In the study of engineering, experimentation plays a great role in understanding the concepts. teaching in engineering is always challenging as theoretical study should be augmented with experiments so that students get a feel of the real life applications of the concepts they study. Automation and control laboratory is an area where students can not verify the ladder diagrams;they develop for various applications, unless they have a Programmable Logic Controller, PLC in the lab. But the new concept of virtual lab has enabled us to teach the concepts of ladder diagrams and development of control systems using PLC very easily. Students could develop ladder diagrams and design digital control systems using the simulation environment given in the virtual lab platform and implement the logics developed by them. Study carried out at institute and the exit surveys shows that the students are more convinced about the results, as they could test them on a platform.

Only the foolhardy would question the importance and status that quality assurance holds in the current political climate that prevails for higher education. This paper critiques the culture of higher education quality assurance and accreditation that has emerged over the last twenty years. An underlying trend that influences quality systems for higher education is the focus on process and service. This results in quality systems that focus on documenting educational processes, and which often assume that students are a type of customer, and education a type of service. This paper argues that this educational epistemology oversimplifies the nature and role of higher education. We argue that a more holistic quality evaluation model is needed, including often overlooked aspects of quality such as curriculum, pedagogical aspects of instructional design combined with industrial and educational quality assurance processes that can better meet the needs of practitioners and institutions.

With mobile application development becoming one of the most sought-after choices by computer science students, developers and companies, an instructor teaching a course on the same to a batch of beginners should ensure that the best possible teaching-learning methodologies are adopted to generate interest among students in the classroom. The author used a blended approach consisting of traditional, e-learning and m-learning strategies. These in turn, consisted of various teaching and evaluation methods. Through this paper, the author discusses the impact of the methods adopted as part of the experiment, on the interest of the students and their respective performance. The sample consisted of 22 postgraduate computer science students. Their responses to the instruments administered, their scores and their LMS access logs were analyzed. The author was able to achieve statistically significant results with respect to the students' interest and their performance, for mainly two strategies - integration of LMS, and teaching the topics by developing an application in multiple phases throughout the duration of the course. It was found that with regards to project work, continuous interaction with the instructor was a desired and accepted approach by the students. The study also revealed the misconceptions that an instructor may have when teaching a programming language or when using mobile devices for teaching. The results of this study may be used by instructors teaching any programming language in higher education.

Not only is understanding object-oriented programming fundamental for software engineering and computer science students, but it is also important for non-major programming courses. Combined with the burden of navigating a new programming language, students can struggle to understand the abstract concepts that underpin the paradigm. Existing learning solutions typically concentrate on a particular programming language. This paper proposes The Realization Framework for teaching abstract programming concepts without code. It employs analogies and visualization to translate the abstract concepts into forms students can understand. Theories on education and student interaction are incorporated to guide the learning process. INTERACTIVEOOP, a practical implementation of this framework, was evaluated by novice programmers in a non-major CS2 programming course. Students responded positively to the tool, noting that the interactive, visual presentation of abstract concepts helped them deepen their understanding.

teaching programming is much more like teaching a craft skill than it is a purely theoretical subject. Hence an "apprenticeship" model, where apprentices learn by watching the master do, and then do themselves, and are criticised in their doing, is, we claim, more appropriate than the "lecturer/lecturee" model that universities implicitly adopt. Furthermore, there are generally many more apprentices than the master can personally supervise. Universities will therefore use various tutors, who should be regarded as the analogue of the guild-master's journeymen. However, how does one encourage this mindset in students who, for their other courses, are indeed lecturees? What are the implications for the journeymen?

Instructional scaffolding or simply known as scaffolding in education is defined as a guidance or support from teachers, instructors or other knowledgeable persons that facilitate students to achieve their goals in learning. Conceptually, scaffolding means providing students with instructions during the early stage of learning before slowly shifting the responsibility to them as they develop their own understanding and skills. As technology extends learning from classroom to learning communities, same goes to the concept of scaffolding. The scaffolding is no longer implemented via face-to-face instruction that literally exists between a teacher and students in a classroom. Currently, the form of instructions that emerges between teachers and students is mediated through technology and the learning communities exist in the online settings. Thus, it is important to acknowledge the suitable form of support required for the students, especially in an online learning environment. The aim of this meta-analysis is to investigate the types of scaffolding that could be implemented in an online learning environment together with its potential in validating students' success in an online learning setting.

Ethical understanding and binding of members play an important role in the establishment of a fair and happy society. Whereas the ethical responsibility is more important for all technical professionals it becomes crucial for computer graduates. Because other technical professional interact more with the human and their activities are more visible to the society. Whereas computer graduates mostly interact with machines and many of the activities may not be visible easily or timely to other members of the society. Therefore, sound understanding and binding of the ethical values are essential for the computer graduates. The work is looking into the importance of ethical values inculcation in computer graduates, the state of ethical education in the computer curricula in the conventional learning systems and in the e-learning environments, and the agents which play a role in the ethical development of students. The work would also provide suggestions on how to inculcate ethical values in computer graduates based on the data and information collected from the students, teachers, academic experts and relevant members of the society.
