this study delves into activity theory as a lens for explaining the goal of international students' adapting to and coping in their new educational environment using nostalgia and social media as tools. This study offers both scholarly and policy implications for the adaptation and coping of international students in New Zealand by presenting their ecosystem as an Activity System that relays their interaction with the tools, community, rules in their new environment.

In this paper, we discussed an approach towards integrating both the contents and cognitive level information extracted from LOs of a course into the domain ontology. We call this as LO annotated ontology (LAO). This can form a first step towards building an automated system to measure the alignment of assessment instrument (AI) to course LOs. The effectiveness of this approach can be tested by comparing the manually generated results by the experienced teachers to the system generated results.

Phenomenography is a well-known empirical research approach that is often used to investigate students' ways of learning programming. Phenomenographic pedagogy is an instructional approach to plan learning and teaching activities. This theoretical paper gives an overview of prior research in phenomenographic studies of programming and shows how the results from these research studies can be applied to course design. Pedagogic principles grounded in the phenomenographic perspective on teaching and learning are then presented that consider how to tie students' experiences to the course goals ( relevance structure) and how to apply variation theory to focus on the desired critical aspects of learning. Building on this, an introductory object-oriented programming course is described as an example of research-based course design. The insights gained from the experience of running the course are shared with the community of computer science educators, as also the benefits and responsibilities for those who wish to adopt the phenomenographic perspective on learning to plan their teaching. The development of an increased awareness of the variation in students' ways of experiencing programming and the need to broaden the context of the programming course are discussed.

We have conducted a survey of computing education at Japanese universities in 2016. Purpose of the survey is to understand current status of college level computing education in order to develop reasonable computing curriculum standard considering international recognition. The questions were about program organization, enrolled students, teaching staff, computing environment, and other topics relating to organizing and operating computing education. For the purpose, we investigated computing education at 7 universities and 5 academic communities in USA, Australia and EU counties in this paper. We also compare the survey result and discuss the reason of the difference.

learning and academic achievement are attributable to the complex cognitive phenomenon of self-regulation. There was a need to study self-regulation, a popular research area in education, on engineering students learning Statics. However, there was no specific instrument to measure self-regulation in fundamental engineering courses like Statics. Therefore, a modified self-regulated learning (SRL) instrument was used in the study that was carried out at four higher institutions in Malaysia, with a total of over 600 student participants. The Motivated Strategies for learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) was modified for Statics and using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), nine new factors and respective items for self-regulation were confirmed.
