While the recent advances in data science and machine learning attract lots of attention in cyber security because of their promise for effective security analytics, vulnerability analysis, risk assessment, and security policy validation remain slightly aside. This is mainly due to the relatively slow progress in the theoretical formulation and the technological foundation of the cyber security concepts such as logical vulnerability, threats, and risks. In this article, we are proposing a framework for logical analysis, threat intelligence, and validation of security policies in cyber systems. It is based on multi-level model, consisting of ontology of situations and actions under security threats, security policies governing the security-related activities, and graph of the transactions. The framework is validated using a set of scenarios describing the most common security threats in digital banking, and a prototype of an event-driven engine for navigation through the intelligence graphs has been implemented. Although the framework was developed specifically for application in digital banking, the authors believe that it has much wider applicability to security policy analysis, threat intelligence, and security by design of cyber systems for financial, commercial, and business operations. © 2021, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Traditional grid moves toward smart Grid (SG). In traditional grids, electricity was wasted in generation-transmission-distribution. SG is introduced to solve prior issues. In smart grids, how to utilize massive smart meter’s data in order to improve and promote the efficiency and viability of both generation and demand side is a compelling issue. A good forecasting model makes an acceptable use of all characteristics of the electric loads’ data and also reduces dimensionality of that data. Many data-driven methods have been proposed in the literature for load forecasting. In this paper, EEMD based ECNN model is proposed to forecast load of electricity using AEMO data. From the results, ECNN outperforms benchmark methods especially by applying EEMD for decomposition and DAE for feature extraction. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Big data analytics is a rapidly expanding issue in computer engineering, and health informatics is one of the most challenging topics. Big data investigation in healthcare could certainly make improvements to medical study as well as the quality of treatment offered to patients. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms due to powerful and efficient handling of data analytics could gain knowledge from data to discover patterns and trends in the database to make predictive models. Our study aims to review the most recent scholarly publications about big data analytics and its applications which include predictive models in healthcare. A systematic search of articles in the three most significant scientific databases: ScienceDirect, PubMed, and IEEE Xplore was carried out following the PRISMA methodology. This study shows how machine learning algorithms are evolving into a promising field for supporting intelligent decisions by analyzing large data sets and thereby improving treatments while reducing costs. However, there remain challenges to overcome and there is still room for improvement to develop methods and applications. Finally, we outline the unsolved issue and the future perspectives for health sciences in the big data era. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2020.

Human activity recognition (HAR) from the time-series data generated by smarlt devices like smartphones and smartwathces is absolutely necessary for future intelligent health-care systems. A number of machine learning approaches have been devised for human activity recognition from such devices. However, most of the existing approaches have considered activity recognition as a supervised learning problem, which requires a training dataset for learning the activities. With ever-growing computing power of smart devices, the amount of data generated by these devises is also increasing in manifold. Thus, it becomes a tedious task to annotate the data collected from the smart devices. Being an unsupervised learning approach, cluster analysis provides meaningful insights on hidden patterns in the huge volume of data without training examples. Hence cluster analysis can be used as a preprocessing step in human activity recognition when there is no sufficient information about the number of activities. This paper presents a comparative study of three clustering algorithms such as K-means, hierarchical agglomerative clustering and Fuzzy C-means for human activity recognition problem. A method to automatically determine the number of activities is also demonstrated in this paper. Experimental results on two UCI activity recognition datasets show that FCM algorithm effectively categorizes the activities. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

Continuous authentication mechanism is gaining popularity in the recent days as the conventional mechanism of authentication is difficult for the user to memorize, such as the passcode and pattern, and for the device and data, it is vulnerable to different types of attacks. The continuous authentication mechanism has the advantage that, at any point of time, without the user’s permission the device can check the genuineness of the user credentials, thereby ensuring that the registered owner is using the device and the stored data. This technique uses the behavioral biometric data which is difficult for an impersonator to mimic and ensure the security of the data as well as to the device. This paper proposes a method based on continuous authentication by exploring the possibilities of the signals generated from micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) that are inbuilt in the smartphone. Signals collected which are generated by the movement of the hand, orientation of the device, and the holding behavior of the user are analyzed to get a unique parameter, which will be used for the authentication purposes. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

