new architecture which divides a session entry into two parts, and designs different data structures for each other. The new architecture can improve the performance of session table greatly. A new PATRICIA algorithm is proposed to organize session table, which is proved to be an optimal 2-ary trie for fixed-length match. An ASIC is implemented for the architecture and corresponding algorithms. Both theoretical and experimental results show that the new architecture has better performance than existed architectures, and can work well in Gigabit Ethernet network.

Table lookups are one of the most frequently-used operations in symmetric key ciphers. Particularly in the newer algorithms such as the advanced encryption standard (AES), we frequently find that the greatest fraction of the execution time is spent during table lookups, varying between 34% and 72% for the five representative ciphers we consider: AES, Blowfish, Twofish, MARS, and RC4. In order to accelerate and parallelize these table lookups, we describe a new parallel table lookup (ptlu) instruction. Our synthesis results indicate that such an instruction can be added to a basic RISC processor with no cycle time impact. We compare the performance of the ptlu instruction with the speedups available through more conventional architectural techniques such as multiple-issue execution. We find that the performance benefits of using the ptlu instruction can be far higher than increasing the number of instructions executed per cycle in superscalar or VLIW processors.

The quantification of evaluating semantic relatedness among texts has been a challenging issue that pervades much of machine learning and natural language processing. This paper presents a hybrid approach of a text-mining technique for measuring semantic relatedness among texts. In this work we develop several text classifiers using support vector machines (SVM) method to supporting acquisition of relatedness among texts. First, we utilized our developed text mining algorithms, including text mining techniques based on classification of texts in several text collections. After that, we employ various SVM classifiers to deal with evaluation of relatedness of the target documents. The results indicate that this approach can also be fitted to other research work, such as information filtering, and recategorizing resulting documents of search engine queries.

Authenticated group key agreement is important in many modern collaborative and distributed applications. Recently, identity-based authenticated group key agreement has been increasingly researched because of the simplicity of a public key management. Basically, these protocols provide authentication by signatures. Hence they are less efficient for the verification of signatures creates additional computational overhead. In the paper, we propose an efficient authenticated group key agreement protocol by introducing a modified identity-based public key infrastructure with new system setup and key extraction algorithms. The security of our protocol is assured by the discrete logarithm assumption. Moreover, our protocol requires only one round and is more efficient than all previously known ones since it provides authentication without using signatures.

Web crawlers are one of the most crucial components in search engines and their optimization would have a great effect on improving the searching efficiency. In this paper, we introduce an intelligent crawler called Gcrawler that uses a genetic algorithm for improving its crawling performance. Gcrawler estimates the best path for crawling on one hand and expands its initial keywords by using a genetic algorithm during the crawling on the other hand. This is the first crawler that acts intelligently without any relevance feedback or training. All the processes are online and there is no need for direct interaction with the users.

Multimedia applications have become one of the major traffic to be transported through networks. These applications require high bandwidth and stringent quality of service (QoS). The end video quality is determined not only by the network QoS but also by the encoded video quality. We consider video quality from these two aspects and propose to transport spatial scalable encoded videos with different dropping priorities over DiffServ (differentiated service). Performance analysis and simulation results show that this can provision QoS guarantees. The dropping policy we propose at the egress router can reduce the traffic load as well as the risk of congestion in other domains.

This paper proposes a parallel implementation of the multiple sequence alignment algorithm, known as ClustalW, on distributed memory parallel machines. The proposed algorithm divides a progressive alignment into subtasks and schedules them dynamically. A task tree is built according to the dependency of the generated phylogenetic tree. The computation and communication costs of the tasks are estimated at run-time and updated periodically. With dynamic scheduling, tasks are allocated to the processors considering the tasks' estimated computation and communication costs and the processors' workload in order to minimize the completion time. The experiment results show that the proposed parallel implementation achieves a considerable speedup over the sequential ClustalW.

E-commerce involves business activities that deal with the exchange of values for goods and services on the Internet where all transactions are carried out electronically. These activities consist of different operations that depend on data. Web data emanate from data sources that are inherently distributed and potentially heterogeneous. However, Web users, and indeed, participants of e-commerce transactions desire access to data without necessarily understanding the intricacies of the underlying data sources. Unfortunately, data infrastructure has not been a major focus of e-commerce research. In this paper, we characterize e-commerce data sets to reveal the storage requirements and other data management needs of such data. We specify a common-term vocabulary to make explicit the content of data, and hence, facilitate the integration of e-commerce data sets. Central to the semantic description of data is a filter mechanism that recognizes a context schema.

Bezier curves are robust tool for a wide array of applications ranging from computer-aided design to calligraphic character, outlining and object shape description. In terms of the control point generation process, existing shape descriptor techniques that employ Bezier curves do not distinguish between regions where an object's shape changes rapidly and those where the change is more gradual or flat. This can lead to an erroneous shape description, particularly where there are significantly sharp changes in shape, such as at sharp corners. This paper presents a novel shape description algorithm called a generic shape descriptor using Bezier curves (SDBC), which defines a new strategy for Bezier control point generation by integrating domain specific information about the shape of an object in a particular region. The strategy also includes an improved dynamic fixed length coding scheme for control points. The SDBC framework has been rigorously tested upon a number of arbitrary shapes, and both quantitative and qualitative analyses have confirmed its superior performance in comparison with existing algorithms.

UML models describe the structure and behavior of existing or future software systems. In addition to the UML model, developers consult metrics and other attribute data for evaluation and analysis purposes. In hitherto techniques, attribute data and structural data in the diagrams of the UML model is split in different representations. For the process of evaluation of a system the attribute data must be combined with the structural data. Geographical information systems (GIS) deploy visualization techniques to combine these different types of data. We propose a set of visualization techniques adopted from GIS to enrich UML models with attribute data. Advantages and examples of the visualizations are discussed, as well as limitations to the applicability. Especially the technique where colors represent attribute values of elements seems promising.
