The aim of this research is to evaluate the performance of two feature selection methods on seven different machine learning methods applied over thoracic surgery data. Feature selection is a crucial pre-processing step in determining factors responsible for post-operative life expectancy in the patients suffering with lung cancer. Postoperative life expectancy complications are the most common fatality following major types of thoracic surgery. In particular, we want to examine the underlying health factors of patients that could potentially be a powerful predictor for deaths which are surgically related. Seven machine learning methods namely Naive Bayes, Linear SVM, MLP, RBF Network, SMO, KNN and CART are employed for analyzing the performance of feature selection methods. Maximum accuracy of 85.11% was obtained with correlation-based feature selection in comparison with consistency-based feature selection which was 84.89 %.

In Intelligent Transportation Systems predicting arrival time of bus is a key challenge. The bus arrival time is the primary information for providing passengers with an accurate information that can reduce passenger waiting time. The accuracy of predicting arrival time is highly dependable on several factors such as data input, quality of the data collected and the accuracy of prediction algorithms. Several studies have been implemented by the developed countries in predicting the arrival time under homogeneous traffic conditions. However, the direct implementation of such systems in developing countries especially like India where the heterogeneity of the vehicles can be found on the roads, may not be suitable. The main components in predicting the arrival time is the travel time between the stops in heterogeneous traffic conditions, which need to be incorporated in the prediction scheme for better accuracy. In this paper, ANN, Kalman and Regression models are used also taking delays into account for better prediction of bus arrival time. Data were collected using smartphone having GPS sensor by installing our Android application on it. The performance of our experiment showed that regression model has the better prediction in predicting the arrival time of bus and improvement over other models.

With the advancement of technology, handheld devices like smart phones, ipods, PDAs, etc. have become very popular now-a-days. The real flavors of these emerging smart technologies are perceived when they are interconnected by means of wireless networks. In real-life scenario, the networks are highly heterogeneous in nature and the most popular, traditional and reliable protocol for communicating among these networks is the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). TCP is a transport layer protocol of the internet protocol suite which provides services for host to-host connectivity in a connection-oriented manner. In a wired network, the TCP is well tuned to give a good performance for communication. The primary reason of packet losses in case of wired networks is the congestion in the network However, the scenario is different in case of wireless communication. Here, the TCP performance issues crop up mainly due to errors in transmission and handoffs. The paper presents a comprehensive survey of various approaches pertaining to the improvement in TCP performance in wireless networks. It summarizes the various proposed methodologies and also presents the advantages and disadvantages of those approaches.

The explosion of DNA microarray dataset in the scientific repository has been encouraging interdisciplinary research on ecology, computer science, and bioinformatics. The DNA microarray research field, prompt the development of a remarkable gene selection (GS) method for gene expression data classification, due to exponentially increase data size and attribute into gene expression data. Over the last decades, many gene selection technologies have been successfully used by the researchers in the classification of tumors or cancers. To choose the informative genes involved in different types of tumors remains critical challenges. In order to select the informative genes for better classification, hybrid gene selection method is recommended in this paper. It is a combination of Spearman's Correlation Coefficient (SCC) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) method called as SCCGA. For the diverse performance measurements, the experiments are conducted on three real-life datasets of a varied dimensionality and number of instances. The numerical experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SCCGA method significantly reduces the data features which give better performance in terms of classification accuracy.

In present digital communication system, sample rate conversion plays a crucial role in every aspect. Multirate signal processing can be realized by using Digital up/down converters. In this paper, an optimized model for digital up/down converter is analysed on the basis of various parametric attributes such as different interpolation/decimation factors, cascading of filters, adding delay element and number of sections in the CIC filter (N). The input signal in the range of 300-4000 Hz is sampled at 100 kHz. Further, the sampled signal is passed on to CIC filters along with a CIC compensator. The signal is either upsampled or downsampled by a factor of 12. Then, the up/down sampled signal is modulated with a high frequency carrier signal of 600 kHz generated using a direct digital synthesizer. The obtained output signal is an up/down sampled signal. The output is analysed for different parametric aspects to achieve an improvised Digital up/down converter. These filters are designed and simulated using MATLAB Simulink 2014a.

