Deep learning (DL) is assisting academicians and medical professionals in uncovering latent opportunities in data and enhancing the healthcare industry. The edge computing applications like smart healthcare systems where accurate decision-making is required for fast medical treatment. DL in healthcare allows clinicians to correctly analyze any ailment and treat it, resulting in improved medical decisions. We present a unique DL model for the autonomous healthcare edge computing application in this paper. Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) is an essential requirement of healthcare edge computing where the patient's medical data is used for fast and accurate disease prediction. Propose the DL-based CAD model for automatic disease classification from the input medical images. The model consists of pre-processing, DL-based feature engineering, and classification. Input medical image is first pre-processed for quality improvement and then automatic features are extracted using the pre-trained DL models (ResNet50 and Densenet201). The pre-trained models are improved by performing the feature scaling followed by a separate classification phase. The proposed CAD model is experimentally evaluated using the medical images dataset. The results reveal the efficiency of the proposed model compared to underlying solutions.

The curriculum of Architecture, engineering, Construction, and Facility Management industries (AECO) is characterized by a variety of different subjects and thus teaching approaches, such as lectures, tutorials, project-based learning or inverted classroom. Especially for the postprocessing of teaching content, it is necessary that students have a comprehensive platform at their disposal. Here, it is not only important that documents are stored, but also that interaction can take place and that possibilities for the integration of gamification approaches are given. These requirements can be met by using the Metaverse in teaching. This paper presents the structures and requirements for a cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning in the Metaverse. For this purpose, the components of the Metaverse were initially made available as supplementary forms of teaching within the framework of the modules "Building Information Modeling", "Digital Design and Construction", and Computer Aided Facility Management" by using workshops and tutorials. The modules in the area of AECO are particularly suitable for evaluation, as they strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation. The impact of these additional forms of instruction was evaluated using a qualitative survey to assess the impact on learning outcomes. In addition, the students were asked to summarize their experiences in short papers describing advantages, limitations, necessary prerequisites, and possible course content. These qualitative and quantitative surveys and teaching evaluations are used as a basis for the development of a Metaverse-based teaching concept, that is described in the paper. The results show that the learning outcomes of the students increased by using the Metaverse as an additional learning tool. Especially complex issues can be better understood by the students, furthermore the independence of time and place is described as an advantage. On the other hand, the students state, that they are afraid

As the engineering landscape advances, becoming increasingly intricate and interwoven with diverse disciplines, individuals from varied backgrounds find themselves navigating territories that may be partially familiar or entirely novel to them. Addressing this dynamic, adaptive learning and teaching emerge as effective tools to cater to unique learning preferences and the varying foundational knowledge of each student, ensuring tailored educational trajectories. Individualized progression is essential, when handling complex engineering problems that rely on layered and sequential understanding. Adaptive teaching and learning approach are still rarely utilized in most educational settings. To date, the integration of adaptive systems in higher education has not been exploited to its full potential. A particularly intriguing research area is the deployment of adaptability within mixed-reality environments. The convergence of adaptive learning with immersive technologies holds great potential for delivering experiential hands-on learning. Furthermore, data-centric design enables educators to gain insight into each student's performance. An analytical perspective can reshape teaching strategies and curricular adjustments in engineering education for the foreseeable future. This paper provides an overview on fundamental principles of adaptive learning and teaching. A mixed reality approach is introduced, which employs a comprehensive progression model for virtual learning environments. The model provides a structure to examine various stages of incorporating adaptive learning and teaching techniques. At each phase of the model distinct opportunities and challenges are identified. The proposed framework may act as a guiding structure for the design, development and deployment of adaptive learning environments. In presenting this research, the focus is put on fostering the discourse, collaborations, and innovations in adaptive learning applications within higher education
