The train tickets system of railway includes rich data, but how to mine useful information from them is a problem that yearns for being settled. In this paper we apply the technique of classification in data mining to the train tickets system. We use the method of decision tree induction to analyze several attributes of train tickets and reduce some significant conclusions. It realizes the combination between the technique of classification and practical database. On the one hand, this research founds application background for classification. On the other hand, it applies the new technology of data mining to the train tickets analysis and provides abundant decision information for the organization and management of train tickets. It exploits the new field of data mining.

It has been several years since the research of vector topographical map, and there have been some progresses in this field. However, most of the researches focus on the identification of contour lines; ignoring another important element of the map - the spot elevation. As a kind of element of map, the spot elevation is rather like a single point. It should be of significance to the comprehension of map, combining with the contour lines. By analyzing the features of annotation of the contour and elevation point, the paper gives a method of identifying the elevation annotation of a scanned topographical map and discusses the principle of the method, including separating character series on the basis of morphological translating and splitting of the individual character based on the vertical projection. Finally, the performance evaluation is presented.

Fuzzy decision tree (FDT) induction is an extraction technique of fuzzy rules, which has been widely used in handling ambiguous classification problems related to human's thought and sense. The entire process of building FDT is based on a specified parameter (called significant level) which seriously affects the computation of fuzzy entropy and classification result of FDT. Since the value of this parameter is usually given in terms of human experience while building a FDT, it is very difficult to determine its optimal value. This paper attempts to give some guidelines of how to automatically choose the optimal value of this parameter by analyzing the analytic expression between this parameter and fuzzy entropy and further by investigating the decision trees sensitivity to the parameter perturbation.

A brief introduction to a social cognition study and perspectives of its application to engineering problems are given. Since many complicated combinatorial optimization problems still lack effective solution methods, a general comprehension of a combinatorial optimization problem and a mathematical model for it are mainly discussed. Through imitating some phenomena of the organization and evolution of human society, a social cognition model is proposed. This model has superior applicability to most kinds of combinatorial optimization problems. It has been shown that this model has higher computation efficiency and higher convergence stability than traditional genetic algorithms through a power distribution network planning example.

This article presents pulse monitoring and analysis approaches on traditional Chinese pulse diagnosis (TCPD) by means of modern nonlinear signal processing technology. Pulse monitoring is significant for the research on cardiovascular and nervous system. But some interference, such as respiration, motion artifacts can be greatly brought into the long-term pulse acquisition. Thus, a cascaded adaptive wavelet filter is designed to solve this issue. Then analysis of long-term pulse waveform in TCPD is illustrated after being preprocessed. What's more, the chaos character of healthy heart rate variability (HRV) is validated.

With the increasing worldwide availability of the Internet and the web content being accessible internationally and mobility, the e-learning industry faced a tremendous development from off-tine to on-line In recent years and the model Is expanded to support in-learning for thin-clients devices. However, QJK data handling in knowledge management is still a critical issue for m-learning development because most thin-client technology is developed in Western countries that support only alphabet-based languages, while the number of QJK users Increases greatly. In this paper, a novel technique is presented to enhance the interaction and communication between the teachers and students in the m-learning platform by using multi-agent. The Student Agents are responsible to organize and analyze the learning activities, then carry these QJK knowledge flows and report to the Instructor Agents. By using these globalized user client agents to monitor the study progress of the students in the multi-agent platform, it not only allows instructors to identify the actual need for each student beside of the student's direct request, but also help the. developer to delivery international m-learning application. Therefore, the me-learning environment becomes truly dynamic and globalized.

Palm print is a new biometric method to recognize a person. Features in a palm print include principal lines, wrinkles and ridges, etc. The fact that the principal lines, wrinkles and ridges have different resolutions motivates us to analyze the palm print using a multiresolution analysis method. A novel palm print feature, named wavelet energy features (WEF), is defined employing wavelet which is a powerful tool of multiresolution analysis. In this paper. WEF can reflect the wavelet energy distribution of the principal lines, wrinkles and ridges in several directions at different wavelet decomposition levels (scales), so its ability to discriminate palms is very strong. To compute with ease is another virtue of WEF. The very high recognition rates obtained in experiments shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

To use the vast amount of information efficiently and effectively from Web sites is very important for making informed decisions. There are, however, still many problems that need to be overcome in the information gathering research arena to enable the delivery of relevant information required by users. In this paper, an information gathering system is develop by means of multiple agents to solve those problems. We employed some ideas of Gaia's methodology and an open agent architecture to analyze and design the system. The system consists of a query preprocessing agent, information retrieval agent, information filtering agent, and information management agent. The filtering agent is trained with categorized documents and can provide users with the necessary information. The experimental results show that all agents in the system can work cooperatively to retrieve relevant information from the World Wide Web environment.

Crisp decision trees are based on the precondition that linguistic terms and classes are crisp whereas fuzzy decision trees, which are an extension of the crisp case, are based on fuzzy valued attributes and classes. Fuzzy decision tree is popular in dealing with the ambiguity and vagueness associated with human thinking. The generalization capability of decision tree, which is also called the predictive capability, is one of the most important indexes to judge whether a decision tree generation algorithm is good. The stronger the generalization is, the higher the prediction accuracy. In practical applications, the generalization capability of a decision tree algorithm directly affects the accuracy of decision-making. However, so far nobody has given a comparison study between the generalization capabilities of fuzzy and crisp decision tree algorithms. This paper attempts to compare the generalization capability of fuzzy and crisp decision trees in three aspects. It aims to provide some useful guidelines for selecting either a crisp or a fuzzy algorithm while decision tree induction is applicable to real problems.

Quantifying semantic similarity of Chinese words from HowNet

Semantic similarity is a fundamental concept and widely researched and used in the fields of natural language processing. However, methodologies for measuring semantic similarity are language-dependent. The paper presents a system similarity based measure of semantic similarity for Chinese words from HowNet, an online bilingual (Chinese-English) common sense ontology. The measure is determined in three steps: first, a sememe network is built from concept feature files of HowNet for preparation; then semantic similarity degrees between sememes are given by quantifying their semantic paths in the sememe network, and a sememe weighting method is also provided; finally, a system similarity based semantic similarity degree between Chinese words is presented to combine these elements into a single measure. The experimental results have been adopted by a Chinese query matching system whose precision and flexibility are enhanced thereby.
