This work proposed an evolutionary building facility control optimization method that re-utilized a promising solution set archived during the optimization process. Evolutionary optimization was suited to solve multi-objective optimization problems. Evolutionary algorithms especially for addressing real-world optimization problems often employed an archive solution set to increase the approximation quality of the Pareto front, the optimal trade-off among objective functions. The proposed method not only employed the archive solution set but also re-utilized it for the search. The proposed method updated the searching solution set by the archive solution set at regular intervals. Experimental results showed the re-use of the archived solutions contributed to obtaining solutions that could not be obtained by the conventional method without re-utilization of the archive solution set.

This paper presents a time-optimal path parameterization (TOPP) method for cooperative multi-arm robotic systems (MARS) manipulating heavy objects with third-order constraints that include jerk, torque rate and wrench rate limits. The method is based on a problem reformulation as a sequential linear program and provides a unified planning approach that is faster than previous convex optimization techniques. The equivalence to a reachability-based TOPP is shown and simulation results for a cooperative MARS consisting of two 7 degree of freedom (DOF) robots and a tightly grasped object with 6 DOFs are provided.

The dimming control function is crucial for indoor optical wireless communication (OWC) systems. This paper provides a review of our recently proposed conceptual designs aimed at alleviating the need for reduced data rates or increased optical transmit power, while ensuring stable link performance during dimming control. These designs include a method combining orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and multi-pulse position modulation (MPPM), the adoption of a low-power infrared (IR) link to complement the visible light (VL) link, and a hybrid VL/IR communication scheme based on pulse width modulation (PWM) for real-time implementation. Additionally, the coverage performance of the hybrid VL/IR communication scheme is evaluated through numerical simulations.

The research regarding the cooperation between unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has attracted great attenuation in recent years. However, one of the key technical weaknesses is the limited service duration of onboard battery-empowered UAVs. Aiming to prolong UAVs flight time, in this paper, UAVs flight energy consumption minimization problem is formulated along with a list of constraints. To solve the challenging problem, the original problem is decoupled into two subproblems, where the first one is solved by using the proposed modified differential evolution algorithm and the second subproblem is resolved by means of the proposed modified grey wolf algorithm. The results verify the effectiveness of the proposed solution. The outcome obtained in this paper can be further extended to reliable indoor communication services, such as library indoor positioning and navigation and library emergency communications.

Singularly perturbed systems (SPSs) are a class of processes with dynamics naturally viewed through multiple time scales. The classical paradigm is to separate them into their associated reduced-order (slow) and boundary layer (fast) subsystems for any subsequent analysis. In opposition to this, the Robust control Framework (RCF) implies a different system structure with added design flexibility. With this in mind, the scope of the current paper is two-fold: on one hand, to propose a technical adaptation such that an SPS can be rewritten for the RCF without adding conservativeness, with the perturbation parameters seen as uncertainties, and on the other hand, to provide means for a corresponding discrete-time regulator to ensure the performance metrics specified through the RCF. We consider the extended formulation of three-time scale linear timeinvariant (LTI) systems, which can be further particularized to two-time scales only. The proposed solution is presented in an end-to-end manner in a numerical case study.