The county area of Guang-Dong province is vast. Supported by county tourism, Guang-Dong province is a big and strong tourism province in China. The tourism industry has developed rapidly in recent years. It is of great significance to understand the current situation and problems of the tourism competitiveness of Guang-Dong county and to improve the tourism competitiveness of Guang-Dong county. Taking 21 counties in Guang-Dong province as an example, this study selected representative indicators to build an index system of tourism competitiveness of the county, and evaluated its tourism competitiveness by combining big data and factor analysis. On the basis of comprehensive analysis, this paper makes a scientific evaluation on the tourism competitiveness of Guang-Dong county. It also provides scientific reference for the further development of Guang-Dong county tourism. The results of this paper show that the tourism competitiveness of Guang-Dong counties is large in guangshen area and relatively backward in other cities. In tourism competitiveness, tourism market competitiveness and tourism support competitiveness contribute more;there is a positive relationship between tourism competitiveness and regional economic development. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

The applications and services are growing computation-intensive vary with the advent of wireless communication technology, whereas the computing resources and capabilities of mobile devices (MDs) are finite. Mobile edge computing (MEC) is a compelling way to offload applications from MDs to the cloudlets for performing, by means of deploying cloudlets nearby the MDs, which is capable of alleviating the computing burden of MDs and reducing the completion time of applications. However, MDs are irregularly dispersed in the Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks (WMAN), and the service provider needs to recover the cost of the deployment and maintenance of cloudlets and achieve profitability. As a consequence, it poses a significant challenge to reasonably offload applications from MD to the proper cloudlet for MEC in the WMAN. In this paper, we study the user satisfaction of MDs, the profit of service provider and the resource utilization of cloudlets as a multi-objective optimization problem. In the sequel, we devise a profit-driven computation offloading method, under the collaboration of MD-cloudlet-cloud, to obtain the optimal offloading strategy such that maximizes the user satisfaction of MDs, the profit of service provider and the resource utilization of cloudlets. To this end, we conduct comprehensive experiments to validate the efficiency of the proposed method. The numerical results demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm is prominent. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper is a summary of extensive analytics implemented over personally collected through educational aspect dataset to get insights for their academic analytics. The main focus is on educational data mining. Basically, students progress is directly associated with their obtained marks. Apart from their studious approach, it is possible to have some other perspective effects on their performance. It is known that individuality, lifestyle and responsiveness related variables have close association together which harshly affect student’s performance. The multivariate analysis of variance statistical technique is used to escalate the same and the analytics were carried out with SPSS software package. In recent years, education is becoming more and more important in the society. Meanwhile, ideological-political education in colleges and schools has attracted the attention of schools and parents. First, universities should actively improve the application of big data technology in the education process, and second, establish a high school. VANET (Vehicle Ad Hoc Network) is now making its shift towards IoV (Internet of Vehicle). On road smart vehicles are expected to be the part of vehicle network in near future. Information integrity during V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) communication is one of the key barriers in the implementation of vehicle networks. Vehicle networks face many drastic changes in the network topology during a short period of time. Absolute central network availability is difficult in vehicular networks that makes V2V communication significantly important. Trustworthiness plays a very important role to ensure integrity. Many models of trust evaluation have been proposed with a common trait of fixed nature. As possibility of scenario change is high for every other event so the fixed nature of previous models seems impractical. Our work aims to solve the problem by introducing context awareness between the available information and trust evaluation. It is expected that the proposed solution will overcome the limitations of current models and provide a hybrid adaptive model. Our model is based on context scenario adaptation rather than depending on a limited set of situations.
