Game-based learning (GBL) provides an engaging way to introduce those with limited programming experience to fundamental programming concepts, Program Wars uses a GBL approach to teach fundamental programming concepts using cards that represent instructions, loops, variables and methods to create a programming language-independent program. This paper introduces Program Wars v.2.0, which improves the prior implementation in several ways. These changes include the approach to teaching methods, introducing players to the concepts of searching and sorting algorithms, and revisions to the gameplay and UI to improve engagement. A user study of Program Wars v.2.0 was conducted and shows that ProgramWars v.2.0 is more effective than ProgramWars v.1.0 in teaching the concepts of variables, loops and methods. Specifically, 60% of participants showed knowledge improvements of variables, 56% showed knowledge improvements for loops, and 44% showed knowledge improvements for methods. Qualitative results show that Program Wars's game-based approach results in an engaging experience for learners.

Undergraduate engineering programs are typically considered some of the most challenging as their curricula require students to have an aptitude for math, science, and engineering. The resources (time, effort, funds) required to finish an engineering degree is substantial. Therefore, it is imperative that the engineering students are supported with well-informed academic guidance as early in their education as possible so that these resources can be used most effectively. Analytical and data-driven methods such as machine learning techniques can be used to inform this guidance process by predicting student success based on features such as individual traits and academic performance. In that direction, we investigated the effectiveness of using machine learning in predicting engineering student success based on academic performance in core math, physics, and engineering courses in three undergraduate engineering programs. The data categories selected for training and testing of the machine learning models in this study are common to most engineering programs nationwide and can be customized in a straightforward manner for other engineering disciplines. The methodology and results outlined in this preliminary study shows promise for predicting degree and cumulative GPA in our three engineering programs.

Collaborative learning has been recognized as an effective approach for providing learners with deeper insights and motivating them to learn. However, in order to maximize its benefits, active and cooperative teams are necessary. This paper presents a collaborative English learning system with role reversal, where the learner collaborates with two agents as co-learners. The proposed system allows learners to take on different roles for learning English grammar structure, as they alternate between being the teacher and the learner according to their learning stage. A preliminary experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the system, and the results suggest that our approach offers a motivating and engaging learning experience for learners.

Nowadays, modern industries and smart technologies are focused on the application of intelligent technology. However, most employees still lack high ability in embedded systems. To solve this problem, the engineering education system must upskill and adapt the basic skills of embedded technology as much as possible. This research aims to apply the S-PPED-C learning model to develop embedded teaching innovations. The S-PPED-C learning model based on blended learning management was designed with 6 steps: surveying, preparing, practicing, evaluating, discussing, and concluding. The innovative learning package created includes a teacher' manual, learning activity plan, laboratory-based learning media for embedded systems, and achievement tests. The research tool was implemented with a sample of 16 undergraduate students in the Department of Information and Communication engineering, the Faculty of engineering and Industrial Technology at Phetchaburi Rajabhat University, Thailand. The results of the research found that;1) the developed S-PPED-C learning model was effective with the E1/E2 efficiency value of 83.13/83.33 according to the standard criteria of 80/80, 2) the evaluated results of the learning achievement of the students were 81.26% according to the standard criteria, and 3) the comparison of learning achievement of student after studying was significantly higher than before studying at the.05 level. It can be seen that the developed S-PPED-C learning model can promote learners with learning skills in the 21st century and is consistent with professional standards in the Industry 4.0 era.

This paper presents the first algorithm for model-based offline quantum reinforcement learning and demonstrates its functionality on the cart-pole benchmark. The model and the policy to be optimized are each implemented as variational quantum circuits. The model is trained by gradient descent to fit a pre-recorded data set. The policy is optimized with a gradient-free optimization scheme using the return estimate given by the model as the fitness function. This model-based approach allows, in principle, full realization on a quantum computer during the optimization phase and gives hope that a quantum advantage can be achieved as soon as sufficiently powerful quantum computers are available.
