Motivation: The increasing volume and frequency of cyberattacks have made it necessary that all computing professionals be proficient in security principles. Concurrently, modern technology poses greater threats to privacy, making it important that technological solutions be developed to respect end-user privacy preferences and comply with privacy-related laws and regulations. Just as considering security and privacy must be an integral part of developing any technological solution, teaching security and privacy ought to be a required aspect of computer science education. Objective: We set out to demonstrate that a project-based capstone experience provides an effective mechanism for teaching the foundations of security and privacy. Method: We developed ten learning modules designed to introduce and sensitize students to foundational sociotechnical concepts related to the security and privacy aspects of modern technology. We delivered the modules in the treatment sections of a two-term capstone course involving the development of software solutions for external clients. We asked the students in the course to apply the concepts covered in the modules to their projects. Control sections of the course were taught without the modules as usual. We evaluated the effectiveness of the modules by administering pre-treatment and post-treatment assessments of cybersecurity knowledge and collecting written student reflections after the delivery of each module. Results: We found that the students in the treatment condition exhibited statistically significant increases in their knowledge of foundational security and privacy concepts compared to those in the control condition without the modules. Further, student reflections indicate that they appreciated the content of the modules and were readily able to apply the concepts to their projects. Discussion: The modules we developed facilitate embedding the teaching of security and privacy within any project-based learning experience

Emergence of Corona Virus Disease COVID-19, had a major effect on educational institutions. The transition from conventional face-to-face teaching-learning in classroom to complete online teaching-learning mode proved to be most challenging. The pros and cons of complete online teaching-learning from student's perspective were studied through the survey shared with students of second year, third year and final year of ***. course. The results indicated that flexibility, effective time management, enhancement of self-learning capability are major advantages of this approach. At the same time there are few disadvantages of complete online teaching such as lack of in person interaction, difficulty in understanding complex topics, internet connectivity issues to list a few. This paper suggests a model of teaching-learning which is a balance of conventional face-to-face method and online method called as blended learning. The model leverages advantages of both the methods. Indian government has framed a National Education policy (NEP) 2020 which encourages flexibility, multidisciplinary education, emphasis on conceptual learning and extensive usage of technology. The model of blended learning suggested here aims to achieve the goals given by this NEP 2020. The advantages of the suggested model are also discussed. © 2023 IEEE.

AI is an acronym for artificial intelligence, which refers to a computer-generated imitation of human intelligence designed to mimic human behavior. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role in propelling the fourth industrial revolution, hence enhancing the accessibility of education within schools. This study seeks to comprehend the role of AI in teaching and learning and analyze AI technologies. AI enhances practical skills such as writing and provides a reliable simulation conversation platform similar to spoken Language. It optimizes the instructional effectiveness of Language in teaching and learning while enhancing students' proficiency in practical application. The proliferation of technology and platforms has facilitated the process of acquiring proficiency in language learning. The utilization of artificial intelligence technology offers the opportunity to improve language proficiency. The availability of various learning technology may enhance students' ability to absorb the language at a faster pace. Students have the opportunity to utilize a diverse range of ELT applications that are developed using AI technology. The aforementioned technologies encompass Google Translate, Text to Speech (TTS), Orai, Elsa, Chatbot, Duolingo, Neo platforms, and various other examples. These intelligent machines can emulate human intellect and make judgments using a computer and mobile device-compatible technique. © 2024 IEEE.

Knowledge graphs (KGs) are typically used to enhance the performance of recommender systems by leveraging their characteristic to supplement the sparse user-item interaction data in the latter. This is because KGs feature abundant semantic information about entities (e.g. users or items in recommender systems) and inter-entity relationships. Deep learning has been seen gain wide use in boosting the performance of recommender systems. Thanks to focusing merely on nodes in a KG, or entities, such an approach, however, suffers from well capturing the semantics hidden in the node connectivity when learning node embeddings, leading to undesirable discovery of potential semantic associations between nodes. Against this background, we propose for recommender systems a multi-level cross-view contrastive learning mechanism that learns high-quality feature representations from unlabeled data. By incorporating item-item correlations into item embeddings, we developed an inter-item semantic association graph (SAG), which was intended to model more comprehensive and finer-grained inter-item semantic associations. A series of experiments have been carried out and the findings verify that the proposed mechanism outperforms other baseline models on all metrics, confirming the effectiveness of coupling SAGs with contrastive learning in enhancing the performance of recommender systems.

Quantum education has been increasingly emphasized at both the post-secondary and secondary education stages, in line with the advent of the quantum computing paradigm. Traditional quantum computing education, however, necessitates an extensive background in physics, mathematics, and information science, which can be challenging for beginners. This study presents the experience of implementing a college curriculum at National Chi Nan University in Taiwan, designed to enable learners at all levels to grasp the concept of a quantum algorithm using accessible math yet rigorous enough for verification. The study succinctly conveys the concept of the quantum Grover algorithm, provides necessary background knowledge, and elucidates the ideas using three distinct visualization methods. Furthermore, this study offers a novel presentation for aligning the results of geometrical representation with the corresponding quantum circuit layout. The hands-on project demonstration motivates learners to explore solutions using their visualization tool, enhancing their engagement and sense of achievement. Developing these tools deepens learners' understanding and promotes active peer education, thereby improving their participation and retention of quantum knowledge. The visualization tools developed through this process serve as a valuable contribution to quantum education, offering an effective quantum tool and a user-friendly interface for learning, teaching, researching, and providing fresh insights and perspectives. By making quantum computing concepts more understandable through accessible math and visualization, we aim to lower the entry-level barrier to learning quantum computing, encouraging more talents to engage in quantum computing for their research studies.

