Nowadays, the adoption of the Internet of Things is drastically increasing in different domains and is contributing to the fast digitalization of several different critical sectors. In the near future, next generation of IoT-based systems will become more complex to be designed and managed. An opportunity for the development of flexible smart IoT-based systems that drive the business decision-making is to take more precise and accurate decisions at the right time, collecting real-time IoT generated data. This involves a set of challenges including the complexity of IoT-based systems and the management of large-scale systems scalability. With respect to these challenges, we propose to automate the management of IoT-based systems mainly based on an autonomic computing approach;these systems should implement cognitive capabilities that allow them learning and generating decisions at the right time. Consequently, we propose a model-driven methodology for designing smart IoT-based systems. With this objective, BRAIN-IoT paves the way to develop and demonstrate novel IoT concepts and solutions to underpin the Next Generation Internet of Things vision and architecture, that focusing on self-aware and semi-autonomous IoT systems, as well as on moving away from centralized cloud-computing solutions towards distributed intelligent edge computing systems.

This article describes the Emotiv Cortex software and a Raspberry Pl device comprising an original solution in the field of control based on the BCI brain-computer interface technology. For the purposes of the conducted research, a Raspberry PI with a Wi-Fi module was used. The Raspberry PI was connected to a universal board, which enabled easy linking of other modules, to be controlled by the persons operating the solution. The brain-computer interface developed by Emotiv (EPOC+ NeuroHeadset) communicates with the Emotiv Cortex software, the messages are sent to the Raspberry PI 2B and then can be used to control a device operating in a smart home system.

According to the quantitative analysis of the prediction effects of grid forecast gusty wind speed on intelligent grid from March 2018 to June 2020, it is found that the prediction precision rates of wind force at all grades are not high, and they are inappropriate to serve as meteorological service products directly. Therefore, it is necessary to find a suitable method to correct them. In this paper, the random forest regression algorithm is used to establish the optimal gusty wind correction regression model by selecting the important characteristic variables and the optimal parameters. And then, the correction effects of the model are evaluated and the business trial operation is carried out. Through analysis, the trail operation results show that the correction effects of the random forest regression model are relatively effective, but only for the large sample data of wind-force 0–5. Consequently, the model prediction data can be considered to be used in the prescribed limit of gale forecast, and the grid forecast data of wind-force 6 and above have better precision rates, which can be used in the superior limit of gale forecast.

As the limited processing power and energy of mobile terminals, the QoS of delay-sensitive service cannot be guaranteed. This paper proposes an SDN-based task caching and offloading strategy (SD-TCO) by mobile edge computing technology. The strategy mainly includes two algorithms: SDN-based mobile edge computing network (SD-MEN) task caching algorithm and branch-bounding algorithm based on greedy strategy. The SD-MEN task caching algorithm is used to increase the cache hit ratio by saving the frequently called task results on the edge server, and the branch-bounding algorithm based on greedy strategy is used to offload the task reasonably, which can ensure the QoS of users and minimize energy consumption. Simulation results show that SD-TCO has achieved effective improvement in stable delay and energy consumption.
