Flipped learning revolutionizes the classroom by priming learners with course content before in-person sessions, enabling valuable class time for active learning. While a decade of research uncovers domain-specific outcomes, we share our ongoing experience implementing the Flipped Classroom model across nine engineering and ICT courses at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Our paper outlines the design process, reflecting on its execution. Courses were infused with Flipped Classroom and Active learning pedagogies for one semester. The practical nature of engineering courses facilitated in-class engagement but posed challenges for pre-class involvement. Nevertheless, the approach garnered enthusiasm from both students and educators, fostering advocacy and sharing of its benefits. Future steps involve gathering student feedback and lessons learned to refine subsequent iterations.

By far, the most effective knowledge assessment in college education is to give students exam and grade their answers then assess their level of understanding. However, exam grading can be time-consuming, tedious, cumbersome, and sometimes the grading results are not consistent with the rubric. Here, we propose an AI based exam grader that can not only ease educators' burden but also produce accurate, consistent, and precise grading results. We have used GPT-3.5, GPT-4.0, and Gemini-pro, respectively, as our grading engine. To verify the correctness, precision, and accuracy of our proposed grader, the results were compared with the instructor's grading result and also with human grader such as teaching assistants. In our experiment, GPT-4.0 showed the most reliable and consistent results.

The engineering department of the Hochschule Bonn Rhein Sieg (University of Applied Sciences) wished to significantly increase the number of English-language courses offered for incoming students, since this would be the basis for participating in international student exchange and build up partnerships with universities abroad. But for lecturers it is a high effort besides their daily work, to shift the scripts and presentation to English;using the correct technical terms. Hence, skilled student assistants were recruited to translate the learning material for more than 20 courses with the help of the artificial intelligence-based translation tool "deep L", to support the lecturers. The aim was to either switch a full course into English or to offer a mixed language teaching course, where international students have access to the complete material in English and join in exercises in English, while the lecture itself will be held in German. Besides enabling international exchange, switching the language to English in a greater number of modules shall help to promote technical language competencies of the German students. The resulting teaching materials already have been used in international cooperations.