Mechanics Fundamentals is a crucial cornerstone of engineering disciplines. Amidst the nation's initiative to establish "New engineering", there is a pressing need to cultivate outstanding engineers who are aligned with the educational requirements for top-tier talents in new engineering and who can address the significant strategic demands of the country. This paper adopts the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) engineering education model as its central tenet and explores innovative teaching methodologies for the experimental course in mechanics fundamentals. The focus is on three key areas: the teaching model, content and methods, and the practical teaching system. Active reforms and explorations are conducted in these areas. The results indicate that the implementation of CDIO-based educational reforms has fostered students' self-directed learning capabilities and teamwork skills, enhanced their engineering consciousness and competencies, and yielded commendable pedagogical outcomes.

In order to analyze the students' MOOC learning situation and feed back the learning results in a timely manner, this paper uses MOOC data mining in teaching practice to establish a learning and teaching management model to evaluate and predict the students' learning quality. In this scheme, feature engineering method is applied to mine the characteristics of MOOC learners' behavior, and an improved global optimal guidance support vector machine(SVM) is proposed. With the learning behavior log of learners in multiple MOOCs as the data source, the improved method is adopted to extract and process the data to acquire the relevant characteristics of learners, which is used to provide effective methods and references for prediction analysis research in MOOC environment. The case analysis results show that it can provide the best technical solution for online learning effect prediction in combination with the relevant needs of MOOC education indicator evaluation. © 2024 The Authors.

To fulfill the growing demand for the future workforce in quantum, we need to come up with workforce development programs at the undergraduate level. This paper reflects on discussions with industry professionals and academics that have indicated the need for a future quantum workforce, including all levels of post-secondary education, and it presents an exploration of an experiential learning pedagogy aimed at teaching quantum concepts to undergraduate students. The challenge is the intricate and often abstract domain of quantum mechanics. Due to their complexity, quantum concepts pose a unique challenge in educational settings, making hands-on demonstration and accessible understanding a formidable task. We review the pedagogical approach of project-based learning in The Quantum Game Club at Purdue, a student-led organization that is a community from diverse academic backgrounds, such as Computer Science, Physics, and engineering, who work on fun and creative quantum computing projects. The club aims to introduce students to quantum and provide the necessary resources to work on projects by utilizing curated assignments that help students understand basic information about quantum circuits and algorithms. After the introductory learning phase, the students are assigned to different teams working on projects related to their interests. Club students successfully completed projects resulting in publications and web apps and went on to win quantum hackathons. To further enhance the learning experience, the VIP (Vertically Integrated Projects) team QuantAlgo was established to provide students with a more immersive industrial experience by facilitating collaboration with companies on more research-heavy projects.

This paper presents the development of Laboratory-Based teaching and learning activities of communication systems to promote functional skills in the 21(st) century. The research process consists of 1) exploring the needs needed to develop teaching and learning in the 21(st) century;2) developing the SLDEA Laboratory-Based learning model consisting of 5 steps: Searching, learning, Exchanging, Doing, and Assessment;3) creating the instructional package to be as a research tool including a teacher's manual, a simulator, an experimental set of antennas, experimental set of the radio transmission system, a learning achievement test;and 4) implementing the research tools to be used with a sample group of 20 undergraduate students in the semester 2/2023 in the Bachelor of Science in Technical Education, Department of teacher training in electrical engineering at the King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand. The findings showed that 1) the quality of the research tools developed by five experts was at a high level of appropriation;2) the learners' learning achievement had an average of 73.54% and 3) the learners' satisfaction level with Laboratory-Based teaching and learning activities of Basic Communication Systems was at a high level. Therefore, it can be concluded that the learning activities developed can encourage learners to have practical skills in the 21st century and have experiences in self-learning and lifelong learning. This skill can lead to the creation of innovations and technologies that can support the industrial sector in the 4.0 era.

Deep learning (DL) is assisting academicians and medical professionals in uncovering latent opportunities in data and enhancing the healthcare industry. The edge computing applications like smart healthcare systems where accurate decision-making is required for fast medical treatment. DL in healthcare allows clinicians to correctly analyze any ailment and treat it, resulting in improved medical decisions. We present a unique DL model for the autonomous healthcare edge computing application in this paper. Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) is an essential requirement of healthcare edge computing where the patient's medical data is used for fast and accurate disease prediction. Propose the DL-based CAD model for automatic disease classification from the input medical images. The model consists of pre-processing, DL-based feature engineering, and classification. Input medical image is first pre-processed for quality improvement and then automatic features are extracted using the pre-trained DL models (ResNet50 and Densenet201). The pre-trained models are improved by performing the feature scaling followed by a separate classification phase. The proposed CAD model is experimentally evaluated using the medical images dataset. The results reveal the efficiency of the proposed model compared to underlying solutions.
