Any computing system operates in and provides support for a particular environment. The importance of conducting an appropriate analysis of that environment or context is frequently stressed. Despite this, it is often overlooked in the development of many computing systems. Agile approaches to software development recognise this weakness, emphasising the need for closer customer collaboration. Essentially, a customer representative is responsible for providing the required knowledge of the environment. Nevertheless, problems remain with many difficulties reported for the customer role. The recent version of eXtreme Programming (XP), the most popular agile approach, acknowledges this with new practices recommending consideration of the broader context, taking account of the big picture. Despite this, little advice is given on how this might be implemented. This paper examines how this might be achieved by streamlining Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), a well-established analysis technique, and linking it with XP. The first part of this paper describes the linked approach. This is then followed by a report on an investigation of the approach that has been assessed through experimental group projects with undergraduate computing students. The results highlight some of the strengths and weaknesses of the linkage, indicating directions for future research.

In mobile edge computing (MEC), mobile users can offload tasks to edge nodes to alleviate local computational loads, leveraging the computing capabilities of edge nodes. However, users' high mobility and temporal variability pose challenges in dynamically allocating mobile users to optimize perceived Quality of Service (QoS). To address this challenge, this paper proposes an adaptive ant colony algorithm for user allocation decisions. This method constructs hidden mobility fitness relationships between users and servers based on user movement trajectories. It utilizes an improved adaptive ant colony algorithm to adjust fitness values automatically and optimize user allocation. The goal is to maximize overall user satisfaction under resource constraints while minimizing user allocation costs. Experimental analysis demonstrates that the proposed method achieves higher user allocation rates and effectively utilizes available resources on edge servers.

OBJECTIVE - to assess the extent and types of techniques used to manage quality within softwareengineering data sets. We consider this a particularly interesting question in the context of initiatives to promote sharing and secondary analysis of data sets. METHOD - we perform a systematic review of available empirical softwareengineering studies. RESULTS - only 23 out of the many hundreds of studies assessed, explicitly considered data quality. CONCLUSIONS - first, the community needs to consider the quality and appropriateness of the data set being utilised;not all data sets are equal. Second, we need more research into means of identifying, and ideally repairing, noisy cases. Third, it should become routine to use sensitivity analysis to assess conclusion stability with respect to the assumptions that must be made concerning noise levels. Copyright 2008 ACM.
In this paper, we settle the low-light image enhancement problem by developing a collaborative learning framework, which not only improves lightness and suppresses noises simultaneously but also with fast speed and re...

Auracle is a networked sound instrument controlled by the voice. Users jam together over the Internet using only a microphone. Throughout the development process, the authors experimented with different approaches to interpreting vocal input and facilitating user interaction. This paper outlines some of the tools used to implement and evaluate those ideas, simulate the wide range of activities of Auracle users, and facilitate the development process.

Cloud computing provides a great opportunity for scientists, as it enables large-scale experiments that cannot are too long to run on local desktop machines. Cloud-based computations can be highly parallel, long running and data-intensive, which is desirable for many kinds of scientific experiments. However, to unlock this power, we need a user-friendly interface and an easy-to-use methodology for conducting these experiments. For this reason, we introduce here a formal model of a cloud-based platform and the corresponding open-source implementation. The proposed solution allows to conduct experiments without having a deep technical understanding of cloud-computing, HPC, fault tolerance, or data management in order to leverage the benefits of cloud computing. In the current version, we have focused on biophysics and structural chemistry experiments, based on the analysis of big data from synchrotrons and atomic force microscopy. The domain experts noted the time savings for computing and data management, as well as user-friendly interface.
