Genetic algorithm and evolutionary programming are two generally used evolutionary algorithms. Due to the difference of their origin, there are a lot of differences between their biologic bases, algorithm operation and some other operational details. So, the performances of the two algorithms are different. These differences are analyzed comprehensively by theory and revealed by simulation experiments. The results show that the performance of evolutionary programming is better than that of genetic algorithm and the evolutionary programming is more suitable for practical applications.

This work proposes a hybrid parallel quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (PQEA) based on cost minimization technique for edge detection. Quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (QEA) is based on the concepts and principles of quantum computing such as qubits and superposition of states. By adopting qubit chromosome as a representation, QEA can represent a linear superposition of solutions due to its probabilistic representation. QEA is more suitable for parallel structure than the conventional evolutionary algorithms because of rapid convergence and good global search capability. We combine PQEA and the local search technique to solve the problem of edge detection. Experimental results show that the algorithm perform very well in terms of the quality of the final edge image, rate of convergence and robustness to noise.

Security has become an important issue for mobile ad hoc networks especially for the more security-sensitive applications used in military and critical networks. As a positive protection, intrusion detection system has been successfully applied in wired networks. However, these correlative researches are not fit for mobile ad hoc networks. This paper puts forward a novel architecture based on mobile agent platform for superior intrusion detection in mobile ad hoc networks. Furthermore, an IDS agent selection algorithm and its security communication mechanism are proposed.

FFC (fast flowtime-computing) is presented for flowtime computing in flow shops. Generally, FFC is faster than the classical flowtime computing procedure in which all jobs should be calculated. Because computing flowtimes of schedules/partial schedules is the Main computational burden of most algorithms for flow shops, the CPU-time of an algorithm can be reduced considerably by replacing flowtime-computing with FFC. FFC is utilized to modify FL, WY and RZ, three best existing constructive heuristics for permutation flow shops with flowtime minimization. Analysis results reveal that CPU-times of the three modified heuristics can be saved by about 33.3%, 50% and 50% of those of FL, WY and RZ respectively, which is valuable for practical flow shops with large sizes.

Based on the concepts of operation template and virtual job shop, this paper attempts to solve several job shop scheduling problems with different scale and analyzes the relationship among the population size, mutation probability, the number of evolving generations and the complexity of the undertaking problem visually by using the trend chart of the fitness curves. This visual analysis could provide some referencing information for the adjustment of genetic algorithm running parameters.

In mobile database system, normally duplicate and synchronous replicate are adopted to improving the processing efficiency. The past researches seldom touched the relation between the time of duplicate update and mobile application semantics nor how to resent the semantics of the week consistence of duplicate. In order to demonstrate the application semantics, and further reduce the communication flux, and realize that user can define the condition of disconnect-connect by himself and thus solve the problem of mobile data replication synchronization and update under this mechanism. Experimental data shows that this mechanism can improve the efficiency of client processing distributed transaction operation.

With the development of Internet, the environment of distributed systems is very different from that of traditional ones. Due to the diversity and heterogeneity in terms of the types of client devices and network connections that people use to access the systems as well the special needs and preferences that end users might have, system adaptability, interoperability, reusability and reliability, etc., are very complex and difficult to solve. Agent and agent-based computing provide the natural and valid means for building complex distributed applications and are becoming a powerful paradigm for designing and developing complex software systems. We address some of fundamental challenges in supporting large-scale distributed system: adaptability, interoperability, reusability and reliability, and a multi-agent framework is proposed for constructing those systems.

Grid computing is a kind of distributed computing paradigm, with its goal to share the resources (CPU, memory, etc.,) among virtual organizations. In the latest researches, open grid services architecture (OGSA) develops and deploys the grid service in a fixed node, and the requester calls the grid service by use of RPC. The drawbacks of this static approach are obvious, such as continuous connection, waste of bandwidth, less intelligence and overloaded with services invocation. Aiming at the drawbacks of such a static model, a mobile agent-based grid mobile service is presented and researched in our lab. The general objective of this paper is to show a bottom implementation of mobile agent-based of code-uploading in the computation grid by use of the cross-platform feature of Java program. Meanwhile, the details of design and implementation are presented. The execution results show the feasibility of our new thoughts about the mobile agent-based grid mobile service.

Speculative computation is a process which uses default hypothesis as tentative answer and continues computation when resource information cannot be obtained in time. In computing process, if the response is not consistent with belief, then master agent will revise its belief. The more information gotten, the more accurate the result of speculative computation is, and the smaller the risk of decision is, so the negotiation is a key mean in reducing risks of decision. In this paper, framework extended of speculative computation is presented, and the further negotiation framework and negotiation algorithm with belief revision are presented, the algorithm is embedded in speculative computation. Finally three experiments on goods transportation are given. The experiments have proved the algorithm can improve the accuracy of result of speculative computation, and reduce the risk of the result.

Resource dissemination and discovery is an important content in resource managements of computational grid. A prototype of dynamically disseminating and discovering resource information is designed and implemented in this paper. It provides a competitive mechanism that can dynamically discover and periodically disseminate resource information. As a result, it eliminates the inflexibility of resource discovery. The experiment shows that it greatly improves performance of service and utilization of resources in computational grid.