In modern medicine, digital pathology represents one of the major and challenging research field. Pathological exams have a critical role in diagnosis process. Histopathological grading of breast cancer provides prior knowledge to the patients prognosis and helps to make further treatment plans. But, manual analysis of numerous biopsy slides is a labor-intensive work for pathologists. In the case of breast cancer grading, Nottingham grading system (NGS) is the standard. Tubule formation, nuclear atypia, and mitosis count are the three criterion used for NGS. Mitosis counts play an essential role for breast cancer grading. The recent advances in histopathology has the potential to assist the pathologist. This paper presents a comprehensive review on the state-of-the-art image analysis research focusing on automated detection of mitotic cells. The main goal of this paper is the development of a system to provide automatic detection and classification of mitosis from histopathological images.

Autonomous Rover requires navigating unknown areas and reaching target point successfully. Over the course, rovers may get trapped in a deadlock scenario. Rover must be built with intelligence to back trace its path and find an alternate route to avoid the trap situation. Maze is a typical case which can be used to train the rover to deal with such scenarios. This paper brings out a maze solver algorithm which can be implemented in a simple autonomous rover with limited onboard resources. Also the implementation details of the algorithm in LEGO Mindstorms Rover along with the experimental results are brought out here.

One of the most common diagnostic tests prescribed in any medical investigation is the blood count. It involves counting the number of Red blood cells(RBCs), White blood cells (WBCs, which are classified into Lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils and neutrophils), platelets and haemoglobin. Measurement of RBCs forms a major part of the Complete Blood Count(CBC), as they are directly involved in oxygen transportation to various parts of the body. Blood counts are done either manually, using haemocytometers and optical microscopes or with the help of specialised CBC machines. A CBC machine consists of a LASER flow cytometer which counts the number of cells passing through a point and a spectrometer to measure haemoglobin. Other computations are carried out using special purpose processors. In this paper, we propose a system and a special purpose IC which can perform the complete blood count with simple circuitry, all on a single device.

The aim of Facial Expression Recognition (FER) is, based on facial information to observe and realize human emotions. It is an exciting and exigent problem to distinguish the human facial expression and emotion. This paper suggests a Gaussian based Edge Detection and Texture Descriptor (GEDTD) for FER. Regarding 8 Gaussian edge descriptors GEDTD is formed. The proposed GEDTD extract both image texture feature and edge direction. Using Local XOR Coding (LXC) scheme the interior and locality pixels of edge response directions are encoded for extraction. Ultimately these features are combined and it forms the feature vector. The expressions of different poses likely disgust, sad, smile and surprise are trained by using Convolution Neural Network (CNN), which differentiates the facial expressions into disgust, sad, smile and surprise. The suggested process increases the recognition accuracy at an important level. The under taken method is an appropriate one for any recognition requirements.

Nowadays, Cloud computing is an emerging internet based computing system, which enables users to remotely store their data in a server and provide services according to their need. Many of the devices which uses cloud computing are mobile these days. Here data security and privacy became the major issues in this contest. A secure data access control mechanism must be provided before cloud users as most of the users have to outsource sensitive data to the cloud for storage. In recent days many of the MNCs and other famous organization uses the cloud services for data sharing, data storage, data manipulation etc. As there are lots of confidential corporate data being shared on cloud servers, it is very important to provide an efficient encryption system to encrypt outsourced data with a fine-grained access control. In the cloud environment encryption can be the best option to secure data out there and such data can be either Private data or Public data. The public data can be shared among trusted clients that provide an open environment to connect with organization or with the data owner. Private data is client's confidential data and it need more security and privacy so the data must be transferred in encrypted form. In this paper we can see the different encryption techniques and its variants which are currently being used also the possible future works which can be improvised to develop a better security and privacy oriented encryption techniques is discussed.
