This paper introduces a distributed conference key distribution system that utilizes secure multi-party computation scheme by virtue of Feldman's (t+1, n) VSS to perform the conference key computation, so that a key can be obtained in a distributed fashion in which any t+1 of servers are required to perform the computation. The n segments - which are spread across n machines - do not have to be recombined on a single machine to perform a key computation. Since t/spl Lt/n, the requirement that only t segments are needed inherently provides system reliability. The evaluation shows that the system performance is not impacted by changing t or n. This means that it is possible to set t arbitrarily high, making key compromise less probable, and to set n high, providing redundancy, without taking a performance hit for a single signature.

Continuous Q-learning algorithm has been widely used in robotic domains for its simplicity and well-developed theory. In this paper mobile robot navigation using neural Q-learning is processed. Firstly, according to our developed mobile robot CASIA-I and its working environment, an approach is proposed, used to determine the reward/penalty function of Q-learning. Secondly, after analysis of the continuous Q-learning algorithm based on the multi-layer feedforward neural network, a method for computing the weights of the hidden and output layers is given, and mobile robot navigation using neural Q-learning is implemented. At last, experimental results are included to show that the action policy obtained through Q-learning can make the mobile robot reach the destination without obstacle collision.

Denial of service (DoS) problem is one of serious attacks in the Internet. The attackers attempt to exhaust the resource of the service provider in order to prevent legitimate users from using the system. Most of the detecting DoS tools, such as rule-based and threshold detection approaches, rely on the objective opinion of the domain experts. This work aims to apply machine learning techniques, such as radial-basis function neural network (RBFNN) and support vector machines (SVM), to solve the DoS problem and compare which technique, is better to detect DoS. The main advantage of this detection method is that it has the ability to detect or predict new attacks when some patterns are similar to the attack patterns learnt in the past. Thus it can detect novel attacks for which signatures have not been defined.

From the view of cognitive computational neuroscience, a direct representing method based on neural dynamics and graph theory is presented. Firstly, an assembly of neuron as well as its dynamics is defined. They directly represent the perceptual information of stimulus. Then a two layer neural network is designed to retain the features of that stimulus and generate the very neural circuit responding to it. This is achieved by the structure-learning algorithm. The circuit can also serve as an associative base whose credibility is decided by its connectivity. The direct representing method is of great significance in the research of semantic representation and semantic-driven inference in artificial intelligence as well as in artificial neural network researches. The exhibition of major physiological features of neural information processing distinguishes this model from the traditional ones.

With the tremendous increase in connectivity and accessibility to the Internet, information security has become a serious global issue. Denial of service (DoS), one of the attacks evolved in recent years, has devastating effect to the commercial activities. We propose a hybrid intrusion detection system (HIDS) which incorporates the benefits of both rule-based and SVM techniques. In brief, the SVM is used to select important features and generate rules, while the rule-based system is then applied to detect the DoS attacks. The rule set generated by the HIDS is more accurate and compact. Experimental results show that the HIDS has a better performance than the rule-based system with rules extracted only from human experts.

An approach of rough set-based case-based reasoning (CBR) approach is proposed to tackle the task of text categorization (TC). The initial work of integrating both feature and document reduction/selection in TC using rough sets and CBR properties is presented. Rough set theory is incorporated to reduce the number of feature terms through generating reducts. On the other hand, two concepts of case coverage and case reachability in CBR are used in selecting the representative documents. The main contribution of this paper is that both the number of features and the documents are reduced with minimal loss of useful information. Some experiments are conducted on the text datasets of Reuters21578. The experimental results show that, although the number of feature terms and documents are reduced greatly, the problem-solving quality in terms of classification accuracy is still preserved.

The distributed storage agents aim at the scalability, availability and adaptability. In the hierarchy agents environment data block is guaranteed to access in high speed and dependably by SDA (storage device agent) and IOA (I/O agent) in the bottom layer, and data structure of efficiency and compatibility is implemented by FSA (file system agent) in the middle layer. The RPA (resource management & process schedule agent) and UIA (user interactive agent) correspond with other agents through performative to enhance the distributed storage in the upper layer. The agents are used to provide a scalable, available and adaptable abstraction of the system architecture. Each agent is able to cooperate with other agents and thereby provide service advertisement and discovery for the scheduling of applications. The architecture of agents and their performative of distributed storage are put forward in the paper.

In this paper, a data hiding technique by variable depth LSB substitution is proposed. Firstly, pixels of cover-image are grouped according to themselves luminance values. Then the occurrence of pixel-values in each group is counted and sorted in monotone increasing. Finally, a bitplane-wise data hiding method is used to hide data in cover image. The worst-square-error between the stego-image and the cover-image is formulated. Theory analysis indicates that image quality of the stego-image hidden by this method can improve from 0 db to 4 db against simple LSB (least significant bit) substitution method. Experimental results show that the stego-image is visually indistinguishable from the original cover-image.

This paper introduces a method of generating fuzzy classification rules from training samples. This method can decide the numbers of rules, position and shape of membership function. First, the fuzzy rule base with ellipsoidal regions is introduced. Then, the dynamic clustering arithmetic, which can dynamically separate the training samples into different clusters, is introduced. For each cluster, a fuzzy rule around a cluster center is defined. The initial tuning of rules is used by the strategy of inserting rules and aggregating rules, then the rules are tuned by genetic algorithms. This method is evaluated by two typical data sets. The accuracy of classifier by this method is comparable to the maximum accuracy of the multilayered neural network classifier, and the training time is much shorter.

Due to the shortages of static grid service in grid computing, a new paradigm of grid service (for brief, GS) - grid mobile service (GMS) is proposed and deeply studied in our lab. GMS provides a series of standard interfaces and conforms to OGSA's conventions to provide the intelligent mobile code service. Based on intelligent mobile software agent and grid technologies, GMS is the extension of grid service' type. Mobile agents wander in grid to discover, call and interact with all kinds of grid services automatically, accomplishing assigned task and providing certain services for users. GMS moves "computation" to "data", and its introduction can greatly increase grid service flexibility and validity, offering more selections and technological support to such applications as data-intensive computation, mobile computing and e-commerce etc. The purpose of this paper is to present mobile grid service's formal definition and description. The agent's lifetime and state evolvement in GMS are also discussed. Moreover, GMS hierarchy structure and communication process with GS or between GMS are presented.
