The tropical cyclone center location is a very important aspect in weather forecast and typhoon analysis, which is also a difficult issue when done manually. Satellite digital photograph makes it possible to carry out such task by aid of modern digital and computer means of processing. Based on image process technology, it is possible to apply new method according to the feature of digital imaging which was useless in human based center location method. In order to improve the objectivity and precision of the location, a novel intelligent automatic system framework will be proposed, to locate the tropical cyclone center intelligently and automatically, based on the satellite photograph. After pre-processing, several center location technologies will be put forward, based on tropical cyclone's structure, the combining movement of whirl and translation. According to the tropical cyclone's symmetry shape and its spiral movement feature, logarithmic helix is used to fit the edge or skeleton of the cyclone feature cloud, which can be used to estimate the center of the cyclone. According to its movement feature, a rotation matching methodology will be proposed to catch the track through imaging sequence. As an example, the computing methodology produced in this paper was applied in experimental cyclone forecasting by the Shanghai Meteorology Center. The proposed solutions was confirmed to have the potential for successful application to the problem of tropical cyclone center tracking, and the system is effective and the performance errors are acceptable for practical applications.

This paper is mainly to study a covering model of granular computing in a set-theoretic setting. The model is based on the assumption that a finite set of universe is granulated through a family of overlapping granules based on a reflexive relation. Two operations, called zooming-in and zooming-out operations, are used to study connections between the elements of a universe and the elements of a granulated universe, as well as connections between computations in the two universes.

A program's behavior is always tightly related with the computing environment where it runs, especially for parallel programs running in grid. Debugging tries to locate the reason for incorrect program behavior by analyzing the states, which happen during a program's execution. In order to allow cyclic debugging, re-execution mechanisms are used most frequently. The dynamic characteristics of grid will hinder re-execution to work, because the behavior of a program will be various according to the current configuration of execution environment. By modeling grid environments with graphics, this paper proposes the metric to evaluate the similarity between grid applications execution environments. The GA based resource selection algorithm is presented to construct similar execution environments in grids. A serial of experiments shows that the similarity metrics is appropriate.

This paper presents a new distributed training algorithm for neural networks based on multi-agents, which is created to solve the bottleneck of memory in current prediction of protein secondary structure program, and a chip training algorithm is proposed to work in the distributed environment to evolve the global optimum by competition from a group of neural network agents that have different sample chips for processing. The experimental results demonstrate that this method can effectively improve the convergent speed, has good expansibility, and can be applied to the prediction of protein secondary structure of middle and large size of amino-acid sequence.

In this paper, we propose an improved ant algorithm for job scheduling in grid computing. The new algorithm is based on the general ant adaptive scheduling heuristics and an added in load balancing guide component. The load balancing factor, related to the job finishing rate, is introduced to change the pheromone. That makes the job finishing rate at different resource being similar and the ability of the systematic load balancing improved. It has been successfully tested in a simulation grid environment. The experiments show that the new ant heuristic method can lead to significant performance in various applications.

This paper presents a new large margin learning approach, namely structured large margin machine (SLMM), which incorporates both merits of "structured" learning models and advantages of large margin learning schemes. The promising features of this model, such as enhanced generalization ability, scalability, extensibility, and noise tolerance, are demonstrated theoretically and empirically. SLMM is of theoretical importance because it is a generalization of learning models like SVM, MPM, LDA, and M4 etc. Moreover, it provides a novel insight into the study of learning methods and forms a foundation for conceiving other "structured" classifiers.

Distributed data mining (DDM) is widely used in industrial, scientific and commercial applications to analyze large data sets maintained over geographically distributed sites, which makes DDM a major research issue on today's data mining system. As a latest member in distributed computing technology family, the grid computing can play an increasingly important role with the progress of the DDM technology in recent years. This paper analyzed the drawback of existing DDM systems and put forward a service-oriented architecture of DDM on the grid. The mining algorithm and distributed data sets in the proposed framework are abstracted as Web service resource (WS-resource), which can cooperate to perform DDM as required dynamically. Finally, a grid based on local area network was built with Globus Toolkit 4.0Beta and the algorithm of WS-resource, dataset WS-resource for data mining on the grid are developed.

In order to improve the performance of Chinese text categorization, a new Chinese text categorization method based on angle distribution is presented. The new method describes the text with a more precise model and proposed a new categorization algorithm by employing angle distribution. Simulation results on open Chinese text collection show that the precision and recall of most classes have been increased with reference to the classical method, and the macro average of precision and recall are both about 72 percents, which certificating the effectiveness and feasibility of the angle distribution-based algorithm.
