The artificial immune system (AIS) is a newly emerged biological computing technology that draws inspiration from vertebrate immune systems. From the computation point of view, AIS is powerful at learning and recognition; hence, a novel paradigm for machinelearning and pattern recognition forms. Engineering creative design can be viewed as constraint satisfaction problems, which is NP-hard in essence, thereby it is generally hard for classical methods to solve. Since AIS has great potentials in solving hard and complex problems, it motivates the authors to explore the field of creative mechanism pattern synthesis, one of the most challenging fields in engineering creative design, with AIS. Specially, an engineering framework of AIS based pattern classification and matching is proposed, and the preliminary experiment results show the validity of the proposed method.

In this paper, a new equation of saturation In RGB-to-HSI conversion is proposed on the basis of HSI color space, aimed to provide more rapidity of computing in real-time control systems due to fewer operations needed. The theoretical validity of new conversion equation is studied and testified. Besides its significant advantages over traditional equation on temporal performance, better mapping performances is mathematically explained as a minor advantage. It is shown in illustrative experiments that average 30% time was saved in computing when using new saturation conversion equation instead of traditional one.

Presents a niching negative selective genetic algorithm for self-nonself discrimination in a computer. From the view point of biological immune principles, the advantages and existing problems of the negative selection algorithm as a distributed anomaly detection approach are introduced. The problem of compounding negative selection with a genetic algorithm is discussed. Experiments report that the algorithm proposed shows diversity, less time of generating detectors and efficiency.

The paper proposes a granular logic which defines the syntax and semantics of the logic. The formula in the logic is a granule or any Boolean combination of the granules. We discuss a reasoning based on the granular computing. The reasoning is used in expert systems, and is also an extension of matching reasoning in production rules. The inclusion and closeness degree between granules are defined in the paper. Finding the match among granules satisfying the given closeness degree completes the approximate reasoning. The paper defines the granular operation based on both logic and the set theory. Finally, the matching reasoning and deductive inference is illustrated with real examples.

Based on clonal selection theory, the main mechanisms of a clone in the immune system, which are explored in the field of artificial intelligence, are analyzed. An artificial immune system algorithm, antibody clone algorithm, is put forward. Compared with an improved gene algorithm, the new algorithm is shown to be an evolutionary strategy capable of solving complex machinelearning tasks, like multi-modal optimization. Owing to the computational complexity requirement, pruning a fully connected recurrent neural network (RNN) would be ineffective for large size RNN. In this paper several non-heuristic pruning algorithms for fully connected RNN are investigated, some of them are extended from extended Kalman filter based approaches and some of them are based on weight magnitude, together with some techniques on the pruning procedures. Automated acquisition of rules is a very important issue in knowledge engineering. In this paper, a new method for generating fuzzy rules from numerical data for fuzzy classification problems based on the correlation analysis between two fuzzy sets has been proposed. Experimental results and comparison with Yuan and Shaw's method are presented as well.
