The escalation in capabilities of Large Language Models has triggered urgent discussions about their implications for tertiary education, particularly regarding how they might facilitate academic misconduct in graded engineering coursework. However, graduate research education - where a student works closely with a supervisor over years to develop both implicit and explicit research skills - has received comparatively less attention in this discussion. This paper seeks to develop this discourse by presenting targeted case studies that explore the opportunities and threats posed by artificial intelligence to engineering doctoral education. For instance, using a specimen exercise from a PhD-level research skills module, we demonstrate how artificial intelligence tools can now deeply penetrate research workflows in technical computing and scripting. We likewise investigate the capabilities of chatbot tools to assist engineering PhD candidates with the broader research skills central to their training and development. These include writing and proofreading theses and research papers, producing data visualizations, simulating peer review processes, and preparing scientific diagrams. By evaluating the capabilities and limitations of extant artificial intelligence in these areas, we can discuss both the potential benefits and ethical concerns of doctoral students engaging with such assistance.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a blended ecological learning system designed for the Logistics Information Technology (LIT) course under the Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) framework. The study compared the blended learning ecosystem with traditional multimedia teaching methods in terms of learning outcomes, emotional experiences, and achievement of educational goals. The results showed that (1) students in the blended learning ecosystem outperformed those in the traditional multimedia teaching group in learning outcomes. Analysis revealed no significant differences between groups before the experiment but significant advantages for the experimental group after the experiment. A positive correlation was observed between knowledge transmission, internalization, and application, indicating a virtuous cycle facilitated by the blended ecosystem's design. (2) Students in the blended learning ecosystem also reported more positive emotional experiences, especially in dimensions such as collaborative learning, knowledge construction, and autonomous learning. These findings suggested that the blended ecosystem's focus on systematic teaching environments and interactive processes contributed to a harmonious and enjoyable learning atmosphere. (3) The blended learning ecosystem led to higher achievement of educational goals, including knowledge, skills, and competencies, compared to traditional multimedia teaching. This was achieved through a restructured educational model that fostered rich interactions among students and between students and instructors, supported by multiple learning tasks and platforms. These results indicated that the blended ecological learning system effectively enhances students' learning experiences and outcomes, promotes positive emotional engagement, and achieves higher levels of educational goal attainment.

When students fail to grasp fundamental concepts to database designs, they will likely fail the course. The student's failure can possibly be attributed to the adoption of inappropriate teaching elements by teaching instructors during teaching and learning. teaching elements consists of teaching approaches, methods, strategies and techniques that are interconnected. Relevant sequence in teaching elements helps teaching instructors to build an effective and engaging learning environment that responds to their students' learning process. This paper aims to elucidate distinctions among teaching elements and highlight the challenges faced by teaching instructors and students and review teaching elements that have been adopted by researchers for database courses. This paper concludes with the introduction of DBTutor to solve the challenges faced by teaching instructors and students during teaching and learning of database courses. DBTutor offers step-by-step guide in learning ERD topic in database course. It supports constructivist approach and problem-based solving strategy. DBTutor caters for multiple levels of users, by allowing teaching instructors to set questions of different difficulty levels. Students can either experience guided learning to ERD topic or attempt questions related to ERD topic by difficulty levels. Feedback is provided when the students have attempted the questions so that they can learn from their mistakes and improve their understanding of ERD topic in database course.
