Improved knowledge of the ocean is fundamental to anticipate environmental disasters and control human activity's impact on climate and biodiversity. The current efforts to digitize the ocean through sensors and monitoring systems allows for the implementation of digital twin technology, as a means to realize a multitude of benefits, such as overfishing reduction and prevention, marine pollution prediction, climate change adaptation and marine spatial planning promotion. Therefore, our research group intended to present a scientific contribute to the development of Ocean digital twins sphere of knowledge. However, as we came to understand, during our state-of-the art review, the application of the digital twin technology for such purposes remains largely unexplored and unrealized, with only one notable european ongoing project. The lack of scientific basis in the domain shifted our focus towards the development of a Digital Ocean ontology, capable of sustaining future advancements in ocean digital twins implementation. In order to derive a Digital Ocean ontology, we employed the OAPiS approach, a data-driven methodology. The application of the method resulted in a terminology catalog with 109 terms, 27 entities and 82 properties from which we derived a Digital Ocean ontology with 16 high level entities, which is presented as this work's contribution.
The diversity of existing representations of the same ontology creates a problem of manipulation of the same knowledge according to any computational domain. Unifying similar ontologies by reducing their degree of het...

As cyber-physical systems become increasingly interconnected and complex, ensuring their cyber security becomes paramount. Composite systems, comprised of multiple interconnected components, present unique challenges for cyber security certification due to their dynamic nature and diverse elements and used technologies. This paper proposes the development of an ontology specifically tailored for the cyber security certification of composite systems. Ontologies provide a structured framework for representing knowledge, allowing for semantic interoperability and in future automated reasoning. This ontology also aims to capture the intricate relationships between components, vulnerabilities, threats, and security controls within composite systems. Multi-layered approach employed, encompassing both technical and organizational aspects of cyber security, comprehensively address certification requirements. Also, we discuss the practical implications of proposed ontology in streamlining certification procedures, enhancing risk management, and promoting trustworthiness in composite systems. Through this work, we strive to contribute to the advancement of cyber security certification practices, EU regulation in the context of evolving composite systems (EU Common Criteria Framework).

In the realm of Digital Twins (DTs), industry experts have emphasised the pivotal concept of the Federation of Twins, envisioning seamless collaboration across sectors driven by shared semantics. In response to this challenge, the Cognitive Digital Twin (CDT) integrates the DT framework with formal semantics, specifically ontologies. This paper introduces a comprehensive five-step methodology for CDT development. Furthermore, it becomes possible to incorporate human expertise into the DT ecosystem by adopting an ontological approach. The CDT enhances DT services with advanced reasoning capabilities, leading to a profound semantic enrichment of the data. The presented methodology has been validated using a use case where the CDT is employed to detect malfunctions, significantly reducing manual intervention. This paper advocates for the adoption of CDTs, which represent a harmonious fusion of formal semantics and human expertise, enhancing system efficiency and operational performance.

Material Information Modelling (MIM) is a cornerstone of Building Performance Simulation (BPS). However, defining and exchanging data between building modelling and simulation tools is cumbersome due to notable deficiencies in the granularity of material information descriptions. The inadequacies in the data models and exchanges lead to faulty interpretations of material properties in building performance assessment. The material science domain strives to advance material research and expedite the market readiness of novel materials through intricate data modelling, performance computations, and interdisciplinary communication channels. In addition to the latter, adopting the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable principles holds significant potential in promoting accurate MIM within Architecture, engineering and Construction. This study introduces an ontology-driven framework leveraging Semantic Web technologies and Linked Data to support MIM in the context of Building Information Modelling and BPS. The framework implementation is demonstrated in a webbased application that enables the dynamic assessment and benchmarking of building materials based on the Guggenheim, Anderson and de Boer model and thermal resistance computations. The development of the framework relies on ontologyengineering principles to represent domain knowledge in a Building Material Performance ontology, as well as Systems engineering coupled with test-driven development for requirement engineering, system design, implementation, and validation. The results include a novel MIM data model enabling material classification and property definitions in alignment with international standards. The implementation validates and assesses the logic of the proposed data model and software application by conducting hygric and thermal performance assessments applied on case studies.
Ontologies are of great importance in organizing and structuring domain knowledge towards interoperability and data integration in various fields, as provide a standarised vocabulary and a formal representation of rel...
