Network coding has been shown to be an efficient approach for enhancing video streaming quality. With inter-session network coding, intermediate nodes will mix the media packets from different sources. However, packets from different flows may have different transmission rate and this will cause lack of coding opportunity for a period of time. So the relay nodes have to make a decision whether to forward packets directly or wait for the next opportunity to encode. In this paper, a prioritized network coding scheme is proposed to address the problem of mismatched coding opportunities in multiple streams. The base-layer packets of the streaming are received by the destination node with a high probability and the number of sent packets are reduced while taking full advantage of the limited network bandwidth. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme enhances the video quality compared to existing opportunistic coding schemes.

Accompany with the development of information service and rapid expansion of cloud computing, scientific workflow system is facing challenges of growing size of heterogeneous data, complexity of scientific computing and difficulty of task integration. In this paper, a cloud scientific workflow system-CSWf, which based on Hadoop, NoSQL and Web Service technology, is proposed to make an effective integration of data and service resources in the loosely-coupled cloud service environment. To implement CSWf, a simple but effective cloud service workflow modeling language is designed, and then a reliable workflow engine is developed to parse and schedule the workflow processes, also a distributed execution framework is built to encapsulate workflow jobs and execute workflow for CSWf in the cloud environment. CSWf takes benefits of massive data storage capacity and distributed parallel computing power of cloud computing. It accommodates well on the requirement of modeling, scheduling, coordinating and executing workflows on a distributed workflow system. At the end of this paper, an urban regional air pollution workflow with different size input data on the cluster is run, to measure the performance of CSWf. The result shows that CSWf can significantly improve the efficiency of workflow execution.

Multicast and broadcast service (MBS) is one of the important services for next generation wireless systems. Normally, the base station (BS) may perform advance radio resource management functionalities based on the channel quality indicator (CQI) reports sent by MBS subscribers. However, the CQI reports lead to high signaling overhead at the uplink. This paper proposed a common feedback channel to reduce the uplink signaling overhead. A simple dynamic modulation and coding scheme (MCS) is then presented to improve the spectral efficiency based on the limited information carried by the common feedback channel. Simulation results showed that the proposed method could enhance the spectral efficiency with reduced signaling overhead. The results also demonstrated the robustness of the common feedback channel in the presence of feedback errors.

In orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) networks, relay nodes utilize network coding for the received information to improve spectrum efficiency. However, network coding spreads may result in some errors. These bit errors along the relay's transmission, which results in high BER in receivers. To solve the error spread problem, we propose a new coding algorithm called dualism network coding (DNC) algorithm to cripple the spread of error effectively for 2-relay networks. In the proposed algorithm, relay node reuse the bit decoded from the received information for the network coding of next slot. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective to solve the problem of error propagation effectively.

In this paper, we examine the performance of specific implementations of multiple description coding and of layered coding for video streaming over error-prone packet switched networks. We compare their performance using different transmission schemes with and without network path diversity. It is shown that given the specific implementations there is a large variation in relative performance between multiple description coding and layered coding depending on the employed transmission scheme. For scenarios where the packet transmission schedules can be optimized in a rate-distortion sense, layered coding provides a better performance. The converse is true for scenarios where the packet schedules are not rate-distortion optimized.

In this paper, we present the PNCO, a partial network coding for multicast communications in wireless network under opportunistic routing. PNCO presents a low complexity algorithm for intra-flow network coding for wireless network. This metric breaks the whole file into blocks of K packets. It only randomly mixes packets of the current block then forwards them. As soon as the destination node decodes the block, it sends an ACK to the source to allow it to send the next block. When estimates the delivery probability on each link, we consider the excepted cost of each link (EC), which incorporates delay and loss ratio of each link. Our simulation results show that PNCO provides significantly higher throughput, compared to the transitional routing, by at most 20% to 30%. And simultaneously the delay is lower about 50% than conventional network coding.
