This research paper provides an overview of how technology is shaping the pathway for Mauritius to become a smart Tourism destination. Mauritius a small island economy recently hosted an international conference entitled ‘Digitalisation and Sustainability’ in the tourism sector. The conference emphasised on the need for enhancing competitiveness of Mauritius as a tourism destination through technology and innovation. Mauritius has also invested in smart Cities to provide technology-driven facilities to businesses and customers. A qualitative research approach is adopted based on content analysis, literature review and reference will be made to the challenges for the country to emerge as a smart tourist destination. The research analyses the megatrends in digitalisation that emerged from the conference and further analyses different indexes for ICT to assess the readiness of Mauritius as smart Tourism destination. Different Mauritian tourism websites and metrics are used to gather data for purposes of analysis. The research shows that the hospitality industry is investing in new technological tools due to increasing customer sophistication. The *** and Mari *** portals are clear examples of the digitalisation trend in the tourism industry with the increasing use of the internet by consumers at all levels of the value chain. The research will also showcase some examples of real applications of technology in the tourism sector being adopted at the national and international level. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the continuous development of science and technology, the data in the field of mental health education is also explosive growth. The traditional mode of mental health education has been unable to meet the growing practical needs, which urgently needs to change the mode of mental health education. In the era of big data, we should consider introducing big data technology into the mental health education model of Higher Vocational colleges. By analyzing the characteristics of large data, and using data mining method based on spectral clustering to mine mental health data. The results show that the application of big data technology can effectively improve the effectiveness of mental health education. Through data integration, information resources can be shared, and personalized mental health education can be provided for students, so as to explore the way to change the mode of mental health education in Higher Vocational Colleges to meet the requirements of the era of big data. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

Doing regular medical checkup is important for elderly population in order to stay healthy and avoid unexpected fatal consequences. Some elderly people could find health monitoring as problematical due to aging reason, therefore it is essential to develop a smart home health system. This system aims to be an affordable, cost-effective, and easy-to-use. The proposed smart health system has combined remote medical monitoring, reminding and fall detecting features. The proposed system prototype allows to observe health state of elderly people at a distance, and call an emergency by sending email notifications in case of detecting a fall or abnormal health rate vitals. Another advantage of the smart health system is safety, the design includes gas sensors and a camera that can detect occurrence of fire and unusual events (thieves entering). Moreover, the smart system includes the feature to send reminding notifications about daily routine tasks, which is crucial for elderly citizens with amnesia/memory loss. It is expected that the system saves money and time compared with in-clinic care services.

Blockchain is a decentralized network ledger. Based on the core characteristics of blockchain such as decentralization, tamper-proof, and smart contract, it has been applied in many fields including finance, healthcare, food traceability and so on. However, blockchain technology still faces many challenges, such as scalability, interoperability, privacy leakage, and legal regulation, to be solved. This paper conducts a comprehensive survey of blockchain technology. Specifically, we firstly introduce the architecture of blockchain. Secondly, several typical application scenarios are described. Then, we list some technical and legal challenges of blockchain. Finally, the development of future trends of blockchain is analyzed. © 2020 IEEE.

With the exponential increase of the data amount in the past years, data analytics and data processing became essential to any organization. As Moore's law has been exceeded since several years ago, the excessive data hides indeed highly useful information. The real challenge is to successfully extract the information using an effective process and with a reasonable cost. Therefore, various processing techniques have emerged. Indeed, big data processing methods can be classified into several types like batch based, stream based, Graph based, DAG based, interactive based and visual based. All data processing techniques follow the same cycle: data collection, data preparation, data input, processing, data output/interpretation and data storage. Although having this similarity, these approaches have certainly different use cases, architectures and tools. This paper focuses on two types, namely: Batch-based processing and stream-based processing. After defining these two approaches, a comparative study is conducted and some key features are highlighted.

The General data ProtectionRegulation (GDPR) has entered into force in the European Union (EU) since 25 May 2018 in order to satisfy present difficulties related to private information protection. This regulation involves significant structural for companies, but also stricter requirements for personal data collection, management, and protection. In this context, companies need to create smart solutions to allowthem to complywith the GDPR and build a feeling of confidence in order to map all their personal data. In these conditions, cognitive computing could be able to assist companies extract, protect and anonymize sensitive structured and unstructured data. Therefore, this article proposes a framework that can serve as an approach or guidance for companies that use cognitive computing methods to meet GDPR requirements. The goal of this work is to examine the smart system as a data processing and data protection solution to contribute to GDPR compliance.

Public credit is an important part of social credit, which plays an important role in accelerating the transformation of government functions, innovating supervision methods, improving the market credit environment and promoting social governance. In the process of collecting, sharing and exchanging public credit information, the "garbage information" and the incorrect, incomplete and inconsistent data have seriously affected the quality of the public credit data, which is not conducive to giving full play to the value and advantages of the public credit information. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the quality of public credit data, establish an effective data quality management mechanism, and improve the availability and use value of data. In this paper, from the perspective of data standardization, completeness, accuracy, consistency, accessibility and timeliness, we put forward the overall data quality evaluation indexes of public credit. In the last few years, the exponential rise in urban population and allied demands have alarmed governing agencies as well as industries to achieve more quality-of-service (QoS) oriented solutions to meet up-surging demands, especially towards real-time decision making, information exchange and knowledge-driven decisions. To achieve it, smart city concept which employs Internet- of-Things (IoT), distributed software computing, and Bigdata analytics has gained widespread attention. Though, inclusion of QoS-sensitive routing has helped enabling better and efficient sensory or node's data collection and dissemination; however, ensuring optimal query-driven knowledge mining and information exchange has remained a challenge. Considering it as motivation, in this paper an evolutionary computing assisted K-Means clustering algorithm is developed for MapReduce computation in Hadoop distributed framework. The proposed method employs genetic algorithm to enhance centroid estimation as well as clustering, which as a result helped in achieving better clustering to support MapReduce. The proposed GA based K-Means clustering has been applied over Hadoop-MapReduce, where to achieve aforesaid centroid estimation and clustering enhancement Silhouette coefficient was used as the objective function. Here, GA-K Means was applied in such manner that it estimates optimized centroid and clusters simultaneously over Mapper and Reducer, which makes overall computation faster and more accurate.
