In today's world, many products are designed and produced to assist people in their daily activities. These products such as teaching aids and simple machineries are continuously designed and produced to accommodate the needs of consumers worldwide. However, due to the rapid development of the technology, the green aspects of the products are being neglected. Therefore, Malaysia Qualification Agency in their Qualification Framework has given great emphasis to the importance of demonstrating an understanding of the impact of engineering practices, taking into account the need for sustainable development in the Program learning outcome (PLO). The aim of this study is to look into the initiative towards the protection of the environment through the engineering products that have been designed and produced by students of Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA Balik Pulau, Pulau Pinang (KKTMBP). The research will be carried out by observing the engineering products produced by the students and the assessment will be done by the course coordinator according to the criteria given in order to substantiate the research. Through this research, the existence of initiatives among the students to apply sustainable environment values in designing their engineering products are evident.

Globalization and innovation in technology have led to the extensive use of the latest technology in almost every sector, and education is no exception. Different technologies have been employed in various disciplines within the educational sector. Studies have shown that technology can enhance teaching and learning experiences. Augmented Reality (AR) is a new technology with vast potentials and great pedagogical value that offers new methods for education. AR enables the overlaying of computer-generated virtual information into the real environment in real time. Thus, researchers believed that the AR has provided new opportunities for designing engaging learning environments. Although the AR may improve educational outcomes, the main factor is to understand the process of designing the AR to support learning activities. Thus, various instructional strategies such as collaborative learning, were considered when designing an AR learning environment. Collaborative learning permits students to engage with other students and the educational content at the same time, resulting in a deeper understanding and higher motivation. Because educational research concerning collaborative AR is still in its infancy, this paper intends to review the literatures concerning collaborative AR, its previous usages and its potential in educational context.

While industries had acknowledged that most of the engineering graduates are very much competent technically, they also highlighted the lack of people/soft skills in these graduates. With the introduction of Outcome-Based Education ( OBE) approach, local institutions of higher learning are working towards addressing these issues by integrating the soft skills as part of the learning outcomes of an engineering program. CDIO, Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate, is an educational framework for engineering education which aims to produce graduates who will be able to integrate technical knowledge, professional skills and work experience expected of them by the industries. The CDIO syllabus and standards provide the "what" and "how" for reformulating engineering program to prepare students for the needs of industry. This paper presents the systems approach of planning and implementing the CDIO based curriculum that addresses the critical components of the "hard" as well as soft skills together with the roles of instructors in engineering programs. It highlights the structured approach of designing the curriculum which is based on best practices. The paper also presents the issues and challenges of implementing this framework in an engineering program especially in meeting the OBE and accreditation requirements.

Literature reports that educational programs tend to favor knowledge conformation rather than knowledge construction;however, Computer Supported Collaborative learning (CSCL) is a powerful pedagogical strategy that encourages students to focus more on their knowledge construction. In this paper, we will discuss on the purpose of this study which is to investigate the potential impact of the characteristics from the CSCL learning approach used in the Collaborative Portfolio Assessment System (CPA) prototype system to assist students' knowledge construction during the process of teaching and learning. The CPA prototype system is an educational learning system develops to help the teachers and students in managing School Based Assessment (SBA) in selected secondary school in Malaysia. This proposed research study will be carried out in four weeks and will involve 30 form one students that enrolled in History class using this CPA prototype system during their learning process. This study incorporated the pre experimental one group pre-test post-test design and the instruments used are questionnaire and performance test. We hope that the finding of this study can assist the teacher about the advantages of CSCL approach for students' knowledge construction as an improvement in teaching methods for teachers and also improve students' learning especially in SBA environment at schools.

The use of case-based instruction in professional fields, such as law has been around since the late 1800s;however, the use of cases in engineering has only been around since the 1950s with their earliest implementation in Civil and Chemical engineering. Research on the implementation of case studies in engineering has mainly focused on student perception at the end of a course. There is limited research on students' perceptions of case studies as compared to traditional lecture approach. This paper presents results from a study that examined this relationship between students' perceptions and actual learning performance for lecture and case-based instruction. Specifically, we addressed the following research question: To what extent do students differ in their perceptions of their learning confidence and engagement connections across lecture and case-based instruction? We found that overall students found cases to be more engaging as compared to traditional lecture;however, in one case students found lecture to increase their learning more than cases.

Given their complexity operating systems have been a teaching challenge in terms of both course design and course delivery. Being complex software artifacts, they challenge the student by bringing together a number of concepts and algorithms from different aspects of the body of knowledge in Computer Science. This inherent "nonlinearity" (of the way in which the concepts come together) is in stark contrast to the linear and time bound structure of any course delivery. Finally, significant student preparation is required to even reasonably grasp the intricacies of engineering design that an operating system involves. We address this age-old problem in a novel way. We develop an incremental approach to building operating systems for pedagogic purposes. At each stage we introduce reasonably achievable design challenges. Instead of attempting to coerce linearity to present an essentially nonlinear subject matter, we start from a simple, but nonlinear, model of an operating system and gradually expand the nonlinearity. In this paper, we present the basis of our design and report our experience with its first delivery.

Computer science terminology is generally based on words that have a related original meaning in English and rooted in western tradition. Hence, students from other cultures and students that are not native English speakers, will not be helped by language and culture in understanding computer science concepts. In this work, the authors review the interrelationship between language, cultural background, and the learning of computer science. A comparative study is under preparation in which this relationship is to be examined. The study will compare the intuitive understanding of computer science concepts between Saudi student groups of different English language proficiency levels and of different maturity levels. A test has been designed in order to reveal differences in the perception of computer science concepts that can be attributed to such background differences. The study will serve as a starting point for further work on how computer science education can be enhanced for students that are non-native English speakers.

Computer Based Instruction is no longer uncommon in the education arena in Malaysia. This instructional approach has been applied in the process of teaching and learning for many subjects, but little was applied to sports subject. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a multimedia sports courseware in teaching movement skills, which will be developed based on the Simpson's Psychomotor Domain Taxonomy. Integrated with a video analysis technology and simulation, the courseware would be developed for all sport subjects in the sports science syllabus. This paper highlights the analysis phase of the study, which investigated students' problems in learning movement skills. In particular, the problems were divided into four types of construct (teaching strategy, learning materials, individual differences, external and internal factors). This paper also seeks to identify the dominant construct that might optimize the learning outcomes. Overall, 83 undergraduate students majoring in sports science in one Malaysian university were involved. The instruments used were questionnaire supported by some interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using the SPSS 16 while qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis. The results from this initial study will be used to develop the courseware and facilitate the discussion on how it will be adopted in the process of preparing materials for the learning of movement skills. Additionally, this courseware could also promote students to a more advanced learning process that can trigger positive effects in their movement skills learning. In fact, it may also discover a young sports talent.
